  1. We could do a graph showing who got the most thanks and was therefore the most right
  2. Yeah, (very) occasional emails to opted-in users is something I'd like to do anyway.
  3. Personally I agree to be honest, but I think it's too popular a feature to take away just because some people misuse it. I'm pretty sure the new software comes with a "like/react" functionality built in and I'd like to leave it in at first at least to see if it's treated any differently to "thanks".
  4. Funnily enough I was blocked myself and could only get on here myself by clearing the IP bans with a proxy.
  5. This software is fully responsive, so you wouldn't need Tapatalk on your mobile really. However, Tapatalk's website says it works with IPB, and I'll be happy to install any plugins required to make it work, but I probably wouldn't include anything prompting users to try it like we have now.
  6. The look that you like is mostly our custom themes, with the exception of the new reply views etc.. We will definitely reskin any new board too, even if not immediately. What else is it you like about the vb software? It's not impossible to rebuild custom features on the new system, although how many of them really get used? When was the last time anyone embedded a wiki, kickstarter, flipnote, ign video or instagram post? Tbh I imagine if we went to vb5, we would hit the same issues as so many of the features are built in a dated way, they just can't be successfully ported. Wherever possible I will try to retain the individuality of this forum. Edit: I don't want to seem argumentative, the opinions of those who like vB a lot are those I'm most concerned with.
  7. The money we make from advertising has dropped off significantly over the years. However, I have been getting free hosting through work (quite low performance which accounts for a lot of the instability, but highly accessible as an admin) to cover that. The ad money we put aside can cover the initial license, then we only have to pay a small amount if we ever need to renew the license for updates in the future. I very much appreciate the offer but for now I hope that instead, we can build back up visitor numbers and cover costs ourselves.
  8. For a while now I've been thinking about, and testing/playing with, Invision Power Boards as an alternative to vBulletin. You can see their own Forums here as an example, if you're not familiar: https://invisionpower.com/forums/ Some advantages of the system: Responsive (mobile/tablet-friendly) design out of the box Faster More stable, modern and secure Your accounts will be automatically transferred All existing threads and posts will be transferred Per-forum customisation Alternate login options (Facebook etc) Optional Question and Answer format for posts, allowing OP to vote for the best answer Other general improvements to browsing, searching, sharing and navigating Some possible disadvantages: Existing themes will be lost, although new ones can be made easier Some features/bbcodes will not perfectly port over, spoiler tags may break for example Read-only downtime while we transfer The reason I'm posting this here is because I don't want to be one of those admins that just decides what's best for you all and does a switch, that everyone ends up hating. Not only because of the risk of alienating users, but also the software is non-refundable :p This will also be the first step in a larger plan to generally speed up and improve stability on the site. So let us know your thoughts!
  9. Well I loved it. It was an actual good movie for a change, not just a visually stunning action flick. Gadot was brilliant.
  10. Thanks Hero, not sure what to make of that to be honest, seems like apache/php aren't behaving themselves but it's difficult to request support on when it's so intermittent. For now I've tried turning it off and on again, so lets see if that helps a bit.
  11. That's just anime for you... I'd try and learn to accept that if you're going to watch more serialised teenage-boy (shonen) anime like AoT. They have a budget and they tend to go for quality in key scenes rather than a balanced average.
  12. Got tickets to see this tomorrow straight after work. I. Am. Excite. I think I'm more happy about what this could do for the DC movies going forward than for the movie itself. DC needs a restart and it needs to come from a place of better writing/direction > explosions and special effects. Basically they need to stop Michael Baying it, because it's not working for them.
  13. Needs more obvious 90s options: Bonus:
  14. I got a decent pay raise starting in the next couple of weeks, somewhere around 7%. I still feel like I can't keep on top of my finances though. Owning a home/living alone is expensive, and that's despite having a pretty cheap house/reasonable mortgage. One of the things I used to love about my job was getting paid weekly, but now I'd much rather get paid monthly. However, to make the change/bridge the gap I'd have to save a fair bit and it feels like I'm stuck in a loop.
  15. Yeah it was on the Vita, I think it might've even been a PS+ game or part of a budget pack of games because I had it despite it not being something I'd normally buy.
  16. I've seen the trailer and it can't be that good. I am very much looking forward to it though and no doubt it will be a breath of fresh air after Man of Steel and BvS.
  17. Agreed. It's tragic, utterly awful, but letting it halt campaigning on one of the most important votes this country has had in a long time only gives more weight to the attack. We don't need to "move on" but we need to move forward.
  18. When are they going to start bundling it with the camera at a reasonable price... feel like that's cost them a lot of sales because I'm constantly put off any deal knowing I'd need to source extras just to make the thing work. It's like if your PS4 came without a controller.
  19. I've been thinking lately that no game has really captured scale in an open-world game very well. Usually because movement is too fast/easy or there's too much fast travelling. Even when faced with a realistically recreated mountain, they're shrunk down to be much smaller than reality but we accept it, and we sprint up it with unlimited/intermittently unlimited stamina. Just look at a real picture of a person in front of a forest, or mountain, and think about how long it would really take to get up there (or even, the guy in the field in Video #2 above). Even with the amount of disconnect you need to make a game playable/fun, the margin could be closed a little and the game could still be great. If there's one game universe that could fix this it's probably Far Cry, that gives you lots of tools and vehicles to get around quickly when you need to. I've no reason to think that this is an aim of theirs, just something I've been thinking recently. Could be something special if they managed it.
  20. Can someone copy and paste the error to me next time they see it please?
  21. Typo in your post, you missed off "since Alien and Aliens obvs".
  22. Which one did you go to? Didn't realise there was one in Manchester now. Gonna try and convince my mates!
  23. Amazingly, hopefully not getting ahead of myself, this movie seems to be getting actual positive feedback! Review embargo hasn't lifted yet but tweeting a general opinion by those who've had a sneak preview has been allowed and people are saying positive things. Honestly I was starting to think we'd never see another positive critical reaction to a DCEU movie again. http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2017/05/the-first-reactions-for-wonder-woman-are-spectacular/
  24. Adjusted a security setting, hopefully nobody's seen it so far today?
