  1. Am I missing something? Does resolution really matter for 2 NES games and a G&W one?
  2. Oh, right. I wandered in there unexpectedly, noticed the enemies were LV. 60-ish and noped right out of there. Guess I forgot about it afterwards.
  3. Awww... I tolerate you too! It's a lot more down to earth as far as Final Fantasies go, which is probably why a lot of the fanbase wouldn't care much for it. But after ten of the epic saving the world games (and the fever dream of X-2), it's a nice change of pace. I never really felt that any of the characters did something so dumb even I had to point it out. Felt very believable. I complain about Vaan, but really, it's not like he makes the story worse. He just adds nothing and Fran needs to put some bloody clothes on! Can't take her seriously when most of her butt is visible at all times. The credit sequence shows some nice artwork and one of them was her in a more modest outfit and I wish she wore that instead. Minor nitpicks really, Fran needs a better designer and Vaan's party spot should be given to a Bangaa character instead to help make the roster more diverse. It's possible you might be thinking of the esper I didn't get? Because they were the best fights in the game. Having them lock out one of your commands really forces you to change in strategy and adapt. (That said, I did have a panic-inducing moment at the one that locked out the Magic command, I actually had to use items! I never use items in Final Fantasy!) After playing it, totally agree. But that only means FF12 is ahead of it's time and I owe it the existence of Xenoblade and that's no bad thing. Anyway, I now declare FF XII better than VIII, V, III and X. Maybe better than II, hard to decide at the moment. It's solid. Anyway, I've now started Ni No Kuni. The Studio Ghibli vibes are proper strong in this game, even when the 3D models are present. It's really impressive in that regard. Gorgeous game, gorgeous soundtrack, amazing world building. There's an over 400 page encyclopedia explaining how magic in this world works as well as all the other things in the game, even has some folk tales to go with it. Might have wasted an hour just flipping through it. A lot of the more useful pages are missing though, which is totes suspish. I'm getting some Golden Sun vibes from the magic system here, they're not just used for battles, some of them can be used for puzzle solving, which is promising.
  4. Credits have rolled on Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. I'm on my phone, so no big write up until lockdown ends, but I wanna give some immediate thoughts.
  5. You know how you're never the only one to do something? I do exactly the same thing. Anyway, keep in mind that @Hero-of-Time has yet to play through this yet, so your last paragraph is defo a spoiler.
  6. I'm more partial to a lucky-lucky-lucky-lucky seven!
  7. Luigi's Purple Coins is nowhere near as difficult as everyone makes out. I've said as much ever since the game came out.
  8. It's an interesting case. Because for all intents and purposes, the Pokémon DLC is the replacement for the usual third version, but I agree with @Julius in that it's not a fair comparison. Not even a bit. Anyway, @Dcubed, shame on you! Insinuating that it'll be a good idea to go back to third versions. Don't encourage Pokémon Company to take a step back with this. Every moment of genuine progress with this franchise should be treasured! Otherwise, it'll get put in the "Why'd they get rid of this?" pile along with Rotation Battles and Mega Evolution. Is that what you want?
  9. I love this game, but even I have to admit that the driving sections suck. Cars flip so much, you swear you were playing Mario Kart. I think you mean, "Best Running animation". Forgive me if I misunderstood, but are you reloading while out of cover? Because it's much safer to reload while covering behind something. If it's a case of popping back out too early, try and get in the habit of watching the little HUD animation whenever you reload. Can't remember quite what it looks like, it's been a while. Might have to play it again.
  10. He's now trailing by almost 30,000 votes in Pennsylvania, which means... BBC and a handful of other American News Networks are officially calling it. Here's hoping he craps the bed so much over this that he loses all republican respect and they don't consider putting him forward for 2024.
  11. The first level of Disaster involves storming an abandoned building to rescue "her" (Actual name, you can't convince me otherwise) from a terrorist organisation, but OH NO! An Earthquake! So you have to escape a rapidly collapsing building that seems to collapse precisely where Ray is at all times. Oh, and the terrorist organisation are still trying to shoot you to death. And despite all this, you can still get sidetracked from rescuing random injured civilians. That's probably the third calmest level in the game.
  12. Welp, the sequel to the UK's lockdown has started, so I'm afraid I won't be able to join in for the next 4 weeks. @BowserBasher, I'm gonna have to ask you to take pics of each race and PM me the results so I can update the table in December. Until then, Player's Choice should suffice. Have fun!
  13. It's a fantastic idea, but the UK lockdown has started, which means I won't be online for the foreseeable future, so someone else will have to host (and create the ruleset) tonight.
  14. That is literally one of my three "dream game" scenarios. Which means that it's got no chance in hell.
  15. Not really. Best you got in the first game was a screen showing what buttons to press for each combo and a short description of the gimmick the character/weapon has. Most of the characters in the first game were pretty straightforward, but some (Agitha, Link with the Spinner and Ghirahim, for example) can be hard to figure out how to use effectively. I only figured out to fully utilise Ghirahim when the Switch version came out. Anyway, I've not touched the demo yet (I was sold on the announcement), so I can't really give tips on how to use AoC's Impa.
  16. It's the best Monolith Soft game that no-one played. It's unbelievable in the most hilarious of ways. A little janky, but totally worth it for the B-Movie style cheese
  17. Wait, are you jumping? Because that's a mistake. You can just walk over revolving platforms when it's halfway to the other side.
  18. Oh, kinda like that advent calendar thing they did last year? Neat. Time to enter every day in the vain hope I get something. That early bird bonus seems to be that you get entered twice for every day you check the site.
