Attach ratios are pretty much useless stats in the end, because a console that sells a lot, automatically has a lower attach ratio, specially if it sells at huge rates. The codename was primarily because of the gameplay style, because that's what it matters for marketing wise, but of course it can be applied to whatever we want, since it was a revolution in so many ways. The Wii's success is its own and has nothing to do with how the next console fares, but what Wii means to Nintendo and the market in the long run, that's another story. Well, a converted customer could still buy another console, so there's no accurate way of measuring that except for an overall increase in game sales equivalent to the newcomers, but that's really hard to measure. I also agree that marketing and public opinion is the main reason behind the success of any console, not just games, however having a shelf full of all kinds of games for all ages and well known names like Mario certainly has an impact on customers. Thinking about it a little more, DS and Wii changed things, for the first time we see games that sell for months and months, even years, we see forumites instantly going "BOMBA" when a game doesn't sell 2 millions in 2 weeks, yet in a few months they sold really well, so maybe games have more impact than before. Case in point being Wii Fit that's still in the tops after months and no doubt shifts consoles . For example, PS2 was a pretty bad console at launch and for quite a while and it sold like hell, to me it only proved its worth late in its life (now it's a fantastic console), yet, it always sold a lot. That was all marketing and brand. In Japan however, the huge amount of RPGs and anime games no doubt turned millions of buyers. That and the fact that lots of people bought multiple ones because they broke down. So it's not very black & white.

And the fact that they can be stored in pocket-size pokeballs and can be taken with you anywhere, doesn't ring a bell when it comes to handheld games? Don't forget that Pokémon was first a game. Well yeah, I just read that as "the buzz has died" :P It's still hugely popular though, at least the games, or else Diamond/Pearl wouldn't be the 3rd best selling generation.

The fact that all recent pokémon games except dash sold millions says no. Seriously how can anyone still say the buzz has died down? Also, yeah Pokémon voices are freaking awesome. I think a main console Pokémon RPG could certainly be done, but it's undeniable that the biggest charm of the games is being portable (at least for most people, also pokémon = pocket monsters :P) and that to make an even decent Pokémon RPG would be a ginourmous effort. One that I wouldn't mind if they made, but not because of story, more because I'd like them to replicate the feeling of being able to adventure throughout the world with your Pokémon in 3D.

Well, it's pretty damn normal that a PS3 RPG sells more than a 360 one :P Only big name PSP games sell though, which is a shame. I don't own a PSP nor am I a huge fan, but from what I see, it's still a good platform that has games that deserved to sell more (although I'm pulling this out of my ass cause I don't know the numbers :P).

Don't agree, DLC also has a hand with that, but at least developers have to work to make those and add something, while achievements don't add a thing and it's pretty obvious that in a lot cases devs just praise the heavens that they can fool people into thinking they've added lots of extras by just adding achievements.

Well the story gets pretty bad later on, but the setting's pretty good. Game's main problem is its pacing, it's a little better on Wii the dialogue is faster, but still... That and they're constantly holding your hand, it's disgusting. Still, great game.

The japanese market is very very weird, but let's face it, Bioshock is totally taylored for western audiences, it's not like quirky jap games sell well here either. Although I don't know how White Knight turned out it seems to be a great game, so great to see it on top, not that it's a big surprise. Good numbers all around.

You're behind times, that's so 2008. Here's to hoping 2009 will be better than 08, although it's hard for it to be worse, stranger things have happened. Happy New Year boys and girls! *passes out*

We've had this discussion loads of times, so I'll shorten it :P I don't care much about them, but they're a pretty cool addition, however they add very little if any replay value to me, because I won't do anything I wouldn't do anyway and stuff like high scores/higher difficulty, etc, I always do regardless of achievements. The downside I can think of is that a lot of devs go for achievments instead of adding actual replay incentives and I hate that. I can certainly see this kind of stuff being in every console in the future. And like JonST lots of people take it to ridiculous extremes, but that's their call :P

So I noticed :P Usually yeah, GTAs and whatnot don't count, you're supposed to be an asshole there. Still, most games if not all do morals wrong and it's like they keep doing them worse all the time, Fable being the main culprit. Why does everything need a slider and a number on it to tell you you're evil or that you're doing evil things?
