  1. Oh please. The topic is about Nintendo being "weird", 1-2 Switch is as weird as it gets. Certainly more so than messing with some NES roms.
  2. Oh and in addition to milking cows, cardboard robot suits to stomp around in and a talking ring accessory you exercise with... So yeah, Nintendo are still plenty original or weird. Let's see what the second half of the Switch lifespan brings next, now that its success is assured.
  3. I know I "know it", I've already suggested that the nature of the console is behind the lower output of craziness, but three titles in 4 years, one of which being a Covid year, doesn't suggest "Nintendo isn't weird anymore". 1-2 Switch by itself is 10x weirder than NES Remix or Nintendo Land.
  4. Bloody hell, I thought those were Oculus Touch controllers at first!
  5. "Nintendo isn't weird anymore" ... I think betwen 1-2 Switch, Labo and Ring Fit there's plenty of weird creativity, especially when you throw in things like Odyssey's possession mechanic or Gooiji . The Wii U had wacky games because it had to justify the gamepad/2 screen gaming, that sort of lends itself to creativity. The same with the Wii. The Switch is a much more basic concept but even so I think we've seen enough to say Nintendo haven't lost their weirdness.
  6. Sony said they would be trying to compete with Game Pass and this looks like a first step
  7. HAHAHAHA Anyway, awesome video @Kav the art-style holds up really well!
  8. I think it's fully deserved, fantastic game. Not quite the disaster that some predicted. The series has always been pretty popular, I think New Leaf sold like 14 million worldwide or something like that.
  9. That's an incredible line-up, wow
  10. New update: There's a bit more at the link too: https://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/2021/free-update-for-animal-crossing-new-horizons-delivers-new-content/
  11. Unlike The Rise of Skywalker which was written in such a way because Lucasfilm bowed to angry youtuber/fanboy mentality and their idiotic complaints about The Last Jedi. "bOmbS dON't dRoP iN sPAce!!!!111", "LuKe is sUPosSed tO be A BaDasS, tHiS FilM sUckS!!!!!111". I can't speak to Justice League too much but I think this takes away from the original a fair bit, it muddies the water and divides the fandom. But hey, an opportunity to make more money so the execs won't care. As for Mass Effect, that does seem like one of the highest profile cases that started it all, but I actually respect Bioware a fair bit for sticking to their original ending and only expanding it for the most part, rather than completely re-writing it.
  12. I was looking through reviews and this quote stuck out: it feels like in the majority of cases that's a recipe for disaster.
  13. Every Nintendo console has sold fewer units than its predecessor, with the exception of the Wii and Switch, so I don't think that's likely, especially if adjusted for inflation.
  14. Was never meant to be an exact comparison given the different price points of the two machines. Just thought it was a pretty interesting stat.
  15. Switch after 4 years outsells (dollar wise) DS after seven years in the US, a console that sold 150 million lifetime. WTF.
  16. Only skimmed these videos, but it looks predictably amazing from what I've seen... There's also some footage from the Mario Kart ride doing the rounds on YouTube too
  17. That's quite a flex from Microsoft. Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Doom... those are some of the biggest franchises in gaming to a lot of people. Mind-blowing get to an already mind-blowing service
  18. I totally agree about that terrible channel and how it proves HOT’s point, but Sterling seems to be pretty popular on here.
  19. We're halfway through, they literally said as much two months ago. Do you think Furukawa is sat there thinking to himself "well the PS4 Pro came out three years after the PS4, so now's the time to release an updated Switch", instead of looking at what the present day and actual Switch sales trajectories tells him? It would be on schedule you're right, if they were basing their business decisions on history, which they shouldn't/aren't. Why would you base your prediction on history when Nintendo themselves said 12 months ago that the Switch Will Have A Longer Life Cycle Than Previous Consoles, Says Nintendo President.
  20. Why? The Switch hasn’t even had a price drop. It’s selling huge numbers. They haven’t needed to release a Pro model.
  21. Even though looking to the past doesn't tell you what will happen now, even if you do want to do that it's worth comparing the Switch lifecycle to handhelds anyway because they're the products that Nintendo release iterative updates on (GB Color, DSi, all the 3DS versions), as opposed to consoles which have always been one and done boxes, for the most part.
  22. Yes don't you just hate it when YouTube creators look like morons on their thumbnail...
  23. You also said that my suggestion the PS5 would be about £400 was comically absurd, suggesting 600-700 instead. Or recently stating that Nintendo was shifting all its software focus to mobile, which obviously isn't the case in reality. Sometimes you need to look at what makes business sense. The Nintendo of nowadays, the one that kept the 3DS alive for nine years because of the high (ish) instal-base, isn't about to cut and run what could be one of the most successful gaming products in history. Another thing that points to the Switch being around for a while, why would they release Splatoon 3 next year, and then release a brand new console 12 months later? Like I said, I could see their next shiny idea coming in 2024, and the Switch continuing to get support for a couple years after that (like the 3DS), but not before that imo.
  24. You're genuinely using the Wii U and Gamecube as examples of what will happen with the Switch? Two of the companies biggest failures? Why no mention how the Game Boy lasted twelve years before the GBA was introduced. Or the DS lasting 6 and a half years. Or the 3DS lasting 6 years before the Switch came out, and nine years before it was let go. And before you say those are all handhelds, it makes no difference, they're all highly successful Nintendo products, just as the Switch is. How less literal could you read into the words "we believe we’re just at the midpoint of this life cycle on [the Nintendo Switch] platform”! There's no room for misinterpretation there. 2024, sure, I could see that. And have the Switch and the new console out concurrently, but before that, I'd be amazed. Unless they strike gold, idea wise.
