Dragon Quest I, II & III are heading West on September 27th!
drahkon replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
You had me at "grinding" Bought it and will give it a go soon -
And the 5th run is a win 20XX sure is a cool game. A rogue-like Megaman clone that works surprisingly well. The randomly generated levels provide a decent challenge. At the end I was kind of able to tank my way through the last two levels. I did, however, have to play it safe during the final boss. I consider this game finished now, but will definitely go back from time to time

It's not particularly what I'm looking for. Just wondering whether the first one is a good game in itself, as I've read that lots of gamers aren't really feeling it. I think I'll get this later today. -

@Hero-of-Time Seeing as you've played these three games quite recently would you recommend them? I'm tempted to get one. The first is 3.99€ right now but I've heard it didn't age well. You know how much I enjoyed DQXI and the general Dragon Quest Feeling™, would I get enjoyment from the first installment of the series? -
Does anybody have experience with the 8BitDo Wireless USB Adapter? I'm thinking about ordering one so I can use a DS4 for the Switch, as I don't like the Pro Controller. Maybe one of you ladies and gents got one (or a different one from another company) and can share some information

20XX I only did 4 runs, so far, but they've been pretty fun. Haven't managed to win, yet. Farthest I got was beating 8 bosses. With Shovel of Hope and Golf Story done, this and Astral Chain will keep me busy for a while.
-
File #3 is done, four hours in. My thoughts so far: Astral Chain is a beautiful and stylish game sound and music are on point love the setting; cyberpunk but set in a kind of noir future works great the lip-sync...oh, the lip-sync; what the hell is that? It's very lazy and takes away lots of emotions in cutscenes fights are very button-mashy so far; not what I expected why oh why, PlatinumGames, did you have to put the stupid "press L and then the right stick to slow down time in order to cut through stuff"-mechanics in battles? It's so stupid...kind of like a manufactured quick time event; I don't mind it outside of fights but it ruins the flow during an intense battle and one more thing: the "platforming" sections are unnecessarily iffy tldr: Gameplay has been meh, so far, but the setting, characters and story are intriguing.
-
Oooooweeee, what a stylish game this is Really digging the art style. And that music...spectacular. Not sure what I think of the battle system, yet. It's still very early days, though. Surely it'll get more complex Found a cat stuck under a trash container I'll be back, my cute little friend, don't worry.

My sis and her boyfriend got this for me for Christmas Can't wait to sink my teeth into it tomorrow
-
Wonderful and bittersweet ending to Mr. Robot.

Happy Holidays, you lovely bunch. My mom, my sister and her boyfriend will get together tonight and have dinner Already got some money from my mom which I will invest in a burger from my favourite burger restaurant next week Not sure what I'll get from my sis. She did drop some hints, though, so...maybe a game for the Switch Got my mom two CDs from a German musician she likes. My sister and her boyfriend will get a steak cutlery set. Tomorrow and the day after my mom and I will have some traditional Christmas foods: Self-made potato salad and roulades

Finished Golf Story just now. All my previous criticism still stands. Mind-numbingly tedious fetch quests en masse. Most of them literally with a different paint job. And that story, including all characters involved are forgettable at best. The golf mechanics, however, are pretty good. The tournaments and matches against NPCs were great fun. But in an RPG, even good a good battle system can't carry the game forever. I'm glad I got it on sale. The reduced price pretty much reflects the reduced enjoyment I got. I will stay cautiously optimistic for the sequel. Having other sports to help mitigate the tedium might be what makes for a great RPG.
-
Nope. The quests are always the same... "shoot some balls into some areas" - but hey, sometimes the balls have different colours "run around in a circle and hit checkpoints" - but hey, sometimes the checkpoints have different colours "go around and collect shit" - but hey, you always collect different shit It is tedious as all hell and just means to make the game longer. And while the game as a whole has a certain charm to it, the characters, setting and story don't. It sounds weird, but it's the only way I can describe it. The only thing that keeps me going: Playing a course/tournament. It's quite relaxing just teeing up on 9 holes in a row and trying to win. I won the first real tournament and it was great. Each hole was challenging and I didn't have to run around and do mindnumbingly boring tasks. I will sit this through, though, because my only new year's resolution is: finish games before starting a new one (except games that you can play endlessly like...YES, YOU KNOW WHICH GAME I'M TALKING ABOUT) and why not start early with this. And as I said: There are some tournaments/courses left to play, so...

