New IP's - Nintendo vs. Nintendon't do enough? [Th'rip]
Retro_Link replied to Goron_3's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I don't really see why it matters? Don't need to compare everything to Sony and Microsoft all the time. It's like constant points scoring. And anyway, people are extremely happy with Sony's First Party/Exclusives output, where ever they come from. The discussion is there are a number of Nintendo/used-to-be-Nintendo fans who aren't happy with Nintendo's First Party IP choices and decisions. Likewise there are fans who are very happy with the games we are getting. Are, or are Nintendo not doing enough? What else could they be doing? -

I couldn't really watch all of this one for The Last of Us spoilers, but can't wait to play it when I do! A PS4 version would be godly!! Likewise I need to play Tomb Raider!! Uncharted 3/Uncharted > Uncharted 2 for me though, but enjoyed seeing your choices! Good video's man! -

@Cube thank you for clarifying! I don't know enough about those studio situations. -

maaaaaaybe *tries to distract Serebii*... Looks Serebii, a wild Pokemon appeared!!!! Anyway that's not the point here. The discussion was about the need for Nintendo's own teams to create new IP's... when W101 starting getting mentioned, I clarified that it hadn't come from Nintendo. -

I've merged posts about Nintendo and IP's from the 'You can tell Nintendo what game to make' and the 'Wii U 2014 and beyond thread' into this new thread. Disclaimer: Goron_3 didn't start this thread, his just happened to come first chronologically ;p -

Wonderful 101 isn't a Nintendo game anyway, it's all Platinum Games' work and inventiveness. -

I didn't get any more time on it yesterday, hopefully tomorrow! I'll check my objectives yeah, pretty sure I would have at least been into the Captain's Office, just whether I checked his computer or not I don't know. Probably not because at first I thought hacking police computers might set off an alarm, but I did the ones on the top floor in the end and probably no others. There's a laser grid in one of the airducts, maybe the Captain's is there somewhere. Oh btw, how bloody noisy is the Police call room when you're walking around upper level looking down on it! My ears! Yeah the next side quest is the one where you have to do some undercover work for your female cop friend. -

You can tell Nintendo what game they should make next - What is it?
Retro_Link replied to Charlie's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Maybe we could be Nintendo's Western developer! Certainly getting more excited by ideas in this thread than I have official announcements lately ;p It would be cool if the entire game was set in the underwater world, and then at one point later in the game and only once and for a few seconds your character jumped above the waves and you and your character saw the world you are on for the first time, be it this one or another! Like in The Matrix when they go above the clouds. -

Great ideas. I love the idea of just exploring, learning and living amongst the landscape. There could be discoveries, puzzles and clues to collect and piece together across the islands too, to learn the location of some of the very rare or ancient Pokemon etc... like ruins/hieroglyphs, maybe things you can only see from the air or up high. Secret locations to find. Finding Pokemon like Mew would be a real challenge, with loads of elements to piece together from things you find as you adventure, find in books, and from speaking to inhabitants of the island who think they've seen something. Checking the weather forecast for electrical activity, you could venture out at night to the top of the mountains in the pouring rain, to capture that elusive photo of the legendary Zapdos, the source of the rare lightning storm in the area. -

@Mokong X\-C Yeah it really is incredible how many different scenario's there are for characters! When you talked to the cop on reception, did it end up with you saying about the drugs in the bin, and him saying that he would never forget this (menacing)? ;p Also when I talked to Tindalls round the back of the petrol station it ended with me saying it's his problem and he should sort the bad guys out himself. I felt a bit bad about this because yes he's blackmailing the guy who came to see me about it but they were both involved, one guy was just forgiven but the other has just been left to deal with the consequences. Where is the Captain's office, is it the one on the top 3rd floor on a corner with a security camera outside it and a vent just round the corner in a little alcove? -

Come awwwwn, DK looked better in Jungle Beat than that ;p Oh yeah there can be no denying the fur looks beautiful, I'm just left expecting a little more from the game. Still, it's splitting hairs when the games gonna be so much fun!

Yeah I'm aware of the whole fur thing, Retro have bigged it up since the game was announced, but Nintendo did something similar in Galaxy You can't tell me that's where all the Wii U's extra power is all being diverted to! Fur aside, you can't tell me the games don't look very similar. Believe me I'm not putting the game down, I'm really excited for it!... I just think more could be done with it to really showcase the Wii U. Put the same effort they're putting into the fur into the rest of the game. EDIT: Plus this IS Retro Studio's we're talking about here!! They get the most out of a console don't they?!

You've lost me.

What does *shot* mean?... Why bring the PS4 and Xbone into it? It can just be compared to other next gen Nintendo games... When you compare the visual leap in DKCTF to that of Mario 3D World or Mario Kart Wii, I just don't understand what they're doing with the Wii U capabilities that's all, especially as employees from Retro have said things like 'now with the Wii U we can do all we want to in this game'. And it's not gamepad utilisation either. It's still one of my most highly anticipated games! (if you want to compare it to the PS4 & Xbone, compare it to their games 1yr 4months from now at least)
-
I must admit I'm really confused as to what is 'next-gen' or 'Wii U' about DKCTF... it really does just look like a direct Wii sequel. I'm really looking forward to it because DKCR was amazing and more of the same and no doubt more refined will be great (unless you're Super Mario Galaxy 2)! but that's really all there is to it. Still probably my most anticipated Wii U title, actually that could be Mario Kart!

Let's not forget coming 2014
-
Having not seen the Mario Kart footage for quite some time and watching it now, does anyone else think it looks a little too realistic? The human characters are kind of bothering me, and even some of the others like DK and Yoshi. I think Smash has pretty much nailed the look for Nintendo's characters on Wii U, and DKCTF has the Kongs, I'd prefer to see those being used here, and just a slight visual style change overall. LOL @Ike 2014 The year of the Cranky Kong! ;p
-
Yeah that scene with Gwen is great! Her face Jamie Foxx, and well just Electro as a whole is bothering me. Spidey looks weird at 0:46 like it's just the stuntman in his suit and they haven't edited it?

Yeah I didn't get let in through the door, I walked past them and they shot at me ;p I seem to remember looking around for something for the fire escape but, hmm I'm not sure what went on there now/why I didn't think it was viable. I think I've somewhat screwed my upgrades up. I think I spent two upgrades on hacking, perhaps unnecessarily... if you see a level two door, you have to be at level two hacking etc right and so on (I can't really remember how the hacking trees work now, and there are maybe 4 different ones aren't there). And my remaining two upgrades to max out the speed at which my battery recovers, so that I don't have to wait to sneak up on guys and take them out. Urgh I don't really want to, but I think I might have more fun starting again and reconsidering my options. I might have to set up a few alternate saves for the game as I go as well, as I've just been playing off the one. Save system is a bit annoying, but only I guess because I think of it as a shooter and should be able to go back and play missions, when in fact it's not :p
