Rate The Last TV Show You Saw (Spoiler Tags for Recent US Shows!)
jayseven replied to Slaggis's topic in General Chit Chat
Which two seasons did you watch? I would say that the show really did get better as it went on, and the series finale still has to be in my top 3 show endings.- 3920 replies

Chair; my post was mostly aimed at paj. I never meant that everyone goes through the same precise, more that we're a cocophany of songs already sung, albeit blendered and poured into different vases/cups/shoes. I think (hope) he'll get more from my post than you. Unlike most of the forum, I do see you two as very distinct individuals. I do agree that it, at least, seems that most people and their common sense are able to plod through the field of poppied ambition as if they're just acting out a preset path, but it's clear that none of us actually give a shit about these people, nor do we consider them much more than proles. As for politics, your new aesthetic - politics, in my opinion, is too eager to please everyone, and lacks the brute honesty that is actually needed for successful relationships. Quit associating the common with my terms. You're better than that! Bookmark this thread and read it again in 5 years time and lol at the apt, cry at the propos, shiver at the flux, etc. As for the general rank etc; I was refering to the existence of other people before you turned up, and egotistical (sic) notions that largely relate to the me that has grown and existed in the 7+ years I've bared my soul on this forum, and its previous incarnations. If you wish to grade me based upon the me you know, then it's like listening to Tori Amos's latest album and comparing her in her entirity against bjork's discography. It wouldn't work. While some wines mature with age, most whines become more covert and indirect. But I am stunned by the IT'S CHARCOAL megaton, and other such Old Skool memes. I like this thread.

Sorry but this whole "I only feel comfortable around certain people" this is nothing new and very widespread and typical. We are all diamonds! We have facets that we only unveil to certain people, and very few have tasted the whole gem. Even the people whom you feel know you best only see (a majority) part of who you are, with your defensive side mostly locked away. THAT'S LIFE. Again, chair and paj, you both strike me as observant yet young individuals. Personally I grow tired of my own self-pity, of my own ill-worth, because I've realised that I am, and have been, illusioned by my own age. What I think/thought and how I feel/felt are partly to do with how old I am/was, and the general coming-to-terms-with-being-alive-for-a-longer-time thing. Paj; your current struggle of identity is to be expected at your moment in life. You have friends who have moved on, who appear to be doing fantastically with their lives, yet in comparison you've not released the ballasts yourself yet, and you worry if you'll be capable of similar feats. While we have to remember the complexities of separate egos, we can never succeed un fully understanding how someone else feels and as such we can feel alienated in our own position. While it can be true, because, simply, nobody else could possibly be (or have) felt exactly how you feel -- but your position is not entirely novel. It comprises a smorgasboard of emotions/feelings/thoughts/'beings' that others have encountered, and in that you should find solace. You are not facing an existential crisis in its entirity. You are not alone in the world faced with walking and talking meat-sacks who occupy your day-to-day traipsing through time. You are feeling *shock* teenage angst :P While the words to describe are immeasurable in comparison to how it feels, they are still vaguely true. People mature at different paces, and you can often feel left behind/isolated ahead of the crowd. The problem with being too closely knit with art in all its mediums (literatrue? intentional? Hilarious if not.) is that you get carried away on the wave of romance, sentiment and fate. Art too often forces the notion that a single moment is an intense, orgasmic eruption of not only information, but meaningful information. Reality dictates that each moment carries the same weight as any other (to the universe), but the power comes from individual interpretation. While art struggles to imitate life in that measure, real life does not have an artist, does not have an intended meaning that you can weigh your own analysis against, and it is this, I think, that is crucial to accept. You talk of feeling 'wrong', of a growing urge to 'change'. These justify what I've said. Discovering a new thing that still draws the cooing from you is what life is really about - discovery, invention, creativity, but all against the canvas of understanding, co-relationships, etc. The key here is to know where to stand when judging your current self. Don't judge your current position as a life quarter/fifth done. Consider that you've only been properly conscious/aware/alive/you since the start of your teens. Consider how rapidly you changed between 10 and whateverageyouarenow. Consider just how old people can be. Consider how much culture and society have evolved in under two decades. Fuck it - consider how far cinema/music/etc have moved on! Where will they/you be in a decade? We don't listen to our elders enough. We get bored of them talking because they know... they remember when they were our age, and they recognise in us how they responded when an elder tried to tell a story. While we can feel utterly alone/isolated/etc, the most exciting way of coping is to sit back, go with the flow, and see what happens. P.S. I don't like this lieutenant business. By sheer dedication I was promoted to a general years ago and now I sit in my country estate, sipping whiskey, smoking cigars and twirling my moustaches, retired and proud of my uniform that is more medals-of-honour than fabric. If I make no sense then fuck off. I make no apologies for my empathy. EDIT: the whole 'I don't have a best friend'... well again I think it's largely the media that tells us people like Joey and Chandler actually exist. Because they don't. Even fully grown adults will have different 'best' friends every 6 months.

