Switching the light on and off, if I had to guess?

Such a smart move for them to consolidate on this. They saw a massive gap in the market for release dates in H1, used their initiative in filling it up with a bunch of great exclusives, and are reaping the rewards. I’m actually very surprised that we haven’t heard of a similar reorganisation over at Xbox. The more PlayStation supports console exclusives in H1, the more difficult it’s going to be for Xbox to effectively break into that window with their own exclusives (likely targeted at a similar demongraphic) in the future.

Infinity War was originally scheduled to release in the States on May 4th, with many countries/territories (UK included) getting it a week earlier on April 27th (some places, like Australia and Sweden, get the film in the 25th iirc). This has been the situation with most - if not all? - MCU films to date. So, there was an awesome Twitter exchange to exhibit the remedy to that situation. The film is now coming to America on April 27th. Reasoning for this change seems twofold: • they don’t want the film ruined for fans who are having to wait a week longer than those situated elsewhere. • they don’t want the film to overlap too heavily with Deadpool 2 and Solo. Great PR stunt for Disney/Marvel. Only 56 days to go

The Brazilian national team’s doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, is saying that, in addition to a small fissure in his fifth matatarsal (which is what the media has been focusing their reports on), Neymar also has a major fracture to a bone in the middle of the foot.
-
Absolutely gutted to hear that Neymar’s likely got three months of recovery ahead of him after his surgery. It’s going to be a real shame if - once again - Brazil doesn’t live up to their billing at the World Cup because Neymar is out injured.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Switch will not receive any revisions this year (i.e. an XL or mini version), with Nintendo instead wanting to focus on more peripherals to make use of the Switch’s USB-C connectivity.

Awesome. And you’re absolutely right, Sony’s really bringing the heat to kick this year off; they seem to really be cementing H1 as their period of focus for exclusives after it worked so well for games like Horizon Zero Dawn and Persona 5 last year, with a focus on third party endeavours in the latter half of the year. They’re really crushing it, and this year is looking like it will shape up to be at least as great on paper as last year was for them. I’m getting very curious as to when we hear anything on the Spider-Man front now that we know this, because I can’t see them pushing it back to late in the year, because of: i) the massive list of gigantic third party games coming, ii) wanting to capitalise on that Infinity War hype, and iii) their official stance being that first-party exclusives announced to have a 2018 release date will all have arrived by E3 2018. I have figure that it’ll probably be slotting in some time between E3 and the end of August?

Still haven’t completed it myself, but I can’t wait to get back to it. First game I’ll be returning to this summer. I definitely think that there’s room for a sequel, if not two; I’d love to see how other different areas and cultures of the world turned out, like Eastern Asia or Western Europe (iirc, the land in Zero Dawn is based on Denver/Colorado). I’m very happy for Guerrilla. They took a huge risk in fundamentally changing the types of games that they made with HZD, which has paid off massively for them.

Horizon Zero Dawn has sold over 7.6 million units in its first year on sale (it’s the game’s 1 year anniversary today), according to the PlayStation Blog, which makes it the best-selling new first-party franchise launch title on PS4.

Destructoid gave Mulaka an 8/10, summarising that the game is an “impressive effort with a few noticeable problems holding it back. Won't astound everyone, but is worth your time and cash.” They specifically praise the game’s art style and music, and say that the game might just be what you’re looking for if you have an Okami-shaped itch to scratch. Their full review of the game can be found here.

Colorware are rereleasing their NES-inspired Joy-Cons, and are launching an NES-inspired Pro Controller. And they look pretty awesome. Downside: the pricing is a little absurd, with the Joy-Cons costing $199, and the Pro Controller costing $189.

Well, a trailer was shown at MAGIC 2018, and was supposed to go unseen by those not in attendance. However, two versions of the trailer have been posted online; the trailer below is something of a Frankenstein effort, cut and pieced together from those two different versions. It is an extended version of the Gamescom trailer, and showcases our first look at QTEs in this game.

Word is going around that the game has sold less than 5% of what MGSV sold in its first week...

Looks like Little Nightmares might be coming to Switch...

The Switch has sold over 1 million units in France as of last week.

Only really heard bad things about this game, which is good (in terms of “Screw Konami”) and bad (in terms of how it might reflect on the developers). Also found this quite amusing: “KJP [Kojima Productions] FOREVER” Anyway, I’m very interested in seeing how this game performs in terms of sales. Because, assuming that it does poorly - and we don’t see much from the Metal Gear franchise for a while - I wouldn’t be surprised to see Konami’s financials take a significant enough hit for them to consider selling some of their video game licenses (such a Silent Hill and Metal Gear) off, prior to a possible closure of their video gaming division. Assuming that Kojima continues to partner with Sony, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Sony foot up the bill to put these franchises back under Kojima’s control if that did end up happening. On the downside, we’re probably just shy of a decade of that being a remote possibility.

Four new images of the game were shared at MAGIC 2018. It’s definitely looking better and better with each new look that we get of the game! Also, might I suggest to the moderators that this thread be moved over to ‘Other Consoles’? Every time I come to update it, I always end up looking around for five minutes over there before I remember that it’s over in ‘General Gaming Discussion’. Just a friendly suggestion

Honestly forgot that World of Final Fantasy was a thing... That's an excellent suggestion, @Hero-of-Time. If I recall correctly, it sold extremely poorly (at least by Final Fantasy-designed-for-a-handheld standards), so that would be a very smart move for S-E to make. You should shoot them an email
-
Absolutely. The only downside I potentially see with bringing FF to Switch - at least to Switch owners and FF fans - is that S-E would be unlikely to bring a brand new entry into the core, roman numeral series, simply because they've shown that they want those games to exist on the most technologically advanced consoles on the market (I know this isn't what you were necessarily suggesting, H-o-T). Personally, I'd be just fine seeing VI and the earlier entries coming over with whatever Nintendo is doing in terms of Virtual Console. I could totally see something like Final Fantasy Tactics get a new series entry come to the Switch. On another note, though, perhaps Project Octopath Traveller is in fact a Final Fantasy spin-off game? I'd much rather it be a new IP (because it's visually very unique, and a style I'd love to see further evolved, or perhaps used in some potential remakes of other excellent S-E JRPGs seen on Nintendo consoles in years past...), but a simple name change to something like Final Fantasy: Octopath Traveller or Final Fantasy: The Paths of Eight would naturally garner much more attention than a brand new IP would.
