17.5%....isn't that also the level of VAT in the UK???? Coincidence? I think not! We are paying VAT on games in the form of slowdown! Nooooooooooo! Also, i can't see any way that they are going to make VC games online-enabled. They'd have to write all the online code from scratch and then it wouldn't be a simple job of emulation, they'd have to work the games to the Wii architecture.

Zelda: Twilight Princess Discussion (SPOILERS: BEWARE)
Kazzahdrane replied to EchoDesiato's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I want to see Ganon/Ganondorf in every game. Seriously. He's the only character I play in SSBM. -
I wouldn't expect to see any Wii pods before launch, maybe at launch or soon after (if at all - but I'm sure Nintendo realise that many people will want to "try before they buy" with the Wii). Could be wrong though, I'd love to get a chance to play a Wii before release! And I work in a games store so...playing Wii after hours before launch, awesome
-
Plus remember that developers are already profficient in programming for the Gamecube, so in theory the early Wii games should still look pretty good as the Wii shares many similarities with the GC.

Another good podcast guys, still listening through it (90 mins is so long...but y'know, some of it's worthwhile!). I have to make a request though, please find out what Nik was doing differently with his recording, as his voice was clean and crisp as opposed to the usual muffled recordings I've gotten used to on the Revo Europe podcasts. He was actually easier to understand than the native English speakers!

I just can't agree with this at all. Microsoft have found the right games (sometimes) and very importantly the right price point. People won't buy VC games with no thought to how old they are or how much they cost. Unless they are billionaires. Also, I really agree with the point in the article about the online play. I'm very worried that Nintendo will go with their idiot-friendly Friend Codes for every game and miss out on having a vibrant online community. It's good enough for the DS, but nowhere near good enough for a home console in this day and age. People have been spoiled by the sleek and functional Xbox Live Friends list - and anything less will make them ignore the Wii's online functions. This includes myself, I don't have time to phone round my friends and say "hey let's all play Smash Bros. tonight at 20:00!". That's a ridiculous way to "make playing games easier for everyone".

That is officially the best SMG idea I've read. That would be awesome. Retro is the new next-gen.
-
Yes, especially since at the moment you'll get a fair whack of the money you need for a Wii for your PSP. Gamestation's trade value for a Value Pack is £90 at the moment, that's at least 50% of the Wii price.
-
As a mature and intelligent gamer I don't have any interest in reading a magazine where every single article is a press release advertising Nintendo's latest game/hardware (however, in the interests of fair play I did read a few issues to see what the mag was like). NGamer impressed me as soon as they were big enough to admit that the Wii version of Z:TP has some serious control issues.

Luigi's Mansion Wii? and VC games bundled?
Kazzahdrane replied to Retro_Link's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Nintendo are great, but let's not start pretending they actually have any respect for their European customers. Plenty of classic games have never made it here to the EU and we're all familiar with how long it can take certain titles to cross the pond (WarioWare Twisted, Harvest Moon.....) Checked out the EU Stars Catalogue anytime recently? I'd love to see Nintendo changing this attitude with this generation. -
Luigi's Mansion Wii? and VC games bundled?
Kazzahdrane replied to Retro_Link's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Bundling VC games (or VC Credit or however they work the payment system) with games would be a great idea. Especially if they made it small like only the value of a NES game or something, but they would build up so if you cashed in the value of a few Wii games you could get an N64 game. The reason I suggest this is it would be a good way to get people to try the VC for no real cost to them, but if people really liked it they would buy more VC games (rather than just get a free one every few months) and make it more successful for Nintendo. Bundling stuff like a classic Metroid game with Metroid Prime 3 and one of the NES Mario games with Galaxy might be a good example if they wanted to bundle specific games rather than give an amount of credit or a game of the customer's choice. -
I feel insulted. Please stop being a biggot.

AFAIK nothing has been said about different colours since the picture from over a year ago that shows a few Wii's of different colours. That was back when it was the Revolution. Nintendo ALWAYS do this - show off different colours then just bring out one or two (or give them all to Japan :P). I'm anticipating just the white Wii being available at launch with possibly a new colour in 2007.
-
if it makes you feel better, you'll never pay that. Bundles, my friend! Find somewhere where you can specify the games in the bundle and you're ready to set sail for savings! There's a good chance a lot of retailers will do a "Zelda bundle" i.e. Wii and Z:TP + maybe one other Wii game for $320/$330.

