N-Europe Summer Multiplayer Extravaganza MMXVIII
Sméagol replied to Sméagol's topic in Nintendo Gaming
We still don't have a final date though. Tomorrow I'll get some (Pre-) orders in. I intend to get BlazBlue, but I don't know if I can get it on time. The game apparently isn't sold here, so I need to import it from Amazon.fr. Then again, I've never played a BlazBlue game, so even if I get it on time, going straight online may not be such a good idea. Hope to see some fellow n00bs? -
I am, despite the apparently procedurally generated maps. Pixel art looks great. But if I'm getting it, I'm getting the Switch version, so I have little else to say at this point.
-
Ah... Whoops. Thursday is the 31st.. I forgot I had already planned something. Ehh, make it next Thursday, unless I have something planned then as well.. That's actually where I'll be. I mean, I could potentially join when I'm on the train back.
-
Let's bump this?
-
No problem! And seriously, I'm in for Thursday. What was our usual time? 21:00 UK I believe? Or 21:15 to give @Glen-i some more time to handle MK League paperwork? Thursday Night Splatoon Battle 1] Sméagol 2] Glen-i 3] ? And a link to the Summer Extravaganza.
-
Sorry, that requires at least 7 games doesn't it? I think I'll go to bed. Too bad we couldn't get more 3 vs 3 going. I suggest getting together on Thursday after Mario Kart, like "back in the day". Also don't forget the Summer Extravaganza!

Change the maps please!

I've looked at some games, it seems there are already a few what I'd call "killer apps". Plus there's plenty of passive entertainment, which i suspect is relatively cheap to make. It's simple, the average person also needs to buy a playstation or a computer. It's just not simple enough for the average consumer to just try out. Existing Playstation owners aren't buying VR sets because they're probably not wowed enough because of a subpar experience. You have the likes of RE7 and Moss on the system. There's fun stuff out there as far as I'm aware. So it must be something else. The Switch sold well, but it only had Zelda at the start (pretty much). Look, you and I, we are enthousiasts. We are more critical, but also more open to new stuff. For the average consumer, the experience is just subpar. Nice for a one time gimmicky experience, but not to buy it themselves, it's just too cumbersome and sub-par. There's already relatively good stuff available on VR, but it's only going to really get going when the average consumer buys a set. We're not average consumers.

Oh sorry, it said 21:30 at first. Play a round without me first, I'll join you in 10 minutes.

No, the PSVR needs a Playstation, and as far as I'm aware it's not as good as an Oculus Rift, which means it doesn't provide an optimal experience yet. You also missed my point about the pricepoint. A VR standalone set needs to be 300 euros or something to gain mass apeal. At that point people can go into a store, buy a set, and be done with it. For them to buy it you don't need a killer app, you need a good demo. The killer apps will come when enough people have bought a VR set to keep the momentum going.

(as my avatar shows, I speak for both myself and @RedShell by the way)

Ah crap, I felt like doing something productive for a change.. But it's been too long. I'll join, but I'm a bit rusty as I haven't played in a long time, except for a few matches last Splatfest. And probably for one hour max.
-
No it's the technology. The Gameboy and DS are cheap standalone devices which are perfectly capable of doing what they set out to do. None of the "real" VR headsets are standalone, aren't cheap, and the experience hasn't reached a threshold yet where we can say it's good enough for mainstream use.
-
No it's exactly what's needed. I'm not really in the loop of current VR games offerings, but I suspect it's enough to keep early adopters happy (which everyone still is at this point, with VR still not being really mainstream) for the moment. The game flood will come when VR gets big, which is when VR gets mass appeal, which is when the VR experience is as smooth as it can be, and VR headsets can be bought for cheap and require no other hardware (i.e. not needing to be hooked up to a desktop or other machine). These are require further developments in technology. For mass-appeal you need all this: - a small comfortable headset - wireless - 100% smooth tracking - higher resolution and dpi - price of say, max 300 euros This al requires more processing, which you need to fit in the headset, as like I've already said, you can't hook it up to another device in order to get mass-appeal. Technology isn't there yet, not by a long a shot. Current technology is adequate for the novelty uses you currently see, but as far as I'm aware it's not quite there yet for hardcore gaming, let alone for general amusement for the masses.

Spoken like a true n00b. (Don't use it in multiplayer, it's frowned upon . Using Scorch however is pretty cool!)

I will do no such thing.

I'm looking on Youtube for Japanese videos specifcally. I get loads of non-Japanese videos with titles like Capcom ruined Resedent Evil 7 bla bla etc. They may very well have, but reserve final judgement until you've played a loacalized version maybe? Anyway, two Japanese videos which should be more representative: Notice the difference between the two, the first has a full network signal. Gameplay seems smooth. The game doesn't look to great though, but stream and Youtube compression will have a significant part in that.
-
It seems to be June, but not anything more specific than that.
-
Yeah, it's pretty much exactly as I expected. I don't like the gameplay, but I love the cutscenes. And unfortunately it really looks like a 3DS port (so maybe you can give those wiiu ports some slack now ). The cutscenes are the only reason I might get this, but if / when the gameplay gets hard, I doubt I can put up with it. Anyway, so many games I need to buy the coming weeks, so I'm not going to miss it.
-
it's probably worse than that, as I assume the game itself doesn't pause simply because you're having connection issues (or does it?). The next screen may very well be "You are dead". Anyway, those with a Japanese account can try for themselves, the game's available. Instructions for those who want to try it out (for free for 15 minutes): https://nintendoeverything.com/resident-evil-7-cloud-version-out-now-on-the-japanese-eshop-can-be-played-in-english/

Yeah it looks damn cool, but is a bit expensive for such a simple computer, not to mention sold out.. Then it's better to get a Raspberry and try do some useful stuff ;). In fact, I really should look into that sooner rather than later. As for retro computers, as cool as I think that new Spectrum is, being Dutch, I'd prefer an MSX. The Spectrum was never as popular over here as it was in the UK, as far as I'm aware, and vice versa for the MSX. While I didn't have them myself, I've played on Ataris, Commodores, Amigas, and MSX's. ZX Spectrums didn't exist in my childhood. Of those four mentioned, I had the most experience with the MSX, as that's what we had in my elementary school, where I'd play Monkey Academy. I was waiting for this damn thing for an eternity, but it never came.

I can not find an English subtitled trailer. For those who (learning to) speak Italian ( @Ashley ) (or Dutch): If you don't speak Italian (or Dutch), then simply know this is an Italian film based on a short American show called The booth at the end, which I thought was fantastic, and is entirely in English obviously, so check that out. It's a short show, 10 short episodes, and all about different people visiting a man at the booth at the end of a diner, all wanting some wish to be fulfilled. The man gives them a task in order to accomplish that, with tasks varying from the mundane to truly horrible.

In other words: "first dibs on hot new students"

Are you calling me sexist? Depending on what you'd what to want to do besides programming within Petit Computer, you may be better off with something else. There's very little practical use for Basic (and varieties) nowadays. If you fancy buying a new ZX Spectrum (or some other old / new retro computer) for example, you could make games for that and be part of that community. If all you want is a new hobby project on your Switch (and potentially lead you to learn more useful programming languages later on), than this is probably perfect.

Yeah but mine is clearly more manly.