You can check your record via the statistics menu and capture a screenshot Yup, that's pretty much it for The Defect. Defensive cards to reduce incoming damage and let orbs do their thing. With certain power cards turns pretty much play themselves
-
Indeed. Ohhh, you need to post a screenshot of your deck. Would like to see it. It's no easy feat to finish a run with The Defect on your third try Glad you're enjoying it. Wish I could play it, but I didn't bring my PS4 with me for the holidays. Have to wait 'til next year Unless the game will be on sale for the Switch

Nico with a good fight, but Humphries was just better. Next year we'll see the first German player to ever reach the 1/16 finals of the World Darts Championship. I'm sure of it Edit: Oh no, Nico had tears in his eyes during an interview And the interviewer didn't pick up on that and just kept asking questions about the match...

4 hours into Golf Story...and it's becoming stale. The golf mechanics are ok, but they alone can't carry the game. And then there's the humour...Golf puns here, fonts/speech bubbles that change in size there. It gets old very quickly. The story is boring, mainly because the characters are uninspired. You have the coach who thinks you suck but apparently changes his mind, you have the shady business man and your rival who hates you for a stupid reason. And who are you, anyway? No name and your backstory is just "I wanna be the very best". Quests are pretty much all fetch quests. Sometimes you golf, sometimes you have a checkpoint race. I've read in a review that "fetch quests aren't boring". I don't share that sentiment... The first enjoyment faded fast. I hope it picks up again. I'm not doing any sidequests in the hopes that the main story has some kind of twist in store.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, but man, those games QubicGames is giving away for free are horrible.
-
Hopp just wasn't himself this World Championship. Adding to that, Labanauskas checkout percentage was really good. Alright, Nico Kurz. Time for you to step up tomorrow
-
Yes, very happy Gonna be tough matches in the next round for both of them. Hopefully Hopp will be able to play much better today than in his first match. I hate it. It's become more common in darts, though. E.g., whenever Hopp plays in Germany his opponents get booed relentlessly. It's one thing to be "against" someone because you like the other but in those cases it's just disrespectful.

20XX is amazing. Only put 1 hour into it, but I enjoy it quite a lot. It actually is Megaman with roguelike elements and procedurally generated levels. There are 4 characters in total. The first two are unlocked from the start; one with a sword and one with a ranged attack. No idea how to unlock the other two and what their abilities are. You have your standard roguelike elements: permanent upgrades and unlockable items you can then find in the levels. Love it It also has online and local coop. Might give the latter a go later today with a mate
-
Indeed Nico Kurz just won his game. So happy for him And now let's hope Maximiser wins his match. Edit: He's not playing at his usual level. Gonna be a close one...
-
Anybody here who played 20XX? That one Megaman-roguelike-game? Seems like my kind of game, just wondered if anybody could give me some of their impressions Edit: Nevermind, just watched Jim Sterling playing it and decided that I needed it

My advice for the future: Only buy Christmas presents for yourself. You'll be swimming in video games.

I’ve finished 27 games this year: 19 PS4 games 6 PSVita games 2 Android games And here’s my Top 10 of 2019 (I’ve chosen to disregard release dates and instead chose from all games I’ve completed this year) All in all, a great year of video gaming for me My next chapter already began with the purchase of the Nintendo Switch. With this and the PS4 seemingly going out with a bang 2020 will be off to a great start
