  1. I think I might use the Super Mario World theme most often, if only to hear... Audio
  2. If the original post in the topic had actually contained reasoned, balanced discussion maybe the replies wouldn't have been so dismissive. The topic continued into Nintendo's business practises, which I don't see as OT at all. It's not exactly surprising that arguments start when people start dismissing Iwata's great work.
  3. The original point was about incomplete games. As most games are that offer a season pass. Now compare multi-game DLC from Nintendo to content locked on the disk on the competition's games. Day 1 DLC, pre-order bonuses. The PS4 version of Watch Dogs has an hour of content Xbox gamers don't get. It's shitty practise that screws the consumers.
  4. Sure it's made post release. And even if it was, the fact that one Amiibo can unlock "DLC" on over a dozen games shouldn't be ignored. This whinging about amiibo is typical of the one rule for Nintendo, another for their competitors mentality that seems pretty common these days. Mario Party 10 sold a huge amount. Probably by/for the kids still growing up on Nintendo. Check my list on the previous page for the actual variety on the Wii U.
  5. I assume you don't buy any games with a 'Season Pass' then? Incomplete game but spend another £15 for a fraction of the content they didn't want to put in the original release. Compare and contrast to Nintendo's most 'incomplete' game, Splatoon, where we've gotten weekly updates for free.
  6. Ummm... yes. New Super Mario Bros. U (2D Platformer), Nintendo Land (Mini game compilation) Lego City Undercover (openworld adventure) Mario & Sonic (Sports) Pikmin 3 (RTS) Super Mario 3D World (3D Platformer) Zelda: The Wind Waker (Adventure) The Wonderful 101 (Action/Strategy) Bayonetta 2 (Action) Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Puzzle) Zombi U (survival horror) Hyrule Warriors (Hack and slash) Mario Kart 8 (kart racer) Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (brawler) NES Remix (??) Devil's Third (shooter) Mario Party 10 (party game) Splatoon (multiplayer shooter) Star Fox Zero (arcade shoot-em-up) Super Mario Maker (level creator) Xenoblade Chronicles X (RPG) Pokkén Tournament (beat-em-up) Mario U, DK, Yoshi and Kirby. Four 2D platformers in three years. Five if you want to count Mario Maker. The above are just one example per category. There are obviously more for each. And I of course didn't get into any indie games, just the big Wii U titles. Give me Nintendo's style of multi-game DLC any day over the screwing the consumer approach of its two competitors.
  7. Unfortunately that's no doubt why they've made so many 'New' games and are reluctant to go back to a Galaxy style one. Especially with the latter being a far bigger effort, development wise.
  8. 100 million Wii's sold. 150 million DS's sold. 50 million 3DS's sold right in the middle of tablet and mobile gaming revolution. The Wii U failure being the exception to the success stories above. You can put that down to no third party support. First party wise there's huge variety with their content. Hardly. Microtransactions are what's becoming more and more commonplace with the competition. Day 1 DLC, pre-order bonuses, extra content on one console but not the other. Playstation and Xbox AAA games are filled with bullshit like this. Even Tearaway on PS4 is getting this treatment ffs. Amiibos are action figures with NFC functionality as a bonus. MULTI-GAME bonuses. I'd love to be clueless about business and sell 250 million Wii and DS's in 6 years. Getting people who would never have considered picking up a PS4 controller and playing games. That's simply not true. Just look at the amount of kids playing 3DS or the Super Mario happy meal on at McDonalds at the moment. The deal Iwata brokered with Universal Studios, the move to mobile gaming which you didn't mention...
  9. Not being as critical isn't the same as being dishonest. I suspect he's very wrong if he thinks people were lying in their tributes to Iwata last time around.
  10. Great news, Pikmin 3 was fantastic! I also really enjoyed switching between the leaders. Was very easy and made for some nice puzzle solving. It was also stressful (in a good way) wondering what was happening to the others while you were focused on one.
