Ahhh damn, might miss you then I'm jumping on now...or at least I would be if I was being hit with updates!
-
I know I know :p I've had a weekly tabletop spring up a little while back, and I work some evenings after my day job plus trying to fit other things in too - it all adds up quite quickly! Having said that what time you thinking you'll be on Tuesday? I'll be working til 9 probs be home and could be on by about half 9 though...

Not sure it's a 'random' thread or that we had outlawed such things! ShopTo were once fucking kings, and their video of the 5 minute packing and the picture they used to send and the fact you got games early in conjunction with the fact they were beating most other retailers(online or not) used to make them the absolute defacto go to for myself. But, as said, they've changed and more annoyingly their prices just aren't seeming too competitive. I don't know if it's because they've gotten too big and have larger overheads, or just felt that their service warranted them charging a bit of a premium, but it's been a long time since I've bought anything from them now. Tbh I buy less these days and will generally just opt for whoever's cheapest when it comes to buying brand new - but tbh I avoid brand new often now in favour of the cheaper pre-owned options. Will usually go to CEX or the like, eBay or as has been the case a few times recently, buy off of people here instead! Was tempted to move it over there, especially with the recent thread about the value of a game. Any objections from anyone? Did think it might get a bit more of a viewing here, especially for people a bit like ReZ who might not pop down there as much if they've fallen off gaming a bit.

I'm sure the conversation came up before - but(jokes aside) how young would people say is too young? Classic half your age plus 7? I'm pretty sure someone's kinda into me, but there's a fair bit of an age gap that's bugging me, plus a whole other issue in that I know some of her family quite well. I'm currently stuck thinking what a terrible idea it is, but also there's the whole less logical side of it all too :p

Sorry for being rubbish again guys! Got engrossed in Harry Potter and was out last night then into some prompt impromptu work today. Running thin on evenings for this week too -.- Might just try jumping on from time to time and seeing if anyone's on or posting here if I do.
-
Sorry guys! Didn't see anything so told my mate he could pop over. Sat or Sun day or an eve next week?
-
Any chance of @DuD or anyone else on tonight? I've been feeling a bit unwell and not about for past week so haven't joined, and got a mountain of housework to get done buuuut....I can put it off if we're gonna Splatoon a bit :p Quote/mention me with a time if anyone's on - I'm not fully committed yet but will do my best to be about if others are. Wouldn't mind a pre-map change and post-map change - is it still at 7pm UK time? If so I'll try and be about round half 6ish. Btw I haven't played 'properly' since the good ol' days last summer, and I'm used to twin sticking Destiny etc. so I'm gonna be pretty remarkably shit for the first part. Might start out with a roller or something less conventional than guns just to ease back in. What do all the cool kids seem to be using these days?

