Nintendo Direct (14th September 2023 @ 15:00 BST)

That's clearly a placeholder title. It'll be "Princess Peach is starring as the main character in a brand new game" -
Nintendo Direct (14th September 2023 @ 15:00 BST)
Ashley replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I can't really see Nintendo discussing the new console this side of Christmas. Could potentially lose themselves some sales if people know something is round the corner. -
I've heard it's good for an adaptation and fun overall. Don't think it'll go down as one of the best shows ever, but a fun series nonetheless.

Funny you should say because that'll mark the end of new content for the game: https://nintendoeverything.com/mario-kart-tour-to-end-new-content-after-battle-tour/

Is "somewhere on the internet" not good enough for you? What if I did it in the Harvard Referencing System style? 😋 But just to be clear, I don't think it is that just one of those "wouldn't surprise me 🤷♂️" kind of things

In fairness I don't imagine he would have done those. I did see a suggestion that Nintendo got annoyed that the Mario movie voice cast was overshadowed by "why isn't it Martinet?", suggesting he "is" Mario. Don't really think it's that but wouldn't be surprised if it did at least annoy them.

Watched the video and so he's... Doing the convention circuit? Which he did before anyway? Kind of feels like they wanted to change the voices and he was still in a contract, or perhaps he's so connected with the franchise if they just dropped him there would be backlash so they're just waiting for him to no longer be able to go to the events

Switch 2 - predictions, guesstimates and other SWAGs
Ashley replied to Ashley's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Switch 2 is as powerful as two Wiis stuck together that's snacked on some quinoa and coffee beans. -
And by that I assume you mean it doesn't feature angry Kirby?

N-E Mario Kart 8 DX Get Together (All Cup Tour - Week 1 - 10/4)
Ashley replied to Glen-i's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Oh should we? -
I only have the first because I heard the second isn't much different so I assume it works the same way round. Unless there's a particular knock off version of a song you want to hear I imagine you'll be fine with just the second.

The Screen Actors Guild, currently on strike from film and TV productions in America (along with writers), is balloting it's members on whether to strike from the gaming industry. Voting will run from September 5th to 25th and if a strike went ahead it would affect the following companies: Activision Productions Inc., Blindlight LLC, Disney Character Voices Inc., Electronic Arts Productions Inc., Epic Games, Inc., Formosa Interactive LLC, Insomniac Games Inc., Take 2 Productions Inc., VoiceWorks Productions Inc., and WB Games Inc. Main points are AI, working conditions and pay. Source: https://deadline.com/2023/09/sag-aftra-possible-strike-video-game-companies-1235533458/

Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct (Thursday 31st August 2023 @15:00 BST)
Ashley replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
1) intentional pun? 2) given Nintendo responded to questions about who would voice the characters in this by basically saying "buy the game and find out" I wouldn't hold my breath -

Two people are showing up.

And based on people I know; he's got the vote of thirsty gays too.

He and Kelsey Grammar did a play in London a few years back. Think they've been friends since. Or IDK, maybe he found a portal to another time in his house again.

November 24th, the original Sonic Tuesday, is on a Friday this year. Missed opportunity.
-
Oh yeah the vibes wouldn't be great right now but then Stephen Amell broke the strike and survived so they could weather it if they really wanted. I get a sense that at the moment they are happy with getting a new actor in.
-
In fairness the strikes issue with AI is it's use to do the initial work and expect others to tidy up (in the case of writers) and as far as replacement it's being unfairly compensated (at the moment they get paid a day and no royalties no matter it's usage). I would expect an agreement for suitable compensation for any studio time (whether they'd need it in this case is unclear) and loyalties for every usage would be okay with the union. Although I suspect this wouldn't be covered by those on strike as I doubt SAG covers video game voice over.

The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 are getting a Blu-ray and 4k UHD release: https://tvline.com/news/loki-wandavision-blu-ray-4k-uhd-release-dates-details-mandalorian-1235031184/ December in America. No word on a UK release but seems likely.

Didn't know that. How wasteful. I'd be amused if they hired a European to voice him so he could say Mario correctly after all these years.
-
Yeah it's probably best he goes out in his own terms otherwise he could end up like Julie Kavner (please, just let her rest!) Interesting they've gone for new actor(s?) right away. They've got enough of a sound bank and some voice clips from 20 years ago are still used, but maybe they're saying some new things in Wonder. If anyone is interested Thomas Games Docs on YouTube has a series of videos about changes to voice actors (and also where different people have been used like in cartoons and that).
