I don't think it'd see a price drop - mostly because if its new manufacture yes it will be cheaper but they'll need to recoup the cost of the earlier high manufacture and subsequent costs of keeping all that stock etc. I'm also not sure how much the price of manufacture would drop over time for the WiiU, as I think it's more proprietary of sorts than the XBone or PS4 which has been said to use more off-the-shelf sort of parts, which will fall faster than custom parts. I'm sure someone out there is more knowledgeable than me - I have a feeling I might even be wrong tbh! I know right! Was wondering whether to give it its own thread for some new AC discussion, but wondered if it might end up too NX heavy and pull up the same discussions that seem to recur a lot. I was really impressed with the level of work he'd put in though - doesn't even seem like a cheap mockup, his level of detail is good enough for it to be the real thing for me! Did get me wondering if a launch AC could be a good idea - it'd certainly get people on their system regularly due to the real-time nature of AC. I haven't had much time to look into whether he's done/is going more stuff, but think he's definitely going to be someone to keep an eye on if so!

Y'kno what still really bugs me about Pikmin 3? The lack of quirky treasures dammit! Replacing them with fruits that were also repeated just felt so pathetic a cop-out for me. Tiny, but actually really did bother me. Anyhow! I've had a tab open in my browser for weeks, maybe even since last year, and didn't really know where to stick it so I'm sticking it here! It's a Kotaku article from just before christmas, but it's basically just highlighting a video of some AC mockup a guy made... Probs been posted somewhere before, but I couldn't find it on a quick glance.

As Eddage said - I'm not sure where you got that 4 year life cycle from when it'll get that for this Christmas. Is 4 years too short to consider it a 'bailing out'? Why can't they still provide support to WiiU alongside NX, too? As for NX though I personally think they need to play it a bit safe in some respects as I've mentioned, but you raise the point of something Nintendo has - and that's great content. Their sales are huge, although on arguably tired franchises, but huge nonetheless. Whilst you can say in one breath hardware sales are poor but software sales are great - it identifies the weakness they have in terms of hardware sales. Imagine if they managed to get that and the install base up - how much more software sales would we see?! What if we saw more great new franchises like Splatoon?? It doesn't have to be all or nothing, and whilst some profit is essentially fine - more profit is better! For them and for us! I can kinda feel that though myself. The more time passes the more I a.) worry and b.) lose interest. Whilst I definitely have concerns about the NX, as time goes on they seem to swell and become more and more, and I feel increasingly that we'll see a repeat of silly choices and it will totally put me off. I don't want it to happen, and it still breaks my heart a little that I potentially won't be buying a Nintendo system, but I'm getting increasingly worried that it will turn out to be the actual case

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
Rummy replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Might be a slow burner. I must admit I don't know much about it myself though the brief bits I've seen have been attractive - just not sure I'd get it without further research. I look at some of those top 10s/20s and wonder if I'm falling out of gaming - very little actually feels like stuff I want to buy. There also seems such a wealth of content on PS4 right now that I end up stuck and not buying anything! Really need to start attacking my backlog maybe! Sad to see the state of affairs for Wii U, and slightly intrigued by that rogue Terraria 360 at number 38 in the all formats - just curious as to where it came from! -
Ahhh, should have known I could rely on you Dcubed! Completely agree with you on the last too - the people there for the launch will probably be happy paying the price, and then other SKUs(inc potentially cheaper) can be made and released a little while after depending on initial success.
-
Happy birthday Ashley! How are/did you celebrate??
-
For me, I hope they don't do multiple SKUs at launch. It can cause confusion and fracture, and leads to more potential room for error/issues in stocking(thinking one or other to be more/less popular than it will be on what is essentially an unknown product). Planning the SKUs for manufacture and later release dependant on the console's movement would be more sensible, imo. Whilst I have little to back it up, I still believe they overmanufactured WiiUs expecting much greater demand, and there will have been costs associated with that, compounded by the two models. Similarly as above - storage I think they need to go with some sensible, standard, and upgradeable. So essentially a replaceable laptop hard drive. Upgradeable gives them future proofing. Standard and sensible gives accessibility. If you want to mix it up down the line, feel free - but for launch I really think they need to think about playing somewhat safe.
-
I find the first half at odds with the last - if we consider success to be sales, then I'm pretty sure I can name you at least 5 if not more people here who would instantly decide not to buy the system without voice chat and decent online. No, it won't be the sole factor, but I honestly do believe it will be a negative dealbreaker for many maybes. Whilst, of course, it could be argued we're a niche and non-representative forum of the greater population, I'm not inclined to fully go with that.

