  1. So really....nothing is "online out of the box" by that definition. The definition assumes a working internet connection, which no doubt will be stated on the box for any games with online functionality just like they have done for years. You'll also need electricity to power the machine and a monitor/TV of some kind to view the games - in case anyone was unaware.
  2. I would have thought it would make sense to have an online VC profile, rather than locking VC purchases to a physical machine. That way if your Wii breaks and you need to get a new one you just log in with your existing profile and download your games again. This is the way Valve's Steam system works on the PC and I'm very happy with it.
  3. As long as the Wii is on shop shelves on or by the PS3 release date that's all Nintendo need. The Wii needs to be there for people disappointed about not being able to get a PS3.
  4. I had considered just buying a Wireless access point and conntecting it to my router, another option. Basically I'm going to properly investigate once I know whether or not the DS can use the Wii to get an internet connection and play Wi-fi DS games. That way I might just get the USB ethernet adaptor for the Wii and have it connected by ethernet.
  5. I call it Being Fair. Nintendo have been mucking their fans around lately, they did great at E3 but really need to get their collective asses in gear and reassure us that we're not backing the wrong horse.
  6. I'd get that (the Wi-fi USB key) - I just don't know if I want to have my Wii unable to go online if my PC breaks down on me. If I get a wireless router it will be a decent one, and certainly not one of the common ones that only supports 4 wireless devices. Since I live in a small flat there's no need for the desktop PCs to be wireless but a DS/Wii make two devices already, adding up if either myself or my flatmate buy a 360/PS3.
  7. Where did you get this idea? I know lots of people with routers and certainly wouldn't say that most of them are wireless. Admittedly places like PC World are pushing wireless networks but that's just so they can sell you wireless network cards for all your PCs. I don't have a wireless router, but if I'll have to buy an adaptor for my Wii from Nintendo to use an ethernet connection that might be enough to convince me to upgrade my router.
  8. You are indeed correct - I wasn't certain so I checked at work and it is indeed wired. However, if any Wii games employ VoIP then Nintendo need to make a wireless headset. Wired stuff is so last generation.
  9. There's a wireless headset for the DS so I don't see why one couldn't be made for the Wii.
  10. I'd suggest picking up Metroid Prime cheap somewhere. I just beat this game and I was very impressed - an FPS that actually plays to the strengths of a console instead of feeling limited by them!
  11. I hope they don't go down the numberous-costume route. I'm not a fan of clones either, unless they have significantly different moves/animations in which case they're not exactly clones. I would imagine that Varia Suit Samus will indeed be in the game, along with Zero Suit Samus.
  12. ShadowV7, it's like you took the words right out of my mouth
  13. Oh wasn't disputing that. Anything with Sam Fisher-esque bunnies gets me interested.
  14. I've done it myself, it's called optimisation. Let's face it, Nintendo's 3rd-party friends are clearly working really hard to get games ready for Wii launch, so I'd say it's very likely that they will only reach code-complete a month or so before launch. That last month will be spent getting rid of final bugs and optimising for performance. I think Nintendo basically didn't get dev kits out early enough (though I know they were pretty good with it compared with Sony), since Mario Galaxy looks fantastic and was already in a playable state a couple of months ago.
  15. They're obviously just going for a different type of game featuring Rayman. A whole load of minigames gives the developers lots of different ways to use the Wiimote, that way once they've finished this one game they have lots of experience with what works well and what doesn't. Their next Wii game should be even better.
  16. If the Wii has the best online service I will eat my hat. Being excited about the controller and the games is one thing, expecting Nintendo to throw away Friends Codes and manage to create something better than Xbox Live in one year is ridiculous.
  17. Wow...imagine thinking that retailers get games three months before they are released... Someone needs to actually get some info about the games industry.
  18. Because bad people touch themselves at night Mario Galaxy would improve the Wii launch a lot. I wonder if Nintendo have been silent about the launch date because there's a possiblity Galaxy might make it.
  19. It's been a while since online FPS have been limited to 4 players per server, this is a really big loss for Nintendo and the Wii.
  20. If Nintendo manage to make a decent online service without Friends Codes then this is for the best - otherwise it's a stupid move that will cost them.
  21. I disagree, having the Wii in stores in time for launch of the PS3 is very important. Think about it: no one will actually be able to walk into a shop and buy a PS3 off the shelf - they'll all be pre-orders and there won't be many to go around anyway. Having the Wii out and on shelves could persuade disappointed consumers to pick up a Wii, either while they wait a few months to get a PS3 or just instead to see how they like it.
  22. They just can't leave it much longer. I refuse to get hyped up for it, but I think this September 14th event is the latest possible time they can announce the price/date and still get it out around the same time as PS3.
  23. Everything I've read, including quotes from a Microsoft spokesperson, say the exclusivity lasts 12 months. So according to that the PS3 will not have Fifa 07 or Pro Evo 6 until at least this time next year.
  24. Offtopic I know, but what did you mean by that?
  25. Anyone who is "mad or angry" at your post is a moron, let's get that straight first off. I have no idea why anyone would be, everything you said is sensible. Graphics do matter, not just to Joe Public but to Nintendo fans too. Some people act high and mighty and claim that they don't care about graphics but it's nothing to be ashamed of. Graphics are just one facet of games, claiming you don't care about them is like claiming you don't care about the gameplay, or the audio. Example: Darwinia on the PC. Amazing game that uses very simple shapes and has a very retro feel. However, the graphics are actually of a very high quality and feature many clever touches and graphical techniques. I too have been disappointed with some of the Wii footage I've seen so far, but as you said some of the games like Mario Galaxy look truly incredible.
