Join us, join us in the "let's load MonHun quicker" club! It is a nifty little upgrade, things booting up nice and quick, running games like Hyrule Warriors well, SNES VC, etc.

Right, @Hero\-of\-Time, I've opened a room now if you're ready to join in. Hub ID is 16-6044-2565-1083 Passcode is 4444

Now here's a neat little thing I discovered just now when starting up Explorers of Sky and resetting to try and get a Charmander. You must have JavaScript enabled on your device to view Miiverse posts that have been embedded in a website. View post in Miiverse I've gotta admit, I'm a little impressed that Ninty bothered to implement a workaround for games that use the DS menu colour. Nice foresight there.

Right, @S\.C\.G and @Hero\-of\-Time if either of you are interested at helping at 5:30? There's plenty of Sacred Hyrulean Relics to go around.

Wow, that's impressive! I thought getting two was crazy. It helps that the Duo Arts are some of the most entertaining moves as well. My favourite one is... -
That's because he opened a local room, the numpty! EDIT: Anyway, we're still in the room if anyone wants to join in.

@Dcubed and I were able to try the Challenge Mode, thanks to Multiplayer access. The full game lets you do it solo. Basically, it's a co-op mode where up to 4 people (Single card download play is supported in the full game) play the same song and with slightly altered rules. This could range from simply getting a high average score, not missing a beat a certain amount of times or using perfect beats to help your screen run away from a monster that wants to eat it for some bizarre reason. The tempo can change as well. There's two other rhythm games there, Karate Man and a new game based on a Chameleon. That Chameleon game had us both laughing our heads off when it starts trying to distract you. It gets pretty mental! Music is hilarious too.

Well, I need that Link Set with the Master Sword. I miss having it. And @Ugh_First_Aid wants that Strider Dual Blade. And @Dcubed wants to get in the way and make a big mess. And I happen to be available this weekend. So, you free tonight? What time?

That amiibo is too much man. I can't take all the derpy cuteness. I still need to get me a Blue Yarn Yoshi... I do most certainly want to see animated shorts though.
-
EDIT: No-one actually knows though. The consesnus being that it looks like it has something to do with Streetpass Quest, maybe. If this is a bigger retail version of Streetpass Quest (And that's a very bif if), I'd be all over that.

Nintendo Direct (3DS Only) - September 1st - 15:00
Glen-i replied to Serebii's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Yes I was! Yep, just saw it. My heart sank a bit at first with seeing the Sand Rod, but then suddenly, Portal Train! Makes absolutely no sense and I love it. Totally makes up for Linebeck getting snubbed. It was a very nice direct, even if Mario Maker 3DS loses a lot of the point and I do worry that Yoshi's Woolly World won't look anywhere near as beautiful without the HD-ness. But if more people play it then, good. At least the 3DS will have a great Yoshi game. -
You know, Hyrule Warriors has shown me that maybe the Pegasus Boots could be used for more than just running. It revolves around using the extra speed your legs get to do all sorts of kicking combos. It's quite inspired. Not trying to make a point for this conversation here really, just wanted to point it out.

Nintendo Direct (3DS Only) - September 1st - 15:00

Yes sir! Crossing my fingers for Toon Link's new weapon to be Spirit Train related. If they can make weapons out of Horses, Sails and Portals powered by dancing, I don't see why not. (Is it sad that that's the thing I'm most eager to see in this direct?) Won't be able to watch it though, so I'll just catch up later. -
Does it not? Huh... I never would have noticed. Thanks for telling me.

Animal Crossing is such a weird franchise in that a lot of the older ones just become redundant whenever the newest one comes out. Don't get me wrong, they're still good games. But every time I go back to a previous entry, I just keep finding myself thinking, "Oh yeah, that feature was after this one" and it feels very dated. Pretty much agree with @Rummy on this one. I do hope Virtual Console games you bought on the WiiU/3DS carry over somehow though. Even if I still would buy EarthBound again like a chump.