If you didn't enjoy your youth then no biggie. Enjoy your adulthood! You get more freedom, you have more money, you can ride on all the rollercoasters, have sex, drink, all without that sense of idiotic 'innocence' - the blinkered belief in the tooth fairy, in your parents being perfect, and so on. Change is the hardest thing to accept, even though you are constantly changing day by day without really noticing it. Comparing yourself to wherever you were, whoever you were last year/5 years ago/10 years ago only leaves you looking at the greener patches of grass rather than the truth. You're still young, too! You're not a decrepid old dragon scowling at them young'uns who whizz past you or anything. Being a responsible adult is actually quite a forgiving process, if my route to being a Grown Up is anything to go by. You can and will make mistakes, just as everyone who has ever told you how you should live your life have done themselves. They are giving you 'advice' based on their own mistakes, and while they say what they say because they care, they can still make mistakes in their wise old age. As for other people 'doing more' and 'being better' and whatever - you are famous for downrating yourself, for comparing any of your strengths exclusively only to people who are stronger than you. You don't need hundreds of friends. If you want more then there are people out there - social clubs are an excellent way to find some. Plus the interactive universe suggests that, actually, you have dozens of friends on here. I wouldn't say I have a 'best friend' -- someone who loves to do everything I love to do and vice-versa. But I have others who share the odd common interest, and in general friendship is like any relationship - compromise needs to be made, and general awareness of other thinking feeling minds than yours is a must. Ashley's right in that - you should finish your course then simply come live in england, start from scratch, build your own castle of dreams, accept your own power to mould your life, etc etc. Long post, missed a few points. The people who are grown ups firsts are the ones who miss out on youth. Don't knock yourself, kid.

Eenuh; the joy of age is in looking back at the past and seeing a better version of yourself. The trick of youth is to see yourself as a better version of you than any that will occur in the future! While you may think you are sagging and falling apart now, when it truly starts to happen (in 20 years time, at least) you will remember when you were the age you are now and be all remeniscing and shit. While we weren't as broken yesterday, we were a lot more stupid. Being in a state of ill-repair now is compensated by our experience and our wisdom. I remember an age when I felt cool, sexy, fit, popular, loved, etc... these days I struggle to be any one of the above at any one time, but I pull myself through it by believing, sincerely, that I am better than I was before. So instead of focusing on the days I've wasted, I try to hone in on the days I have yet to encounter. The possibilities and potential that they offer means I can still be an even better person yet. C_B; you are youth personified. While your musings are... Amusing, they culminate in little more than sporadia, and go against what eenuh is inquiring about. While I do generally encourage living in the moment, I decree that a certain amount of wit be sprinked on such thoughts; the understanding that what seems cool now will cease to entertain tomorrow will help filter the useful from the useless. But then again, I advise you enjoy it while you still can. My general random musings of the night; Too many people assume that a dystipian existence is akin to that of a 1984 style oppressiveness, while in actual fact our current social inadequacies are much more aligned to that of Brave New World, where we are controlled by the perpeptual offerings of 'luxuries', of 'entertainment' and pleasure. While I can't say that I am immune to such lifestyles, I still am certain that I am at least more aware of how my life is being controlled, and I am very sure that questioning is better than accepting, no matter how simple the answer may be. Gotbored, drew a picture.

