Nintendo Wii looks like it's getting Tony Hawk's downhill jam instead of Tony Hawk's prject 8...

Anyone know?...what's going on..?

'Cause just saying the name "downhill jam" is embarassing

Any games primarily being designed as "next gen" games, with the full power of the 360/PS3 in mind, wont make it to Wii...hence we're mainly going to get "spin off" games like this, new takes on franchises that take better advantage of The Wii remote than porting over a game designed for another system and throwing it in would.

Sadly The Wii isn't getting 'Project 8', when you see it in motion, you'll understand why.

I believe Project 8 is out on other formats around 24/11/06, well i hope anyway.

The Wii is getting a exclusive Tony Hawk Title called 'Downhill Jam' (the DS as well) which looks ALOT of fun to me, the controls are a little difficult supposadely.

I'll be getting both Tony Hawks game. : peace:

This is concerning. Its as if Wiis future and chances of success has already been determined by game developers. Its the same s**t as what happened to cube, except this time, Wiis going to get all these substitute games of established franchises with cheap novelty Wiimote controls tacked on and very ugly graphics not utilising this great device to its FULLEST EXTENT in regards to both CONTROL and GRAPHICS as it will be "too much effort" for developers to put their PREMIER MATURE games onto the Wii when THEY BELIEVE that they will sell very poorly, this predetermined notion that these developers have that the Wii will also underperform just because the Gamecube did. In regards to graphics, I almost threw up when looking at some of the graphics that are appearing on some of the games on Wii, they are DISGUSTING, particularly the efforts from Hudson Soft like that fishing game, Fishing Master (Working Title). The Gamecubes poor performance that has distanced developers from Nintendo has already harmed Wiis reputation significantly and games with elements of REALISM in them are games that SELL in great numbers and so far are being completely dismissed on appearing on Wii, not a good sign. Its going to take a lot of sucking up and waving of cash from Nintendo to get the faith of these developers again and they need to do it, FAST. Theres only so much the average consumer can take before these underwhelming efforts from developers on the Wii will tempt consumers to buy a Playstation 3...

Call of duty 3 is suposedly identical on all formats.

I agree wholeheartedly, and was attacked for saying something very similar over on another thread. However, you'll probably see massive posts now saying why the Wii doesn't need 'Project 8' - Project 8 can be substituted for the next true Resident Evil game, anything by Factor 5, Silicon Knights, the next TimeSplitters game etc.

Who cares? For those who actually play Tony Hawks it's been going downhill since Tony Hawks 2.

Reason? The formula was good, instead of building upon that formula they built around it.

Merging genres, latest gimmicks and swamping the original formula.

Most kids don't care.. they just want licensed branded goods and the latest hot thing in skateboarding.. namely Bam Margera. They want to tow along on cars for a laugh.

IMHO Tony Hawks sucks balls (that includes downhill jam and the DS thing) and I'm more interested in the Skateboarding game EA has in the works.

Project 8 seems to have gone back to basics, I'm happy with that and I'll probably get it on the PS3 at some point if it's not another gimmick fest.

I wouldn't want to play such a game on the Wii.. and honestly neither should you.

It actually looks better on 360...and is just a port of the 360 ver. from what I hear with added controls n downgraded graphics. Which is what all companies that want proper multi format games should do.

Attacked? We just answered on your rant* and pointed flaws in your arguments. I wonder how do you live in real world if everyone who disagrees with you is "attacking". And it is really moronic to say that game X is better than game Y, just because it has better graphics. You can't really say how bad Wii games are before you have actually played 'em. But nah, that would be logical thing to do.

Can we please get this straight? Tony Hawks Downhill Jam will suck balls even to the most moronic fanboys looking to get joy out of a blood covered stone.

All launches have bad titles, this is one of them.

Never judge game before you have played it. That's how it works. I don't by any means except it to be good game, but I'm not going to slag it off either before I have tested it personally.

Personally, I deem it to be so shit I'm not going to let my godly hands be tainted by playing it. That's how strongly I feel about it.

What could possibly be good about it? It hasn't got the budget for any licensed brands so it is used brands from Tony Hawk's portfolio- primarily Hawk Shoes and Birdhouse skateboards.

Not that the graphics seem to be able to represent these branded goods anyway.. so let's talk about gameplay.. how much flexibility can you possibly have in a downhill game? You can't do tricks in real life when racing downhill so it's basically just SSX on concrete. Bending reality because otherwise the game would get really boring.

I know which I'd rather play.

QFT and approved by nearly all my friends which plan to buy a Wii on launch!

lol, yeah it was a bit angry, as I wasn't in the best of moods yesterday. But my point still stands, Nintendo are losing the support of developers, and we seem to be looking at ports of last gen games with new controls, or cut down spin off games with poor graphics. Certain big name franchises won't be gracing the Wii in their proper incarnations.

This is worrying. And I think some people are burying their heads in the sand. Some are almost justifying (or trying to) why we don't want these developers working on the Wii. It's all well and good, but my worry is that this won't be the stance taken by the public, or even the gaming community as a whole, which may well lead to the Wii lacking the support it will need to survive.

I never said a game is better simply because it's graphics are better, I've been playing Nintendo games for over 18 years now, they're the only consoles I've owned. The reason being that I believe Nintendo games ARE better, and better where it counts - in terms of their deep immersive gameplay. But that's always in the past been coupled with great graphics which have often led the way in that generation.

My worries are that Nintendo will be left behind this generation because of the choices they have made. Great games from Nintendo themselves will not sell the Wii alone. We've seen this in the past, third party support is crucial to the survival of a console. And it looks at the moment, that because of the fact that Nintendo has gone down the raod that it has that many developers are not bringing big franchises to the Wii. Some are of course, but it's in a cut down and graphically degraded form or as what will be seen as weak spin offs.

I don't want the Wii to be some massive flop that gets ignored by the public or worse still goes on to spell the death of Nintendo in the home console market - that's the last thing I want. I've always supported Nintendo, and I will be with the Wii, but I'm not going to blindly praise Nintendo.

I have praised their innovations many times, but I will criticse their short comings too, and after seeing the screens for certain games and seeing developers shy away from Nintendo I think there are reasons for concern. Sorry if this ruffles some feathers.

These spin offs are a positive not a negative, well at least in the short term. Its basically a test for Nintendo, its experimentation on behalf of the developers to see if their games will sell sufficient amounts and they're basically giving Nintendo an opportunity to redeem themselves, a second chance if you like. If they do sell well great, if they don't, it could end up going down the road of gamecube, but to a lesser extent. I reckon though, Nintendo are in a good position. Its basically PSP vs DS console style.

You've missed nothing...........but replace Timesplitters with Haze in his post and you'll get the picture.

The whole spin off thing is just about developer being afraid of investing too much money into a new plattform. Also the hardware of the Wii is a very limiting factor.

I just wonder why nobody is afraid to invest millions in the PS3 ...

Seems the euphory of developerse a few months ago didn't survive the calculating analysts of publishers.

Nintendork you've been saying shit about Tony Hawk's since the moment you layed eyes on the first screens, while people that actually played it say it's fun. But, hey, you're the expert.

I'm still buying 'Downhill Jam' because i'm one of those moronic fanboys!

AND i want to give it a go before saying it's shite. Doesn't look to bad to me....

The last one I played was 4, and quite frankly I thought it was awesome. But at the same time I didn't have any desire to buy the next one, because I was pretty satisfied with that one. Honestly, it kinda reached its zenith. So I won't be buying any of the new ones. I'll wait till SSX or 1080 instead of Downhill Jam.
