  1. Plans for Japan are coming together now and what once seemed like a distant dream is (scarily but excitedly) becoming a reality. My friend has all his money ready and is raring to go, I have most of mine but just need a few more pay days to have comfortable spending money and we've set down July as the month to go. So now it's just a case of me being sensible and not spending money on crap as I always do (or games I won't play). I've dreamed of going to Japan for years so this could be amazing but everything I do these days fills me with anxiety. I've just gotta remember that it's gonna be awesome and I shouldn't worry about every thing in the world ever. I MEAN ITS JAPAN OMG.
  2. Do you think this remake should be orchestrated?
  3. The new textures are nice but they're almost so nice that they make the low polygon count look jarring. I also think some of the atmosphere is lost in making it lighter and less foggy, I think that was part of the game, the moodiness and more importantly, all important smudge to hide the low detail of the environments. It's why I hate playing N64 games in HD, they look much nicer on an actual N64 with super low sharpness settings or, even better, on an actual CRT tv.
  4. @Sheikah I haven't actually, it was on my radar when it first appeared on VC but I forgot about it. I still have enough credit for a SNES game so I'll give it a go! It's a game I've been meaning to play for years
  5. Imagine if the amiibo was KRYSTAL. "Scan the Krystal amiibo to use her as an alt skin for Fox". Now that's the dream.
  6. That's true, I really wanted to like the Wii game but as the difficulty ramps up, the Wii Remote becomes your worst enemy. The thing I'll never be able to forget though is them boss battles... Ugh
  7. 6 dirty and washed out inches at that. Paper Mario TTYD is one of my favourite games of all time, I love the humour and it's the first RPG I completed. I wasn't that taken by Super Paper Mario though, couldn't bring myself to complete it. I haven't played Sticker Star and haven't heard great things either, I should probably reserve judgement until I play it though. With the games in decline, this being a rumour and the NX on the way, I'm not pumped in the slightest. I asked on Reddit, would Nintendo really put an unnanounced game on Wii U at this point? After they've been letting it die for 6 months and almost completely forgot about this thing called 'Christmas', if this game does turn out true I struggle to believe it will be a Wii U title, and if it is then I fear it will be of questionable rushed quality like Power Tennis and Amiibo Festival. I got down-voted to hell and lots of angry responses so I might get more levelled opinions here :p Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE for us to get another proper instalment on Wii U, I just really don't see it happening.
  8. I don't think that's true at all, as long as the controller has all the buttons needed, great games come from great software. Most of Nintendo's best and high quality titles come from the GameCube era, a controller that's about as conventional as they get for Nintendo. I think innovation comes from the power of the console. More power = more freedom to do whatever they want, an expansive and exciting world. For example, Metroid Prime was fantastic because of what the hardware allowed it to achieve. I'm all for them improving upon controllers they already have but there's no need to keep re-inventing the wheel. I'd say some of their new controllers have been to the detriment of some games. Super Monkey Ball has never been the same since it has had to use touch screens, Wii Remotes, balance boards and Slide Pads.
  9. Yeah, forget backwards compatibility, it's very under-used. Most casual owners of DS and Wii didn't even know about gba/GameCube and those that did were hardcore fans that still had their original systems. If it's easy to incorporate then fine, but if it means having to have an awkward architecture again then forget about it. Also, they HAVE to ditch the controllers. Trying to explain to my non-gamer friend who recently got a Wii U what controller she needs for different games is a nightmare. It's like 'don't get a classic controller as that only works with Wii games and some Wii U games, a classic controller Pro is the same but a PRO controller works with most Wii U games, party games you'll need a Wii remote, a normal one will do for most but... Wait, that game Nintendo Land that comes with the system? Yeah you'll need Wii motion plus for that.' A normal controller, like a pro controller with good triggers, that's all we need. Forget touch screens, gyro's, motion controls, fairy dust and stylus pens, it's all been done now and that era is over. (But next gen bongo's and Donkey Konga 4 I would welcome with open arms :p)
  10. I just shuddered at the thought of them 2D models in HD. Ah well, should still be fun.
  11. Slim Shady and an absolute CLASSIC. I haven't played it since I was like 10, it's a whole lot more Japanese than I remember. The characters and themes scream anime, I didn't know what that was back then though so it's no wonder I was in love with it. Playing it now I can't believe it's a Namco game as it feels like a mix of Monkey Ball (theme and music-wise) but plays so much like a Sonic Team/Kirby hybrid.
  12. Does anyone know if you can get GameCube to PS2 ports? I've found plenty of the opposite but nothing for what I'm after. I have a DDR Mario mix and third party dance mat for my GameCube and recently got a PS2, there's loads of DDR games that I'd be tempted to pick up for it if I can get those controllers working but don't really wanna have to bother with getting another double set of dance mats.
  13. I feel you there, Adventures is actually my favourite! But then i'm a sucker for Rare games. But that was my point, I personally like all the Starfox games but from a critical point and from what the main fans want, anything that de-rails it too far from the 64 and SNES is going to be sneered at.