  19. I guess I have the advantage over most people here of never owning a non-Nintendo console in my life. (No, the Mega Drive Mini doesn't count) Because of this and the mostly good third party showing, I've been playing a lot more third party games than I have with previous consoles. A lot of games that came out on the competition a while back are experiences I've never had before. I think I'm near the end of Final Fantasy XII and after that, I've got Ni No Kuni to tide me over until "Hyrule Warriors: BotW, but actually fun" comes out. Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is something I'm looking forward to and I've not really touched the Pokémon DLC (Outside of the pretty fun Dynamax Adventures mode) as well. So I'm still playing my Switch way too much.
  20. I mean, a year ago, I would have said the first PMD game, because it really needed to be updated with Super's mechanics, but that's not applicable anymore. Don't get me wrong, seeing Explorers of Sky get the same treatment would be great, but that game doesn't need the update quite as much as the Rescue Team games did. And then I thought of Chrono Trigger, but then, Square Enix is very hit and miss when it comes to updates to their old library. Not sure I'd want that especially after seeing the likes of FFVI on mobile. And now that I type it, Chrono Trigger still holds up anyway. So I nominate Chrono Cross. I tried playing it a while back and it's exhausting. Long loading times, a needlessly complicated battle system and a party of characters where you don't care about 90% of them. A redo of that has the potential to let it live up to it's predecessor.
  21. Trust me, auto-acceleration isn't a crutch. It's a game changer not having to hold A all the time.
  22. Time for an update on our random windy adventure. Booted up the game, we were at a position where we were starting to run out of options before falling back on going to the Forsaken Woods without a sword (2 enemies there can softlock the game and force a save and quit if they touch you and you're swordless). 3 chests I knew we could reach before that though, so back to the Tower of the Gods for a chest that we could get thanks to the Bow we found since our last trip there. And you'd never guess what was there... It was Moe's Letter, bit of an anti-climax. Still, delivered that to Maggie on Windfall Island and she had the Sword! Thanks to new stabbity powers, a few more chests opened up. One of which had the freaking Light Arrows! Haven't even completed a dungeon yet. Link can now use the Bow to delete enemies from existence without having to basically wait the entire game where you have nothing to use them on outside of Puppet Ganon. Yes, it is hilarious. Also got the Master Sword 3 chests later. You wait ages for one Sword and two come along at once. Typical. We've finally completed an entire dungeon. Forsaken Woods is done. We've got 12 hearts, finishing that got us a Compass for the first dungeon. Thanks? Still can't get more than a few rooms in for Dragon Roost Cavern because we need a second key. But it's all fun and games until you realise you've run out of chests. I'm starting to think I overlooked a reef chest, so I'm gonna have to visit those again. Got the Boomerang now, so it ain't all bad (A Big Octo had it, which is typical) We also got a chart that led us to a Master Sword upgrade! Remember how you have to do the Earth and Wind Temple to power up the Master Sword? Well those power ups are part of the random item pool, so we might not need to finish the Wind Temple and Earth Temple at all. These are the roadblocks that are in our way. Skull Hammer - You don't really appreciate an item until you go without it, the lack of this item is blocking off so much. We can't even really start the Forsaken Fortress without it, and we can't even get into the Wind Temple. Not to mention the bundles of chests on smaller items that need the Hammer, Private Oasis, Shark Island and 2 Fairy Fountains. We really need to find this soon. Power Bracelets - Earth Temple is closed until we find this, a few other big rocks to pick up as well. It's also one of those items that you absolutely must have to finish the game, because you can't beat Jalhalla without them and he's part of the boss rush in Ganon's Castle. Hookshot - Not as important as the Power Bracelets, but Wind Temple will need it for full exploration and there's a couple of islands that need it too. Also mandatory for Molgera, which shows up in Ganon's Castle. Spoils Bag and Bait Bag - Yep, still not found them. It's getting a tad ridiculous. Getting both would open about 8 more items. And a way to make some quick cash. Picto Box - Not joking, really useful item for randomizers. Picto Box gets you 4 items while the Deluxe one unlocks a further 2. The last Triforce Shard and the second Master Sword upgrade - These won't be immediately useful, but we'll need them sooner or later to finish the game. Won't get us any items, though. Anyway, getting Light arrows really early has brought about a few glitches. Nothing game breaking, just oddities from using them in places where you really shouldn't have them. The Forsaken Woods Midboss can be killed in one hit with the Light Arrows. Useful! But because of the special animation you get from killing something this way (The only reason I can think of), the Midboss music didn't stop. And it persisted even when we left the room. Cue us exploring Forsaken Woods to really action-y music. And then we noticed that the normal dungeon music was still playing on top of the Midboss music. So two songs were playing at once, which caused all sorts of static noises from the speaker. It fixed itself when we left the dungeon though. We couldn't get very far in Forsaken Fortress, but we could fight Phantom Ganon. So we had to try the Light Arrows. That does nothing, unfortunately. Which is weird, because when you fight him a second time in Ganon's Castle, you need the Light Arrows to beat him. Woopsies? Kalle Demos, the boss of Forsaken Woods, doesn't actually take any extra damage from using Light Arrows, it reacts as if you've shot it with a normal arrow, so it's better just to whack it with your sword. Master Sword kills it quicker though, just like the boss rush version.
  23. He was, until they removed the Mario Shirt he used to have in New Horizons. He still has "Itsa me" as his catchphrase though...
  24. Finally got the best one as well! That's 4 crocs now! 3 to go.
  25. But Ocarina of Time was in the last Hyrule Warriors.