I've think we've all accepted that Will is some kind of robot from the future designed to be ridiculously good at Mario Kart. ...What do you mean, you haven't? See, this is how it all ends, they've got you right where they want you! If the "I'm using Motion Controls" highlight video is anything to go by, no, I wouldn't have. Then again, if everyone used Motion Controls instead, I might have pulled it off. Think I might go watch that again.

Nintendo Direct (3DS Only) - September 1st - 15:00
Glen-i replied to Serebii's topic in Nintendo Gaming
People who are really scared that the NX won't be backwards compatible? Couldn't help myself... Sorry. -
3DS, duh, it can still play all the DS games! OK, fine. But I honestly can't decide. They're both stellar consoles for different reasons. So I'm just gonna do top 10's. And also, just for kicks, the moment that makes the best use of the hardware. DS 10. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks - Yeah, that's right, this game rocks. It fixed pretty much everything I hate about Phantom Hourglass. Also has the best Zelda Overworld theme to date. And trains! 9. Kirby Super Star Ultra - Take one of the most well-love Kirby games and almost double it's repertoire. Introduced the concept of having a second boss rush that is typically ludicrously hard. 8. Rhythm Heaven - It's got Lockstep, the most visually spectacular rhythm based game I've ever played. That's all I need. 7. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies - Still the only non-spin-off Dragon Quest game I completed (Plan on fixing that very soon). I liked the sheer amount of customisation this game offered. 6. Chrono Trigger - It's Chrono Trigger, do I really need to explain why? I mean, the fact that a port gets on to my list should speak volumes. 5. Pokemon Black/White - It's got the best Pokemon designs, a story that actually manages to be somewhat interesting, and the ending is just so god damn good! X/Y just looked embarrassing after this. 4. Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors - Better known as 999, it's one hell of a visual novel, that given a little bit of patience, can blow your mind and leave you wanting more. 3. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - If you've never tried a Mario & Luigi game, this is the one I would recommend picking up first. It cemented my favourite RPG battle system, and also you get to play as the King of Awesome himself, what more could you want? Oh fine, it's also one of the best looking DS games ever. 2. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective - Honestly one of the cleverest games I've ever seen. The story is engaging, the gameplay is inspired, the visuals are brilliant. Definitely the DS's most underrated game, that's for sure. It really deserved to have sold better than it did. 1. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky - OK, yeah, you saw that one coming. I mean, it was my favourite game ever for over 5 years, of course it had to be on top! Surprisingly deep story, gameplay that I adore and that soundtrack. DAT SOUNDTRACK! The best use of the DS was definitely Another Code: Two Memories. If you've played it, you should know which bit I was talking about. A puzzle so good that Zelda nicked it. 3DS 10. Shovel Knight - I'm not a massive fan of old school Mega Man. But it didn't stop this game from digging it's way into my list. Tight controls and a soundtrack for the ages. 9. Virtue's Last Reward - The sequel to 999, with one of the most ridiculous, yet brilliant twists I've seen recently. I actually prefer this to 999 and ZTD. Mostly because of the puzzles and those twists. 8. Puzzle & Dragons Z - The best 3DS game that N-Europe never played, well, except me. Worst thing about that is some people here bought it, only played the vastly inferior Mario version and then dropped it. For shame... 7. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call - It's a solid Rhythm game with a staggering 221(!) songs and another 100(!!!) to choose from via DLC. That DLC also includes lovely little spin-off soundtracks like Chrono Trigger, Bravely Default and Nier. The RPG elements help to make this game even better than it already is. 6. Bravely Second - A fantastic sequel to Bravely Default that knows that the battle system was pretty much perfect and left it as is. Instead, this game provides more QoL features, making it an utter joy to play. 5. Monster Hunter Generations - Yeah, it's similar to 4 Ultimate, but it just keeps dragging me back in. Maybe I'll actually do every quest this time? Hey, it could happen. 4. Hyrule Warriors Legends - If there's one game that keeps my 3DS on, it's this. It just keeps giving and I can't get enough of it. Seriously, you can play as Marin and the King of Red Lions! Surely, every Zelda fan's dream? 3. Super Smash Bros. - You just can't beat a bit of SMAAAASH! My favourite character is still Lucas, but with the sheer amount of characters, you'll find me just booting this up and picking a few characters at random just for the hell of it. 2. Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros. - While Bowser's Inside Story is the one I would recommend to a M&L first-timer, Paper Jam Bros. is the one for if you want to get a real good challenge out of it's brilliant battle system. One day I'll "S Rank" that optional superboss... One day... 1. Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon - The game that ended Explorers of Sky's 5-year run as my favourite game. It corrected all the missteps Gates to Infinity made and produced one hell of a challenging Pokemon game. Seriously, put your man pants on for this one. Because not even Overpowered Kecleon can guarantee you get through this one intact! Best usage of the 3DS has to be Bravely Default. I'll put this one in spoilers.