Zelda: Twilight Princess Discussion (SPOILERS: BEWARE)
Kazzahdrane replied to EchoDesiato's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Except Mario Galaxy won't be released yet (unless the recent rumour is true about "anything" being "possible"). Any respectable reviewer won't take games that aren't out yet into account when reviewing something. So I would imagine that any reasons for Z:TP not getting 10/10 will be more related to gameplay and content - unless of course the other Wii launch titles totally blow it away in graphics and it fails to meet the "standard" that will have been set in a single day. -
Yes but Rogue Leader and Luigi's Mansion were launch titles, THEN SSBM came out as Goron_3 said. I agree with what people have been saying about Nintendo's inability to pace their games, and of course just giving up on the Gamecube after a few years. In recent memory I can think of Resi 4 and Animal Crossing as games that did well at retail. I really hope this doesn't happen with the Wii, although with the number of great-looking titles that are already in development I suspect I'll still get 5 or 6 awesome games out of it even if it didn't survive a year at retail.

I've thought for a while that game magazines are only worth reading for the quality of the writing, since these days news is so much quicker to appear on the internet. Edge and PC Gamer have always stood out to me as good magazines in this respect.
-
Actually I haven't bought it since the 2nd issue when I realised it was complete crap. I just have the opportunity to read issues where I work
-
I've been giving it some thought. I think I'll wait until I've read a couple more issues but I was very impressed with the honesty and informative writing in the first issue, as opposed to the awful writing in the issues of ONM I have read recently. The only thing that bothers me is that it isn't an official magazine so I wonder if they will be much later with news etc than ONM. It will also depend on what the subscription gift is a few months down the line.

It's still the wavebird for NGamer AFAIK.
-
It won't be for a while, but as soon as I know what bundles Gamestation will be doing on the Wii I'll post them here.
-
Well, I'll take your word for it. Which means you could be lying but now I will tell everyone I know what you said. And if you're lying I'll look like a damn fool. /hyperventilates at the prospect of getting Galaxy at launch. It's one of two Wii games I really really really want, and neither are expected at launch
-
I'm not picking on you, but I've noticed a lot of people saying they'll be buying at GAME and will get whatever deals they offer. I hope as educated intelligent Nintendo fans people here will be shopping around! I remember when the Xbox 360 came out and the GAME where I live got 10 consoles or so, and had them all bundled with the worst games at launch. And they wouldn't let you buy one with the games you wanted, even people who had put down pre-orders were made to buy games they didn't want because they got such small stock of each game and the popular ones (Perfect Dark etc) sold out really fast. Also the DS Lite was being sold for £99.99 everywhere on the high street (yes Asda and probably other supermarkets sold for a tenner less, but no trade-ins there!) but I believe Gamestation were the only people giving a free game with that £99.99, including Sonic Rush! /disclaimer - I am a Gamestation employee, but it does me no personal gain to big-up my place of work. I just honestly believe that our prices are much better than GAMEs across the board and that our deals for the Wii will at least be competitive with theirs if not significantly better. Gamestation have a much better working relationship with Nintendo than GAME do, I'm told by the almighty ones at Head Office - we get sent Nintendo t-shirts from them all the time. Oh, and we should let you buy the console on its own if all you want is maybe the Wii, one game and a classic controller for a Xmas of VC games! Also, don't forget about supermarkets and the like, especially if the Wii sells out where you live. They'll probably be cheaper hardware-wise than the highstreet stores.

Zelda: Twilight Princess Discussion (SPOILERS: BEWARE)
Kazzahdrane replied to EchoDesiato's topic in Nintendo Gaming
The new weapons will include the Decoy Tingle. Similar to the inflatable decoy dummies in MDK and Ratchet & Clank, these will instead be dummies of everyone's least-favourite guy-who-thinks-he's-an-elf-THING. Unfortunately, even thinking about using this weapon will reset your Wii console, and - thanks to Nintendo's WiiConnect 24 service - the Wii consoles of anyone you know.