  14. I've always heard the heated debate but never joined in myself because I actually don't know what difference it makes :p I'll pick up Mario Kart 64 for whenever I have another get-together, it's a shame they didn't release it a tad earlier as it would have made for a good Christmas/New Year party game.
  15. Yeah, we can only hope this one is well received. I've enjoyed a bunch of Starfox games but the SNES and N64 ones are the only ones that seem to have critical acclaim across the board, wheras all the others are hindered by weird controls or dinosaurs.
  16. Its been uncertain for so long I've lost interest now. Hopefully all these delays make it a decent title though and not like Nintendo's more recent Wii U output
  17. I think the intention is to give more incentive for people to buy amiibo whilst also rewarding those that already have them. There's already an eShop Mario Vs Donkey Kong you can buy outright if you can't be bothered with all this amiibo stuff.
  18. Between this place and Twitter I still see Nintendo as relevent as in the Wii days so it's weird to step out of my bubble once in a while and see things like this - Not a single title in the top 40, that's terrible. I knew the Wii U was damaging but it's crazy to think just how irrelevent it has made Nintendo in the West. It's gonna take a hell of a lot for them to make a comeback. A whole generation of kids are growing up on Minecraft and Fifa and seeing Mario as nothing more than some icon from the past like a Nokia phone or Gameboy. Thank god for amiibo, they at least ensure Nintendo still have some exposure in stores.
  19. I would be all over them in amiibo form, their hands also make me yearn for Nintendo LEGO.
  20. How many times have you tried it, it could just be your old cartridges. Some of my cartridges have to be re-inserted 3 to 4 times to show up, and I only know to keep trying because I already have it tuned in. When you're setting up the signal, make sure you try powering on the system with different games a good few times before giving up, N64's always get a little rusty if you haven't used them for a while.
  21. I was late to the HD game, finally getting a 360 in 2010. As a huge SEGA fan, OutRun Online Arcade was on my 'to buy' list from the store but with nearly 5 years worth of games to catch up on, it'd take me a while to get to that. When I finally went to buy it (a few years ago now) it was no longer available on the store. Due to the licence for Ferrari running out, it got pulled. With no physical copy in Europe I was kinda screwed and I never experienced this title. With the sudden downfall of Wii and DS online services, one of my favourite past times, BOOM STREET, was no longer an online affair and it seems there will never be a way for me to get that title back online. I love Sonic Runners for iOS atm, but it requires you to be online to play and often requires you to download new data for courses. Titles such as this will be completely unplayable in the future. As the Wii is now over 9 years old it got me thinking, just how safe are a lot of WiiWare titles? With some of them releasing at the early stages of console downloads, a lot of the developers are no longer around and some titles are even exclusive to WiiWare - these games could all become completely un-obtainable if the service was to go down soon. With more and more games being soley multiplayer experiences, such as Splatoon, in the years to come, how playable will these games be? We can replay Metroid, Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot today in the same way we could back then but in 20 years time, will we be able to say the same for a lot of current titles and will we even be able to get hold of them? I'd like to think there's some easy way to hold onto these but I'm not sure there is and as modern times have proved, you can't always rely on developers re-releasing old titles either due to licencing or weird hardware (Goldeneye, Donkey Kong 64).
  22. I've never played this series, I've always liked the look of it but missed it for whatever reason so I'll check this out for sure and... LOOK AT DIDDY OMG, he's never looked so cute.
  23. Happy Birthday N-E! I've been a member for over 10 years now and a reader for even longer, lurking as soon as I started secondary school which was like... 2003? I've really grown up with this site, poured all my emotional fanboy days into it, how much I hated Sony and MS, my rampant love for Donkey Kong, my desperation for Twilight Princess, my fascination with the best handheld device ever made all the way to my modern self, having grown up and realised there's life beyond Nintendo in videogames but still having a big place in my heart for them. I used to adore Cube-Europe and poured over each article, spent ages trawling through the desktop backgrounds (even on my dying 56k connection) and only dreaming of ever being able to post on there one day, it's crazy to think that I've been a staff member for over 3 years now and I'm so thankful. especly considrin i usd to typ liek this lol -bstmte More than anything though it's been a personal journey, I don't post that regularly in the forums now but I still love reading about all your escapades, and I've made some life-long friends over the years and some fantastic memories too. When I've had no one to turn to, I've always felt safe talking about my problems on here, as it has a sense of family but without the judgmental fears :p From dealing with school woes and coming out, this place and you guys have been like my own personal therapist and I can't thank you all enough. And I'll never know who it was but I have to say thank you to the guy who posted a link to this site for me to follow on the Nintendo VIP forums back when I was 12, else I may have never found this place! Here's to another 18 years, where we'll all be playing the PS7 and complaining about lack of third-party support on the Wii-Z.
  24. R.I.P. I've never been that into rock music but stumbled upon The Labyrinth a few years ago and was obsessed with it. I've watched that film so many times now and because of it went on to listen to so much amazing Bowie music that he's grown into one of my favourite artists. I'm glad I got to experience his amazing musical talent and freedom of expression whilst he was still with us and I'm sure his music will live on for many years to come.