This Lady Turns 31 Today...What Happens Next Will Shock You!
Rummy replied to Fierce_LiNk's topic in General Chit Chat
Happy birthday Eenuh! Hope you guys have a lovely time celebrating -
Daaaaaaaaamn. Thanks for the clarification though! I remember being all excited at all the 310s I was getting on my Titan, guess it turns out that luck was gonna balance out :p Best go see Xur for some more coins today methinks!
-
Aha! When you say 'between' does that include being 300, or is it 301+? I got quite a few 310 rollouts on my titan around ~306light, but as I said I've done maybe 8 or 9+ on my Warlock equipped to light level 300 and they've all been an annoying 290!! I was hoping using the Warlock would give me more chance of rolling out Warlock exotics, but if they're all gonna be 290 then it's kind of defeating the point! Tinternets seems to suggest the 310 chance even at 300 light...but my luck is really making me doubt it compared to that I had on my Titan!
-
That can't be right - I was getting 310s on my 306 titan!
-
Wanted to check with folks here - is the chance for an exotic 310 rollout at 300+ light or 301+?? Must have decoded about 8 or 9 on my warlock at 300 light but they've all annoyingly been 290, so wondering if maybe its at 301? Does the chance scale with increasing light level?

Whilst I'm not keen on too much of the alternative console/competition/ps4 debate here as I feel it draws focus more to itself than Nintendo's offerings - I would daresay that we'd have seen more sales on PS4 if it were there. I'm not advocating the whole 'Nintendo should go 3rd party' debate or aiming to encourage it - but I feel Splatoon is such a great game in itself that yeah, it would have done excellently and via the install base better on PS4. Add in on top of that the often raised criticism of voice chat and you've definitely got a winner as the PS4 system has a party chat system built in to its general OS than can transcend pretty much all games. Against the argument is that it's huge in Japan, but I still think it would have pulled a decent number of sales in the West that might actually have outweighed this. Again I'm not too keen to get bogged down with it - but how would you(or anyone else here) feel if someone decided to compare the sales of Mario and FIFA? Does nothing spring to mind on how ludicrous or irrelevant that might be? I would dare say a large majority of us are on the same page in regards to that: Nintendo still do some great things, as do others, but if they could all be brought together I think it would be nothing short of the best.

Wat! You mean it's out already!? Think I know what I'm doing next week... Damn! You got me excited! My local Cineworld's showing from 10th, bit gutting as I'm looking to do the meerkat movies but I guess if I ticket up in advance I might still manage to get seats...

Any new takers with the PS+ freeage? Downloaded and played a quick bit with @Frag Grimes and @Marcamillian the other night. Still very early days but given the co-op nature maybe we'll keep up with it a bit - if you see me on and fancy some just send me a PSN message! Not sure my impressions so far. Seems an interesting concept and does remind me of Magicka a bit(a comparison Frag made, and told me it's apparently from the same guys) in its sort of co-op implementation - we haven't been particularly challenged(though certainly died on easy bits) so far however so not sure I can make a good enough judgement on it yet.
-
Why the special ammo change for 3v3? Not that I play 3v3 very often(only really Salvage on the dailies) but if both teams are starting with special then I don't see it being much of a balance issue? Unless it's to work the spawns into more of a strategic point or something.
-
Keep meaning to mention this to@Marcamillian seeing as I probably won't get it any time soon - reckon it might be quite up his street!

