The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening REMAKE — 20th September 2019
Jonnas replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Words to live by. Who says games can't be educational? -
Now, to the surprise of nobody, the soundtrack to Three Hopes is pretty dopes. Besides the expected remixes, there are at least two very cool tracks: Who let the drummer compose a song? and You will remember it's not Xenoblade At least that's what I'm calling them

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening REMAKE — 20th September 2019

I mean... I absolutely recommend it, Zelda or no. It's a properly designed adventure game that encourages exploring the island in a non-linear fashion, and it plays super fun. One of those games where the devs just kept adding stuff they thought would be neat. Very chill vibes in that respect. -
So here's something interesting that maybe only I care about, but I'll share anyway: This Youtuber, doing God's work, is one of the very few sources confirming what the 90s were like for console videogames in my country. Speaking from memory, all of it lines up, except for the "Every place was selling consoles" part, which I definitely do not recollect. Major nostalgia when he mentioned the Saturn's killer app, too! My only complaint is that he kinda glossed over the Game Boy's success, which was huge. Pretty much the one Nintendo product that Concentra (*spits on the floor*) did not ruin. God, just hearing that name makes my blood boil still. Anyway, yeah, if you want to hear how the 90s were like here in bizarro land, check the video out. I promise it's good.

Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia as well. Might be worth playing it just to check. No hurries, tho -
Doubt it. They're not removing content, so any twitterstorm will still happen (and I'm positive those work as free publicity anyway). I bet my own ass that this mode will feature some costume/accessory that technically covers more of Bayo's skin, but somehow makes her sexier and more risqué.

Cube Tries to Play (Almost) Every Sonic Game
Jonnas replied to Cube's topic in General Gaming Discussion
I actually really liked CD when I played it back in 2014. It's chaotic and messy, but really fun to explore and discover. It is hard to argue against its detractors though, as most of the things they dislike about the game are also things that I fully agree with. They just don't bother me in the same way. -
Hey, it's my boys! Those are some good routes to be taking early game. From my own playthrough, my recommendations are: Ignatz should sneak in some sword training, as he makes an excellent Assassin in the lategame. Ignore his magic talents, they're nearly useless. Hilda, sadly, cannot become a War Master. As such, her ideal lategame class is Wyvern Knight/Lord. So give her some Flying exp occasionally to avoid a heavy grind later on Marianne and Lorenz share a similar niche in that they're good with both lances and magic (albeit in a different order, as you've already noticed). They also both learn Frozen Lance, a lance art that hits Mag. Leonie should get some bows to complement her usual lance/mounted classes. She's good at it. Glad to hear you revisiting this. Just as I'm playing Golden Deer in Warriors, no less.

I somehow missed this thread before. I don't have any "typical" summer games, or a ritual, or anything. I more easily remember the books I read on a trip than the games, usually. But there was this one June at the age of 14-15 where I had surgery on my foot and had to stay home for a couple of weeks. I spent that time replaying a game I beat before, this time with the intent of completing it 100%. In the process, I properly fell in love with it, and it forever cemented itself as the perfect summer game for me. And that was... Yeah, looking for that treasure with the real sun in the background is something else, believe you me. And in truly exploring the game, I finally understood it. Great couple of weeks, those were.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack: N64 & SEGA Mega Drive (& GBA!!)
Jonnas replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Castlevania Bloodlines is also on the Mega Drive NSO, iirc EDIT: Wasn't Contra on the NES, too? -
For all the talk about potential outrage, this kind of cheesecake is too honest about what it is to ever be stopped/shamed by such trivial discourse. The only thing I'll be shaming them for is that heart-shaped hole on the chainsaw So structurally unsound.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes (24th June)
Jonnas replied to darksnowman's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Did anybody else purchase the game, or just me? Swap Shamir and Raphael and my opinion remains the same. Shamir's style becomes incredibly hard to use in tougher encounters (because whenever you gain control of a character, every enemy nearby bum-rushes that character), so she's been a struggle. Raphael already clicked though, and I'm having a blast. It helps that he's the most mobile foot character, surprisingly enough. Ignatz's getting there, still haven't figured out exactly which attacks are meant to splash paint. Lysithea also feels a bit messy and unfocused (the way her attacks spread so much), but in her case I think that's the point. I've also been figuring out Hilda and Marianne. They're excellent as adjutant/support attackers, but I'm starting to see what they can do as point characters as well. PleaseletmeplayasJudith -
That's an accurate description of my playthrough of The Room Virtua Fighter didn't even get that much time.

I haven't played any games actually from 2022. Unless you count the demos for Triangle Strategy and Three Hopes. If so, Triangle Strategy is the GOTY by default. With that out of the way, my actual GOTY so far is Katamari Damacy. It's a beautiful game that fed me pure joy. Surprise hit... well, definitely Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, but since I haven't played that one properly yet, I'll have to give this prize to the quality of Steamworld Dig 2, which was a hell of an improvement over the first one. Biggest disappointment was The Room. I wanted a simple, enjoyable puzzle game, but I did not enjoy this overly complicated game I did not oh hi Mark. Worst game would also be that... if not for Virtua Fighter 2 (Mega Drive). *shudder*

Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase (June 28th 15:00 CEST/14:00 BST)
Jonnas replied to Ashley's topic in Nintendo Gaming
For once, I didn't actually watch the presentation, merely read about it after the fact. As such, many of the announcements lost the impact they normally would have. Anyway: Super glad Nier Automata is coming to Switch. Between the stylish action, the robot/A.I. focused plot, the gorgeous music, and those beautiful buttocks, this game always hit the right notes for me; Live a Live has a demo. Neat; Persona games... if I'm ever getting into SMT, I won't start with Persona. And if I ever get into Persona, it'll be 3. For me, this was merely an ok announcement; Blanc looks great. So does Lorelei and the Laser Eyes; Harvestella is so not my type of game, but that trailer made it very alluring, I must admit; Megaman Battle Network Collection got the loudest gasp from me. The sub-series never really clicked for me (surprisingly enough, as it theoretically does a lot of things I like), but I'm very happy to see a modern rerelease. Nice going, EXE. All we need is a Star Force collection and I think that's all the main Megaman content available on modern consoles, I think. And yeah, that's pretty much it. I had no expectations, but also no real wishes: the one game I wanted the most (Three Hopes) is within my grasp, and the one I wanted to know more about (Scarlet&Violet) was never going to show up. Nevertheless, I consider this a strong showing, considering the track record for Partner Directs. Winners for me are Nier, Blanc, and Lorelei, for sure. And from a more impartial standpoint, Mega Man. EDIT: Oh shit, I forgot a couple! Legend of Wright looks gorgeous, but I need to see more than just the art style first; Return to Monkey Island... did not look impressive. At all. Come on, man, surely you guys can do a better art style than that? *P3r5on4 -
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes (24th June)
Jonnas replied to darksnowman's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I finally was able to try the demo today. I definitely enjoyed a lot of what I played. Some stray thoughts: The plot goes haywire immediately after Kostas, that's wild. So, if the Chapter 1 bandit dies early, everything changes? Love it. If Byleth never showed up, Jeritza would be the third professor... Pfffffft! This might be the lack of Musou experience talking, but I'm finding Normal Mode far too easy so far. I got an ASS ranking right on the 2nd Mission. Damn. Don't think I can repeat that one, either. I love Holst He's all I wanted out of the character Shahid merely existing and name-dropping Khalid made me so giddy, you have no idea. Shamir joins the Deer All we're missing is Cyril Claude's wyvern can breathe fire. It may just be a reference to his exclusive Battalion Art, but... are all wyverns in FE actually capable of this? Favourite characters to use so far are Shez, Claude, Leonie, Lorenz, and Shamir. Ignatz and Raphael have plenty of potential, but I haven't fully clicked with them yet They just gave us a kickass remix of Apex of the World right at the end of the Prologue, huh? I wasn't fully planning on buying this, but I think I'm on board now. Hell yeah! On top of everything else about Holst, it's ProZD voicing him? Truly amazing. He had voiced Darros the Pirate in FE Heroes before, but that was a minor character. Really happy that he got a more prominent role in the series. Before this, the most important role I knew he did was Hwang from Soul Calibur VI. ProZD is definitely leaving his mark. Also: -
I can see you're playing this on Switch Handheld mode...

Gaming Podcasts: A Thread about Listening to Others
Jonnas replied to Goron_3's topic in General Gaming Discussion
In my case, the various side-projects and unfocused content is what drew me in the first place! The Hall of Greats, the Betting Specials, Easy Update, Box Peek,... I liked the creativity on full display, it kind of worked as a platform for various creators simultaneously. But that sort of wild variety has been diminishing with time, especially ever since Kyle left (a very important chaotic presence in EZA). I enjoyed the podcast mostly because of him and Brandon, but then even Jones eventually left. Frame Trap's great, but clearly that's ending as well. That leaves Isla's projects, Huber's presence, and the occasional Don appearances as the sole things that I appreciate. Which makes sense, I came for the creators, and the product loses quality when the creators leave or feel burned out. I do think EZA mostly suffers from not actually renewing the talent they have, or rather, could have. They went from 9 people to 6, and the only new addition to make up for it is a Community Manager? Maybe Gabby will bring some cool projects to the table, but it's hard to say. Though you guys also have a point: you do need a "core", a main attraction to move the ship forward, and both Frame Trap and the Podcast were it. Maybe more should've been done to keep those two as the central focus of the product rather than the reviews, but maybe the decentralized nature of EZA made it impossible. -
Yes, this is correct. She's a glass cannon, or rather, a glass nuke, and super easy to train. But I was talking about popularity polls where she takes a lot of votes, and that's not merely gameplay ability. In-story, Lysithea is such a brat who borderlines bullies her teammates, and... I don't get why people like her so much. Granted, her support with Cyril is adorable, and likely one of the best pairings in the game. But Cyril himself always scores low, so it's probably not because of that. You're not wrong He's a well-written character beneath those thick layers of snob, but definitely easy to hate. ...
-
It's so weird to me that Lysithea is the second-most popular Golden Deer, as she's easily the most dislikeable one. If Claude's figure looks particularly good, I know I won't resist.
-
I do not feel strongly any one way or the other regarding this thread
-
FE rumours are almost always bunk. I'd bet against this one too. I am aware I'm always at the risk of looking like a fool whenever I reject these rumours so strongly. It's a risk I'm always willing to take.

Sad to say, won't be able to try the demo as it comes with awful timing (won't have time today, and then I'll be on holidays until the 19th). I'm hearing interesting tidbits about the plot presented so far (only the bits), and it sounds like they're speedrunning through the parts that happened in the original I'm guessing the story is pretty much mostly for those who already played Three Houses.