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
Rummy replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Quite nice for TP and a nice little cash injection for Ninty if it's the same globally. Still - is it a sign of the WiiU and Nintendo's state? What percentage of WiiU owners probably bought TP, given I know at least a few here who didn't plan to? Even 3DS limited to Pokemon titles, ORAS have been out since Nov '14! Not a single other Wii U title in the individual formats. TP aside, Just Dance on Wii is beating anything else there is on the WiiU!! Minecraft aside, three 360 and one PS3 title in there beating anything else on WiiU. Fifa, Lego, CoD. I find it interesting there's more 360 in there than PS3 - probably a refelction of the large amount of PS4 migration this gen. The placing for TP is great, though I suspect it'll have a sharp fall off, but that chart as a whole does not make me feel particularly inspired for Nintendo's current state of affairs. -
Interesting topic indeed. As a man who loves his money, and his amateur armchair economics, I find it very interesting! My personal feeling - I rarely buy a game over £30 since say the N64/GC/Wii Era. That's like the starting mark for me. Lowered prices were helped on a lot by the early mail order companies, and then later by online companies - interestingly enough there's the ShopTo topic in General and they were imo once go-to kings of the online retailers but that's really changed now - nonetheless they did some huge work in both the lowering of cost but also the swiftness of delivery. Why would I pay £40+ for a game that I could order from the luxury of my home, with 1-2 delivery, for £5-10+ less? I wouldn't. The only 'cost' there is the timeframe. But that is a cost, that can factor into value. Do you get more off a game that's hype and everyone's talking about if you have it at the same time? To engage in that shared 'first' experience? For some that matters - for me it does, but only with a specific thing in mind(compared to the saving of getting it later, that is) - and that's online functionality. I bought Halo 4 pretty quick on release and a whim after a discussion with a mate at work. Cost from ShopTo something like £37, had it within a day, and didn't regret it. I got a lot of hours out of it - at least around 40 if not even more(can't check stats, and forget if it was 40 per Halo 4/Reach, or 80 each) - but I wouldn't have had I not bought it at the time and played a notable part of it online with my mates. These days many people bask in the glory of the 'firsts' due to the easier sharing of media for new games such as video clips, lets plays, more in depth reviews etc. Now that 40+ for Halo 4 certainly wasn't a bad number of hours - which is the other argument made. Time/price per hour is a very sensible economic way to evaluate something for me. However as Flink mentions some people might get certain amounts more than others out of certain games - definitely more prominent in the more modern age of online games where it isn't a fixed quest/story for all. However I then find it difficult, if I've had a game that gave me so many hours for so much cost, to then stretch myself to a game that's going to give me a lesser amount of gameplay/time per hour. Having said that, I paid like £4 for Terraria on PC, and got at least 200 hours out of it. If I consider the cheapness of the title(£4 is much more 'throwaway' than £40) I wouldn't compare everything to that exceptional level of 'value' however. I think anything over £15 will start to draw time value comparisons, a problem no doubt affecting No Man's Sky. Coming back to absolute cost I'll be honest - I know how much less I play videogames these days, and thus feel reluctant to spend £40 on a game I won't play much or entirely for many months/a year, when I could just allow that time it sits gathering dust on the shelf and instead buy it later on for a much cheaper price. I still even have many games for a few consoles now I've never played. I don't like to pay more than £20-25 at most if I can help it for a game I want around about there and then, regardless whether brand new or second hand(brand new giving a small edge to value over second hand, but still small depending on the saving). The only few times I'll buy games I don't have immediate intention of playing is if it's a bulk/good value deal, or a game I'm worried will stop print. Pandora's Tower and The Last Story were examples of this - yet stupidly I've still never played the bloody things; bringing me back to my opening point here - I game much less than I would have otherwise. However moving on to maybe more the supply side of things - one thing I've found interesting for a long time is that of digital distribution and things like Steam. Given that, as this thread probably shows, value of certain games varies between people and that the Steam sales seem to do so well of sorts(and let's be honest, who hasn't got at least 10-20 Steam games they've bought but haven't played for more than hour yet) - I'm surprised the console side haven't embraced this sale model more to adjust to the supply/demand of the games and the value/cost people are willing to pay. Without it, it's no sale, with it - it's still maybe a bit more revenue which has in effect cost very little to manufacture(the extra copy of the game bought, that is). Value's flexible, and to adjust your marketplace to that is incredibly sensible, imo. 500 more sales at 50% that you wouldn't have gotten otherwise is as good as 250 sales you never would have gotten, and money's money. ----------------------------------------------------------------- I've broken my post to separate this point from those above - that of remakes. I think by their nature being content that was previously developed/released - their value can vary highly depending on amount of effort put into the title and the perceived effort of them being 'less' work. There's also the idea of modernisation/update of a classicly held game that invokes nostalgia. I bought both OoT+3DS and later MM at maybe around ~£30 a piece per game because I loved them so much as a youth. I only bought Mario Kart 8 @ £30 because I could get WWHD with it however - I wasn't prepared to pay as much for a remake of a much more recent game. Even more so - TP(which interestingly has shot into No2 in the UK charts) just did not do enough with itself to justify my spending the higher asking price of it, especially being a more recent game with what I personally see as not enough work/improvement in it. Personal opinion, but I don't think I'll often find a remake even with updating to be equivalent to a modern day price similar to that of its original release.

Wooop! Sadly I'm out/working this weekend, but I might manage an evening in the week with a bit of notice - anyone else interested?

Can't believe it's almost 2am. Was planning to play some with my mate at 10 for ranked doubles, he was like...2 fucking hours late and we were just gonna have a couple of games. Started with some 3v3 unranked, then he mixed it up to some 2v2 unranked. We played a few games and realised it was the same two sticking with us, and we came to think we'd stick with them too! Just some really enjoyable/moreish matches. They tended to do better on the bigger arenas, us on the small, and after an early lead of 7-1 to them in one match when I was just losing my shit and focus we came back to 7-4...then thrashed them 9-1 in the next match! A rivalry was born! Kept taking a match each(us, them, us, them, us, them) and it was so damn moreish! But yeah. Longer story short...I spent far too much time playing RL tonight, can't believe I ever hesitated on paying ~£15 for this game. Whilst waiting I also did some single player which I only touched briefly before - whereas I was terribly shit before all my online playing seems to have improved my skills and despite the crappy AI won all the single-player matches I got through this evening. But yeah. Essentially played like 3-4 hours of Rocket League this evening and possibly gonna regret it tmw but damn this game still holds itself very well. Deserved its GOTY bits and all other relevant similar things.