Whilst Nintendo make a great effort on their backwards compatibility front (which can be argued to be to of benefit or detriment depending who you ask and how they go forward) there does certainly seem to be noted occasions of them suffering with legacy features. I don't believe they plan or think short-term, but when you hear about services and apps being discontinued it doesn't look great to me. I can't think of much that can be considered similarly from competitors, however. Just give her your 3DS to go out with and she can maybe net you some free streetpasses in the process too :p? Sales and amusement aspect aside - I'm with Flink in that I honestly couldn't think of two more different games. Admittedly I've not even touched or know much about Bloodborne, but I have very little interest in what is apparently a rather bastard hard masochistic game with huge difficulty spikes - but I find it quite amusing myself seeing it for some bizarre reason being compared to something as light-hearted, open, and accessible as Splatoon! The latter of which definitely deserves its numbers btw, I just hope Nintendo find a way to capitalise further on its success going forwards in a positive way. In Retro's defense, I think his point was more about time and place, and the loaded history associated with different parts of the boards. I won't re-tread old ground with it, but I can see where he's coming from. Personally, I think the takeaway point from it is that Splatoon has done fantastically for a new IP, and I think it's really well deserved - just hope they manage to find a way to capitalise on it well. I think it was HoT who suggested in the Sales thread maybe attempting something like a tie-in anime(if it could work) which I think is a great idea - my friend in Japan was recently telling me how huge it is over there, and if they could somehow try and spill over and extend that hype further in the West then I'd personally think it excellent!
-
Saw H-o-T's posts about it in the PS4 general thread - certainly seems an interesting concept and idea, but I'm still terrible with new games(especially ones that require some actual mental effort on my part) plus buying other stuff so gonna stick it on the imaginary 'one day' list.

It's because I can't be arsed bob. I just can't be arsed.

This isn't really PS4 specific but it's most applicable to me for PS4 really. I every once in a while wish for a very basic, yet very lazy(for me), feature of this nice new modern console. Seeing as the PS4, and I presume the Xbox One too, all download games to the hard drive and don't actually use the disc for anything other than verification - I wish I didn't have to swap discs as much. I know. It's super lazy. Get up, press a button, swap disc, sit down and play. Barely any effort really. Unless you're a disc-box shuffler like me, but even then it isn't heavily tiresome. Like...I wish for every time you put a disc in you could get another 5 boots of that game without the disc or so. I realise that one obvious solution for this is to go digital on purchases, but I'm more against that than I am being lazy(see Josh64's excellent How future-proof are modern games? in GGD). Is it just me? Am I that lazy? I have to actually admit there's been occasions where I've wanted a quick go of a game and genuinely because of having to get up and swap discs I've just played something that I've downloaded instead. I've actually avoided playing a game because I was too damn lazy to get up and swap discs. I think I have been thoroughly spoiled by modern media technology.

I believe it suffered a rather large flaw of being shit. Though I'm not very technical on these things so I could be mistaken. Consider also the facebook page! Usually @MoogleViper or @jayseven are pretty tip top on posting about it there - however I was half jokingly waiting this time for Moogle to post before I said anything myself. (I was also generally being not on tinternets, and the fact the forums have had intermittent issues over the last year or so that I recall I was expecting it might have been up again by time the weekend was over.) Top job on the speedy resolve @Shorty and co!

Ended up seeing The Danish Girl - I really enjoyed it and found it quite moving in places with excellent performances from both the leads - but I felt it started to drag a bit towards the end and sort of gave up caring. I maybe lost patience due to having a little sesh in the pub prior, though. This week I went and saw Creed. Glad to have seen @Goron_3's posted as I know he's a huge Rocky fan! Personally I only saw Rocky for the first time properly a few years ago, followed by II, III, most of IV and then Rocky Balboa sometime after it was out. Given that - I thought Creed was an excellent and faithful sequel for the series. Stallone and Michael B Jordan were both great, and even if it could be argued that lots of it wasn't terribly original, it still felt to me like it managed to somehow capture that magic of the earlier films with a slightly fresh twist. Of the four of us who went to see it, one has never seen any of the Rocky films and he quite enjoyed it - looking forward to showing him the original sometime soon to see how he compares it!
