Fair enough (as Yoshi is quite a unique game, unlike, say, COD), but that's something else I was getting at - you don't judge the Yoshi game on its own merits, do you? You would be inclined to judge it based on whether it offers much new and exciting, in relation to the past games (like you rightly said). So it's not a case of judging a game solely on its 'own merits'.

So you disagree with me, but then agree that actually we do have expectations as we judge them based on previous games in the series? We judge games all the time based on expectations. Splatoon lost some favour because people judged the game to be lacking in content (based on expectations of how much content we should receive for a new game). It also lost favour as people wanted voice chat (again, an expectation). This is not a dig by the way, as Splatoon sounds excellent, but I'm pointing out that expectations do affect reviews, and it's impossible to rule out (nor do I necessarily think it should be ruled out). You can bet the new Destiny DLC this September is also going to get a bad rap unless it's really amazing, because it costs the price of the full game. Again, we have an expectation of how much game we should get for that money. If the next COD launched and there was no voice chat, well, people have come to expect that feature in FPS games and would voice their anger.

Reviewing by nature is gauging a game against our expectations. I'm not saying get someone who dislikes a genre to review a game from that genre, because they're bound to review the game with a bias. But I think being bored by a series can validly form part of your review - if the particular game in the series you're reviewing was exciting you, because it was still innovating, you wouldn't be bored; right? Let's say a game was the 10th game in a series or something, and very little had been improved over the course of the past 4-5 games. Even if the game was sound, maybe even mechanically great, it's also possible it's not exciting because it's the same thing again. Maybe it's also rehashing a lot of content from a previous game, or using gameplay mechanics that have aged with the times; should each game be treated a masterpiece, even if it's mostly all the same old spiel? In my opinion, part of keeping series going is knowing how to improve games so they still feel relevant. This feels particularly more important in less story-driven games.

I think that's the difference; Elite is going for more realism and what it might be like to actually fly a ship, and obviously doesn't have planetary landing yet, which instantly makes it far less appealing to me and I imagine many other gamers. This just looks like pure, unadulterated fun.

That looks like a modified microscope slide holder.

That made for an excruciating read. Truly tragic - the pricing, and even more so, that guy in the interview! What a cock.

@Daft @Shorty Really sorry guys, I'm going to have to cancel. Didn't realise before but tomorrow we're going to be packing a lot of stuff for moving to our new house. Sorry, hope that's enough time to get a replacement! Anyone want to take my spot tomorrow for a L35 PoE?

You realise the people here visit the forum every day and are reacting based on how he is all the time (as in continuously, relentlessly trolling)? Not trying to have a dig, but saying you're not around much means you probably have a very different perspective than the rest of us.

Oh hang on, are we in the Wii U topic here?
-
Suikoden III, the PS2 RPG, is being released for the first time ever in the UK tomorrow on the PSN Store (at £7.99). I've played a few hours of Suikoden II and really enjoyed it so far.

Don't do it! You'll need dialysis!

http://mynintendonews.com/2015/06/22/reggie-talks-about-why-he-thinks-the-wii-u-didnt-do-so-well-at-first/ You have momentum? Has the Wii U passed 10 million yet? It's obvious great games were needed. I said launching with NintendoLand and NSMBU was lazy and not a good idea. They killed the Wii off in its last couple of years and this was what they came up with in that time. Who's surprised? Reggie needs to stop talking. Ubisoft did a better job at selling the Wii U's capabilities(ZombiU) than Nintendo and they had less time than Nintendo. Why it "didn't do so well at first". Arguably it did better at the start than it is now, what with its third party support.

Funny, I distinctly remember you complaining that screenshots can be selective and not indicative of much?
-
Well you may think that, but you're wrong. (hurhur) At least in terms of addressing Jonnas's original point, it's probably because more people think the way I do as the reason why the handheld titles are, in relative terms, overlooked (OoT tops best game ever polls, the handheld titles don't). Also ALTTP, OoT, MM, WW. Handheld titles are great, don't get me wrong, but not as great. The DS titles though were miles behind, IMO. Phantom Hourglass was dogshit.
-
If you don't want to do 35 tomorrow, I will.
-
I'd say they get overlooked for a big reason - they're not as good. :p

Everyone talks about this like it was an option - like they could have funded it all and it would have been a great business decision. They may not have had the option to fully fund it (because they wanted to release it to more people), or the cost of fully funding it and getting complete exclusivity may have been too high/not considered good value.
-
Oh right. Don't you just love the time they do these things. :/ Looks like we won't be able to play tonight @Jimbob!
-
I would like to do 2 more nightfalls tonight. Anyone else want to join me? Will be on from maybe 7:45 PM (maybe slightly earlier/slightly later).
-
Not bought it yet, but thought I would bring this to people's attention, as it's pretty cool: Qwertee

So when you're essentially out of excuses you default to 'but what they unlock isn't much'. Serebii, you need to realise that you get challenged because you talk complete bollocks sometimes. If you say 'games are 100% complete without amiibo' you are wrong so you will get people challenging you, like me and Wii just did. The less nonsense you post, the less arguments will pop up! And everyone wins.
-
It's content made during the development of the game. It's part of the full game content that is deliberately locked behind a paywall as an extra incentive for people to buy amiibo. This isn't content made after development, it is part of the 'full game' development that is held back. For you to say it's content made separately is nonsense, as you know it isn't. It's part of the game they make, during development, that they hold back. And also, I will comment as much as I want about Nintendo, thank you very much.
-
The games are not 100% complete without amiibo because content on the disc is locked behind them. You are so blinkered to truth and reason when it comes to Nintendo, it's slightly sick. Nobody believes anything you say anymore!

lol. You serious?
