  1. Odds are it would be the West Coast, with NOA being based in Seattle. There's currently an 8 hour time difference which means it would be 6pm to 12am.
  2. Matt Cassamassina posted this on his IGN blog: Is this going to be the day they finally reveal all release and pricing details?
  3. I never really thought Revolution would be the final system name, despite its appropriatness, it's just too arrogant a name to try and get away with. At the same time, I still don't really like the Wii name; I've accepted it, doesn't mean I think it's good.
  4. If you read the comments to the SPONG piece, the basic situation was that Laurent Fischer was spouting the party line by rote. http://www.spong.com/article/10566
  5. How about a handheld MMORPG device, locked to say something like FFXII? Would go online through either WiFi or mobile phone connections, would have sufficient flash storage for updates, etc.
  6. Unconfirmed Sadness in-game screenshot, running on PC development workstation: http://www.n-philes.com/games/WII/WII_sadness/17.jpg
  7. They're not after much for their trade-in deal, are they!
  8. Microsoft might have trouble avoiding these, as they're late to the game on some of them, with their Xbox; Nintendo, however, can potentially play the prior development card. If you can show you had developed and prototyped similar technologies, before someone else patented the "idea", then the patents are often invalidated as you have a prior right to use your technologies. This is one of the other flaws in a lot of patents; they patent the concept of something without providing the technical details, that you are meant to also provide. This is because the US Patent Office have become extremely lax in enforcing the requirements to successfully file a patent; one example came up a few years ago where a woman had patented the idea of a virtual shopping basket, but had not detailed any specifics of how it would work. She sued a lot of big online stores, Amazon et al, and made a killing, right up until it was appealled and shown that her patent was without merit.
  9. I'm presuming "up-co"ming deals, or just "co"ming deals.
  10. This is what Babel-Fish made of it: Just says that the game will be available at launch, in Japan, and that MS6 will also be included in the package (I think...).
  11. http://wii.ign.com/articles/722/722491p1.html Wii Renders Fatalities Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is headed to Nintendo's new generation console. Find out when. by Matt Casamassina August 1, 2006 - Publisher Midway on Tuesday revealed to IGN that it is planning to bring its new entry into the bloody Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, to Nintendo's Wii console. The title will arrive for the system in the first quarter of next year, according to representatives for the company. "We are extremely excited to be bringing the action of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon to the Nintendo Wii in early 2007," said Steve Allison, chief marketing officer, Midway. "Our Chicago studio, under the direction of Ed Boon, has been working extremely hard to make Armageddon stand out in a big way with the inclusion of the entire Mortal Kombat character lineup, the Motor Kombat mini-game, a new Konquest mode and several other innovative gameplay additions that help keep the franchise at the top of its genre. We're confident that Wii fans will truly appreciate the finished product when it's ready to hit store shelves." Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, expected for PlayStation 2 and Xbox this October, represents a culmination of the franchise's history, featuring more than 60 characters, a Kreate-a-Fighter mode, mid-air attacks, a dynamic fatality system, and much more. The E3 2006 demo of the game included such playable characters as Montaro, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sektor, Sheeva, Shinnok, Stryker, Taven, Goro, Shao Kahn, Fujin, Jarek, Kai, Kintaro, Rain, Reiko and Sareena. Midway has decreased the number of fighting styles per character from three to one in an attempt to maintain balance between the greatest selection of Kombat characters in a videogame to date. However, the ability to string together mid-air combos and custom create fatalities on the fly complements a host of levels that are more interactive than ever before, with backdrops ranging from spinning fan blades to pools of acid and lava. Midway has not yet revealed how it plans to take advantage of Nintendo's unique controller for the Wii version of the title. We've uploaded multiplatform videos and screenshots of Armageddon to our media section as these should be entirely representative of the Wii build. Stay tuned for more as it develops.
  12. Well, current exchange rates put: US$2000 = GB£1072.79 Anyway, odds are they won't be given "free", they will probably be long-term free loans, provided on the basis that they can be returned at any time.
  13. They're taking the piss, if you hadn't realised; all too often, you get a statement released and people start trying to read something into it, or they start making outlandish claims about some hidden meaning. For once they're calling people on their BS.
  14. I actually know, through chats and e-mail, the person who directed the voice recording on the original Resident Evil; the B-Movie/overly-dramatic voice-acting style was actually specified by the producers of the game, deliberately. The game was always intended to be partly a homage to those old B-movies; but then imagine trying to get professional actors to act like they can't act, it's not exactly easy to pull off.
  15. I would say, probably your best route would be to start doing some basic development work; start pulling some code together, try to demonstrate your ideas getting as close to the control method as you can, using a mouse interface. If you can get across your basic elements and inspire that feeling of frsutration, at not being able to demonstrate the full control setup, then you would probably increase your chance of being able to get your hands on a devkit.
  16. http://www.planetgamecube.com/editorialArt.cfm?artid=11815 Could it be a volume slider, or toggle switch? Seems like a sensible place to put it, not in any area where you would likely accidentally press it while playing.
  17. Yeah, but it seems like Phantom might well have been set up as much as a con, as much as anything else. On the other hand, the lap-board in that picture is meant to be coming out as a separate product, after it got rave reviews from everyone who tried it out.
  18. That would probably turn out to have been a defective batch of components, rather than a design flaw, which is what you could only rightfully call a hardware bug.
  19. Didn't Nibris have a stand at E3? That's not something you do unless you're serious, the cost involved is not to be taken lightly, even if it's only a small display.
  20. I think there has been an ED thread in here before, but I went back 10 pages and couldn't see it and the search function kept 404'ing me. Anyway, it seems like SK do have plans for further ED games: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3152021 And the actual Blog post: http://blogs.ign.com/silicon-knights/2006/07/06/24044/ Considering Nintendo published and hold the rights to ED...
  21. OK, the question is, is it definitely US$? It seems a bit odd that an Aussie price works out to exactly US$249, so you then have to ask if this is a US site and it's a typical US mindset of seeing $ signs and assuming they mean US$. Unfortunately, the Toys'R'Us Oz site just says about placing a $50 deposit, no mention of the system price.
  22. OK, here's a possibility: CAPCOM upgrade the RE4 engine and create a new adventure using it, however, they also include the code from RE4 and allow you to play that with the new control system. I'm not suggesting the same thing as these extra missions, like the Ada one, that other people have said; this is CAPCOM exploiting the Gamecube compatibility/upgrade side of the Wii, so they're not have to code a whole new engine, which gives them enough time to produce new content. You give any reasonble sized studio 9 months to create new content for an existing engine, it's generally do-able, as long as they don't stray too far from the design constraints of the existing one.
  23. This was where I was saying the first part backed up Hideo Kojima's position on supporting the PS3, at present. He believes, at present, that with the PS2's position of dominance in Japan he has to voice his support for the PS3, it's not until there is a cultural shift (which sounds likely) to supporting the Wii wholeheartedly that he will change his stance.
  24. In P.R.O.J.E.C.T. Hammer, you're fighting against rogue robots, not living creatures. No blood, I'm afraid.
  25. I thought you lot might like to read the second part of that editorial I pasted from IGN Insider: http://insider.ign.com/articles/716/716496p1.html