  11. This makes no sense. In what way does Creed or COD evolve and innovate with their yearly, iterative sequels? What does it matter if a game has supposed gimmicks, if that game is great fun to play? What gimmicks are present in Splatoon or Captain Toad or Pikmin 3 that stopped them from being great games? I also object to this thread being called "the honest topic". There was nothing dishonest about the previous Iwata thread.
  12. Is that really the best you can do, when it comes to reviewing Iwata's tenure? There was no hyperbole around the time of his passing, it was genuine and deserved praise. If you're going to stick the knife in at least come up with insightful comments about his handling of Nintendo.
  13. Isn't that what every other non-Nintendo AAA game does these days? Pre-order bonuses, day one DLC, costumes, extra weapons, special editions with bonus content. All locked on the disk for a few extra £££. I think we can cut Nintendo a break, for once.
  14. I find 99% of Let's Plays too annoying to watch. The personality is everything in things like this. I do enjoy the IGN Let's Plays a lot though.
  15. It's AMAZING. One of my favourite games of all time.
  16. Not much buzz for this? Seems Sony are letting it die for a second time Ridiculously excited to play it next week. Loved the Vita version and it seems there's a fair bit of new content this time around
  17. Woke up at 5am this morning, couldn't sleep, went down to play Watch Dogs and all of a sudden it was 9am. Having loads of fun with this, though it's pretty daunting just how much there is to do. The variety is pretty good too so you're not stuck doing the same things over and over. Some random thoughts... The one button hacking mechanic is fantastic. The criminal convoy missions are pretty tough, not so much taking out the main car but the goons who're protecting it as well. I'm finding money a little pointless though. I'm happy to just sticking with my silenced pistol and assault rifle. Car wise there isn't much point when you can just steal anything you see. The gang hideouts and ctOS centres you need to break into are the most fun I reckon. Love the stealth involved. The IGN review mentioned something about framerate drops and performance issues the more you play the game, I've sort of started noticing this a couple of times. I hope it doesn't get worse, that'd really break the immersion in a game like this. So far have managed not to have any negative rep, don't think that'll last long though. I'm trying to work my way through one district at a time, side-quest wise but whenever I think I've done them all, more pop up on the map out of the blue. I'd love to platinum this but it's just way too much to do ! I also don't really like the online hackings, so switched those off. All in all, loving it so far Shame there's no Photo mode, would be nice to take some cool screenshots
  18. Started this a couple of nights ago and played until you made it back to your hideout after the opening stadium mission. Wasn't feeling the game at all and didn't think it was for me. Just played a couple of hours of proper gameplay and it's clicked a lot more, really enjoying it now. It's my first experience of a sandbox game, and have to admit the scale and scope of the world is fantastic. Just being able to freely roam around this massive open world is great fun. So far I've stopped 4 crimes, hacked a ctOS tower (what does that do exactly? Does it make crimes pop up automatically in that area?) and done the Big Brother story mission where you have to stop the guy who harassed the sister by phone. Must admit though I'm finding the whole thing pretty intimating, especially as someone who's mostly stuck to the more simplistic Nintendo games until now. There just seems to be so many things to do and a ton of options on how to achieve objectives. I'd appreciate any tips from people on the best way to proceed, what skills to unlock early on etc. - The Car on demand thing, am I buying these cars or are they free to rent? - Progression wise I'm at 4/20 of Crimes solved, does that mean there are only 20 to solve or is that just how many you need to get the trophy? - How are you supposed to find these burner phones that Maurice has left lying around? - Is there a day/night cycle where certain things happen at certain times? - What should I be buying and crafting at this early stage? Any advice would be much appreciated! Looking forward to diving in some more tomorrow
  19. Just found out that the game can be set to both first and third person? If so I'm sold, I'll happily play it if in third person.
  20. Started this last night on PS4, never played a GTA-style openworld game and finding it all a bit overwhelming tbh, not sure it's the right game for me. Will press on and keep going though...
  21. Ugh, a dozen different pre-order bonuses, skins, multiplayer maps and bollocks like that. Remember when you buy a game and you get a game? Still, nice to get a release date.
  22. I was going to bring up the Millennium Falcon as well lol. Agree that this is the world's most rushed game, which is odd as they had ten years to make it.