Got a shock win! Dyson scored an own goal - lawl. Got manager of the round again (wewt) and two dewds in the x11. Crawled up to 3rd spot, but two teams below me have a game in hand and a chance to steal.

Y'know, when I saw this thread originally I knew we'd see a letty post to blow us all away. The thread was made for her and her facebook photo album. No fair :P

Set my suicide tactics for tomorrow. If I wake up in time, and if my internet allows it, I'll probably fuck about with them again. Quite a lot of my team are 100% experienced already, but a couple of midfielders are struggling with 40% so I'll not be fielding a full-strength team all season. Expecting a thrashing.

Everyone essentially is egotistical, self-righteous and pompous. Everyone believes, in their heart of hearts, that they are better than everyone else. You are that boring, rubbish person to other people, too. Your relationships with your favourite people are as strong/good/stunning as they are because of the circumstances that go into them, including the continuous co-existence with other boring people, the distance between your habitats, your frequency of meeting, etc. And stuff.

That spaced clip... Why change the names? Why keep the script exactly the same? Why attempt to replicate the same camera angles then... just fucking ignore it? I'm actually genuinely torn. They could do well with it, with the characters... but they are just dessicating the corpse of a great TV show.

Word on 'the street' is that there's an upcoming episode without any of the main cast. But with lost, of course, that could mean anything. Here's hoping it's a jacob/smokedude story of age, or something.

^yeah, MW2's focus on... well, modern warfare, is excellent, but of course the COD resume reads like a military history text book, and I guess not pursuing those avenues would be foolish. That the kotaku comment suggests the future of the MW/COD brand could be akin to WoW... well that's a frightful and sorry thing to hear. I, for one, avoid MMO's because a) subscription is a cake of lies and aids, and b) I would get addicted too easily. I also 'believe' that such games are a cancer to the industry, avoiding true progress of the medium in favour of Big Bucks. While the levelling up aspect of MW2 is, indeed, a fantastic part of the game as a whole, I don't fancy the idea of them perhaps splitting the current format into two distinct styles of games. As for the whole infinity ward shocks/revelations... well, it's all groovy gossip and all but ultimately doesn't affect me at all. If a new game is made by a new company, and it's shit, then so what! I won't but it. If MW2 is the end of the series, then so what! There'll be other games.

Oh! You still get student accomodation for 3 year courses non-foundation courses are, I'd've thought, the norm, and all unis have student accomodation -- either uni owned or uni regulated. To try and clarify what I was saying; I am doing a 3 year course, in my first year I was in halls, and the first year of my course does not go towards my final overall grade. This is teh status quo for all courses at all universities, as far as I am aware. It would be nice to hear from more london-based students in regards to people-dotted-everywhere, but if your guts/heart/soul is saying 'nooooooooo' (or "...", I guess) then yeah, don't give it another thought. Moving away from home, a massive distance, too, is something greatly life-changing. I didn't really think twice/at all about it, and the homesickness never really hit me - it's more of a sort of white noise that's perpeptually buzzing at my mind's ears... But moving away is totally worth it. London is so busy culturally and always awash with things to occupy your time with, and university life is hectic and social - you won't be a pillar of solitude. I've forgotten where else you've applied for - my faltering memory assumes all scottish places. Well every city will present you with scattered-amigos from 2nd year onwards, and the 'hassle' of getting around to see them is... well, life, really. Best of luck to you with it all, anyway. I personally don't really think interviews/personal statements/portfolio presentations should be anything to worry about. All that matters is your own desire to do it - with kingston you don't have the desire, so don't bother.

TBF I still enjoy the place immensely, I just get far too drunk, fail to go to uni the next day, dance like a twatmonkey on weetabix, fail to notice girls, spill my drink on scary massive people, get psuedo-molested by my (male) companions and, occasionally, fall down some stairs and/or walk into a wall. I was born without class.
