dannbrownn Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 I have just read the following: http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6161926.html?sid=6161926 I was very suprised at the news especially how long the News and internet channel will take to become available. I was expectiing them to be either on the console all ready or available to download from the wii shop on launch. Strange that they waited until two days before its worldwide debut in america to tell us this as surely it will make some people feel cheated. I am dissapointed but it's not greatly important that i have news weather and internet channels at this time! What do you think?
Guest Jordan Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 They have to get stuff sorted, i'd rather it be a complete service later down the line than a half assed not really working one at launch to be honest.
Samdecahedron Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 I, personally, don't care as long as the Wii shop and Mii channel are there. The weather and news channels seem to be aimed at the non-gamer, who probably won't be buying the Wii at launch anyway.
solitanze Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Good complete service over half assed rushed service anyday.
Dcubed Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 But will they be free or will we have to pay for them? I think I know what's gonna happen
Nintendork Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Opera: Free until June 2007. News Channels: Apparently a generic RSS centric service for international and personal news Weather: Free dealy with some met office somewhere in the world.. uses satelites. I will just use my computer.. as someone cleverly pointed out. Who has access to a Wii and wireless internet but not a computer? Computers do the job better. I will only use the shop for Wii points, saving me the hassle of going down the shop.
Rummy Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Dissappointed they only announced this now, although the thing about VC titles every monday is nice, but does it mean america will be getting VC titles before us? Will we have different release schedules, like different games to them etc? Is everyone across the globe going to be getting the weather and news at the same time, or will it be even later for us? It's not a big deal for me, but I am disappointed in them. Why haven't they got it sorted out already?
Nintendork Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 We will have shit schedules if Nintendo Europe is in charge. Nintendo US has Reggie running a tight ship, where as Nintendo Europe is more like the Child Support Agency. The Main channels will be international infastructure.. news is done by Associated Press (highly regarded) and weather by NASA. Where as virtual console games can come out whenever Nintendo Europe see fit. Which means they will be slack (already indicated by the lack of MSX and PC-Engine.)
flameboy Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 To be honest the Wii Shop is still up and running so I'm not really bothered. I just hope we are going to get new VC games every monday aswell....something i doubt will actually happen.
raven_blade2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Just give them time to implement it properly. Im more concerned on their progress with the Online Gaming support anyway.
Girly hiyaz!~ Gamer Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 no weather channel at launch???!!?! fuck the wii. what a useless piece of trash.
dannbrownn Posted November 17, 2006 Author Posted November 17, 2006 Just give them time to implement it properly. Im more concerned on their progress with the Online Gaming support anyway. Me to no weather channel at launch???!!?! fuck the wii. what a useless piece of trash. I honestly don't know if that is meant to be a joke or not?!
Teppo Holmqvist Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 The Main channels will be international infastructure.. news is done by Associated Press (highly regarded) and weather by NASA. That is probably main reason why News Channel was pushed. In last month Edge's interview, NOA's marketing rep said CNN would be doing the news for US Region. It could mean that they didn't agree on how to do it.
Mokong Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 No big deal I say, less things to distract me from the games on launch day
gmanprime Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Opera: Free until June 2007. hmm. Maybe that is when they are going to switch over to dvd able wiis.
Emasher Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 free till june o7 ninty and opera have been saying that for months 12 vc games and new ones every monday for how long will this happen on the day after lanch
Pit-Jr Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 no weather channel at launch???!!?! fuck the wii. what a useless piece of trash. My thoughts exactly! I havent been reading up on the available channels but will there be some sort of instant messaging channel or nay?
Nintendork Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 No because that will result in the headlines like CHILD RAPED BY WII 'BUDDY'
Din Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 I highly doubt I will use the news or weather channels much.
river_rage Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 no weather channel at launch???!!?! fuck the wii. what a useless piece of trash. That one had me laughing out loud. Good one
Rummy Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Just give them time to implement it properly. Im more concerned on their progress with the Online Gaming support anyway. Now theres something I hadn't considered at all, is this going to interfere with the online gaming support and push that back even further??
The3rdChildren Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 If the USB ethernet adapter was available I'd be pissed, but since it doesn't look likely I think I'll survive the launch without the Wii Channels.
Shorty Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 My Wii will be right next to my PC, which has real internet....
flameboy Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 My Wii will be right next to my PC, which has real internet.... yeah me to at uni, got my tv and laptop on same big desk thing. guess the wii's internet is only any use for in the lounge maybe if you don't have your computer anywhere near it. I'll use opera once on my wii to see what it's like then not bother.
Jasper Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 I'de love to have seen to channels up and running, and to be fairly honest: they could have being. They are simple to make and develop and it doesn't take that much, except an agreement, to get this stuff working. The only thing I'm seriously having troubles with is the Web Browser. Nintendo can say it's free untill next June, but will it be out before next June? Probably, but still. It somwhat pushed their good image over by announcing these servcies two months agop and not being able to deliver. It's quite a punch in the face. But then again, we have got Disc Channel (Good Lord, if we don't, Nintendo's in for trouble), Shop Channel, Mii Channel and Photo Chanel. Plenty enough to fiddle around with before actually going to news, weather or porn. Did I say porn? I meant internet. No really, I meant porn(1). (1) - Actually, I didn't mean porn. I meant internet. As in visiting N-Europe.com.