How much was the bundle btw? Just curious as haven't followed prices much since last year.
-
I fear for your poor pad :p Nonetheless, welcome to the club - hope you'll enjoy it (p.s add me too! Rumdumcious!)

Yeah those are both top things - whilst I could live without them I was initially irked with the PS4 that it didn't seem to have an appear offline option as the 360 did, as sometimes I wanna just jump on and play something without invites or notifications bothering me - I always feel a bit of a dick when someone wants to play or chat and I'm just like 'oh sorry, not on for long!' then end up playing Rocket League for another 10 hours or something silly. PC/Mac stream sounds incredibly intriguing though! Does it mean streaming anything, like the PSVita/PSTV or at a different sort of functionality? I can really see that blowing things open depending how well it all works - I'd set a PC up in my room just for that alone if it's good enough! I'd like it if it's implemented with a selectable list of friends for exactly that reason. There's a few people I'll play certain things with or just gas with whilst I'm online - it's nice if I can see a notification when these folks come online rather than everyone.

Ban coming your way in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... Personally, tho maybe I'm a bit biased, I feel things got slightly better after this thread. There's been some slippage, but we're naturally still keeping an eye on things, and I'm glad to hear some of you are finding it better here, even if it's just lately. We've had a new faces around it all, and that's been quite nice too! Putting everything else aside, we're all in this together as a community, and I've felt like that's been the case a bit more in recent times too

I can finally do more foruming than work without needing to search for URLs! Thanks muchly for the top fix Ashley! I've missed that little bastard so much since he left us.
-
Did it ever come out on VC? I feel like it may have been something I could have done but I didn't agree with the pricing and refused on principle. Tbh I think my mate's probably got the old cart knocking about somewhere, should dig out the N64 and give it a go if so...

Pokemon Snap?! (*disclaimer I have actually never played pokemon snap)

I do believe you are free to join the clan! Think @Jimbob set it up and accepts new peeps. I am amazed to see that you didn't only reach your light levels on just one character, but all 3! You're definitely much better than me :p Thanks for the few games of IB last night @Sheikah and @mrmilagi, was fun despite my low scorings :p Heyho seemed to rather enjoy himself too, don't think he often crucibles much. We tackled the Nightfall after, it's the one with the Darkblade and that misty chamber downstairs which I usually really hate as a strike. However with its Small Arms buff it really made everything a lot faster! Probably one of the easiest Nightfalls I've done so far(where afterwards, RNGesus gave GUsher the good shit when me and heyho need it -.-). I did run out of primary ammo just before the boss though, and had to get a synth out of my vault - and I still can't recall where the fuck I originally managed to get primary ammo synths from in the first place!

To address your earlier thing about BC - I'm also in the camp in favour of dropping it. I think if they try to do with ZeldaU what they did with TP or put BC into their next console it's going to be a grave mistake. Both for alienating customers but also for restricting the system. As for VR - I think it's far too early, so no, not this year. It's still quite expensive, still quite new; it'll take a while for it to become more supported and more importantly cheaper in price and then into more hands and so forth. I'm not saying there's no demand, and there's a few people on here already interested/dabbling, but I think at the current price it's going to take a while to become commonplace enough to really matter. Nintendo should be aware of it and be considering it, but I don't think they should jump on it quite yet.

And to you too. As a few others have mentioned - N-E's a very special place, and as much as we're part of that for you, you're a part of that for us too. I can say, honestly, that through the years I always thought of you as a pretty top member of the community that is N-E. A community that is so close to my heart, even with its ups and downs, and I guess I just want to say a big thanks to you for that. It's absolutely gutting to hear that the cancer's terminal, especially after everything you've already been through with it, and you've been so strong throughout it all. It's hard to think what to say to such news really, but I do want to say that I'll miss you. As silly or strange as it sounds for some words from a stranger on the other end of a keyboard, I'll miss you. We all will. Thank you again for being here, MadDog. It's been a privilege and an honour.

Give us your best pitch for an NX game, then.
-
Best bit of the game for me. Totally made it all worth it. What didn't however was playing all of it with my mate who could quite possibly be shitter AI than Sheva.
-
Oh I agree with that, but it broke down before and I can see it happening here if Nintendo aren't willing to meet them somewhere in the middle. Right now it's them putting up terms, and it seems no negotiations or agreements have taken place yet - so for me it's basically just the early days of it all. I'm going to be much keener to hopefully hear the outcomes when they arrive. Misread what? I was/still am after a source for your assertions. It's convenient that when you apparently 'misread' or make a mistake you just decide to ignore people who ask for some actual sources. I'd still like one, because you make a number in your original post that I've not come across before. I don't want to have a fight or argument, I'd just like to know what you're basing it on so I can see for myself;