Nope, I'm just not a fan of First Person Shooters, precisely because of the dual analogue controls. I mean, to be frank, I suck at Perfect Dark even on the N64. Now this is an interesting point. I never found myself with that kind of problem. Obviously, it differs from person to person, but I find the majority of motion controls second nature (Granted that they're implemented well). It feels reactive enough for me. But maybe I'm some kind of weird bloke who can play Skyward Sword without ever getting frustrated because the Sword won't swing the way I want. In regards to the bolded, you say that tech isn't advanced enough to be an effective method yet. Then how could it possibly be improved upon if it flat out gets dropped? It's the point I was originally trying to make. Dropping motion controls completely would be a step backwards. There are things you just can't do with a controller, no matter how many buttons and sticks you shove on it.

Because people really want to play Dragon Quest? -
I still don't buy that, I can hit things from a ridiculous distance when it comes to pointing at stuff in games like Twilight Princess or Resident Evil 4, stuff I'd never dream of hitting with control sticks. Then again, I make good use of armrests, you don't have to hold your arm in midair to do pointy things, you know. And yes, I do use the Wii Wheel in Mario Kart, I use it all the time. And is it as accurate? I certainly think so, and my second place in the N-E League will back me up on that. You should see me play Perfect Dark on the 360. You'll cringe at how much I can't handle it. Dual Analogue is also the single reason I hate the Banjo-Tooie XBox remaster. Way too frustrating.

Oh damnit, now that image is in my head and I need to draw it now! I'm trying to play Xenoblaaaaaade! You seem to agree with me that the third Ranger game is the best one. All 3 games are perfectly decent, but they don't do much to differentiate themselves from each other. For all the claims that the mainline games don't do enough to spice up the formula, the three Ranger games were far worse in that regard. Also doesn't help that Guardian Signs makes the previous two mostly redundant. I'd only want to see another Ranger game if they really shake it up. Or take an example from PMD and have a decent story. Something a bit less predictable than "Bad guys are using Pokemon to do bad things, oh noes!" Anyway, another bunch of enjoyable reviews. But you know full well which one I'm most interested in seeing in the future.
-
Nope, don't have the console. I imagine, being another SMT spin-off, it'll share similarities with Tokyo Mirage Sessions though. You need to fix that. It's the most tight Metroid in terms of just playing the game. Yeah, Another Code R definitely could use some refinement in the motion controls department. This game does have one stand out puzzle near the end of the game that I'll probably remember for the rest of my life.
-
Yeesh, don't pull any punches, huh? I do agree with @Rummy on how this may not be the best way to handle the situation, but if this is what people want. It's also very hard to say what will happen with the NX, mostly because we know very little actual concrete information. But I know that I'd probably buy it because Nintendo for all their faults, still make games that I love to play. Yes, I understand they need to get more third parties on board and all that. But me? I'm OK with it right now. And Sony and Microsoft just don't offer those kinds of games for me.
