No financial benefit, really? It's being offered for a fraction of the price it'll realistically be sold for at retail through kickstarter. That is, factually, a financial benefit. The comparison to F-Zero doesn't work at all. F-Zero is a Nintendo game while this isn't a Sony game. Ergo, Sony would have to offer a lot of money to get full exclusivity, an amount they probably couldn't justify. This way is better for everyone; stretch goals mean more people may get it, and the price is cheaper. Sony are obviously backing it so will help see it is released.

I really don't get the comments about Shenmue's funding being 'disgusting'. How the fuck is paying £18.54 up front disgusting compared to £40-50 when it is released? Do people just not like maths or something? The funny thing is that you can obviously still buy the game when it comes out instead of paying now.

It's no different to how you get £100-200 "collectors editions" for games that had no kickstarter for them. This is better/more ethical because you can get the game much, much cheaper if that's all you want. You can't really say it's a bit unethical because they offer something totally optional. Not sure what the complaint about the stretch goals is to be honest; normally you pay £50 for a game and have no 'bonuses' at all. It's Shenmue 3 so they don't really need stretch goals...yet Kickstarter convention means you pretty much have to have them or it looks shit.

Honestly can't wait for this, it looks amazing. It's like this and The Tomorrow Children are capturing that feeling of exploration in different ways. Such a great time to be a gamer. It has been confirmed you can bump into other people, I think.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'they're fleecing fans'; Kickstarter usually always means you get a cheaper game. Full PS4 games are normally £40-50 upon release; this is $29 (£18.62) so you're basically getting it for between a third and a half of the normal price of a game! It's also a great way to offer more things that you might not originally have been able to provide on a possibly tight budget (e.g. support for more platforms).

Sony had an utterly insane presentation... The Last Guardian, FFVII and Shenmue 3. Before even mentioning the rest... Absolutely fucking crazy. That's how you do an E3.

Yeah, the obvious irony is that he complains about the PS4 all the time regarding the most trivial aspects (for instance, about how games that he has deleted still having a menu entry makes for one of the worst OS he's ever used). It's more than a little curious that he finds your 'anti-Wii U ways' hilarious given his own posts about these parts. Best bet is to not rise to it. It always feels like he's angling for an argument whenever he makes these narrow-minded posts.

Ha. And don't he know it.

I've watched the anime and it is indeed great.

I could do with opening the chest on my warlock in PoE since I got the bounty for the Queenbreaker Bow (now I need the Queen's seal thingy). Won't be back until Sunday evening though!

Fuck me. You must be a riot at parties. I can just imagine somebody cracking a joke, laughter ready to erupt... "Excuse me, I'm going to have to stop you there - there's some factual errors in that joke"

The thing is though, Kotaku love RPGs in general and although it was a different guy who reviewed the original, they were reasonably positive about the first game. It could be a case of "this guy doesn't like JRPGs" but then it'd be pretty weird to have him review it, if that was the case. To be honest, I'm yet to see anyone who actually disliked the original. It genuinely sounds like he just did not enjoy playing the game.
-
Some on Kotaku imported the Japanese version and has played 70 hours of this game, and unfortunately doesn't sound too positive. He says that combat is a slog and not very interesting. Sounds a little disappointing really. Guess we'll have to see how it pans out.

Who is doing PC multiplayer with you? On this forum at least, there is next to no PC online gaming community. Fair enough if you have a large circle of friends all gaming every day on PC, but at least with PSN there are usually at least 5-8 of us online in the evenings on any given day. Also owning your games is totally a mental thing. So long as you keep up your subscription it makes no difference at the end of the day.
-
Nah. I will say though, you're totally missing out by blanking all multiplayer. There's so much more fun to be had in shooters where you can have a laugh with people as you play. And the communication aspect, too. There's also all the games you get by having Plus, too.

Woot! Good news.

Destiny's power is the social aspect. I can't imagine many people play the PS3 version so it'll probably make for a lonely experience.

I'll probably be on from 7:45 ish (maybe 8, hopefully not).

No, let's rewind as something has clearly gone over your head here. Nobody is saying amiibo should not unlock any content. I am saying that they should not unlock some of the content they currently do. That is, having on-disc content tied to amiibo. Whatever functionality they would get instead (app compatibility, amiibo-specific games) does not bother me as I have no interest in them. And you are saying that removing this one feature would remove their worth and ruin them, even after admitting the real reason for their success. Ridiculous.
-
lawl. K. They're selling through because of some functionality on a console that hardly anyone owns. Not the hype/toy/gotta have 'em factor. This fucking forum.
-
Yeah, amiibo really need to have more worth. Nobody is buying the fucking things and Nintendo have loads of stock to clear.
-
Tosh. The content is made during development of the game, using the staff that should be assigned to making the full game that everyone gets. It's impossible to differentiate from the content that you get without amiibo, and in no way can you say it would have been impossible for them to provide that content unless that extra bit of money funded them to do so. TL;DR - they could easily provide that content to everyone. And in a game where many people have said content is a little thin on the ground, it would probably have been quite well received.
-
Actually you can. Don't make anything on the disc of ordinary games locked to amiibo. And make a separate game or freeware app, specific to amiibo, a la Skylanders.
