Former Juve general manager Luciano Moggi has been banned from the game for five years - the same penalty meted out to Antonio Giraudo.

Ex-Italian Football Federation president Franco Carraro has been suspended for four years and six months - the same length of time which referee Massimo De Sanctis has been banned for.

i realy want Gattuso to go to Man Utd.

Have you been reading my mind? :p

Compared to the others, AC Milan got let off quite lightly...if you can call it that.

This means that none of the relegated teams can play European football for at least a few seasons now, doesn't it? They have to get promoted back to Serie A, then they have to finish in a place that means they get european football in the next season. If i'm correct, that means these teams will miss out on European football for at least 2 seasons!

No i just go into your house at nite, place a straw in your ear and suck out your thoughts.

I assume after all this Chelsea and Real madrid will sock up alot of the players with there money, maybe AS Roma and Inter Milan will get some only realy due to the fact they are italian.

I feel like an idiot for not knowing, but what was this scandal exactly?

Basically the 4 clubs were involved in organising "Friendly Referees" to take charge of their matches.

Juventus and their former Chairman Moggi were the biggest culprits. Thats why Juve got such a harsh sentence.

The Italian police suspected Moggi of criminal dealings and began to tap his phone in 2004/05 season but didnt find enough evidence to convict him on the charges they wanted, but they discovered he was talking to the Italian FA's Referees Supervisor to organise "Juve friendly" referees (whom Moggi believed would ref a game to Juve's advantage) so passed their evidence onto the Italian FA, who in turn discovered more of their officials were mixed up in the dealing which extended to 3 other clubs; Fiorentina, Lazio and AC Milan.

How come AC didn't get relegated? Something to do with Berlusconi being a former PM?

Juve aren't likely to move back up for at least 2 years now because of the 30 points deducted... They might not get up for even longer if all the good players leave too....

Very interesting. I feel sorry for the players though who don't know that this was happening and have been relegated and will have their wages cut now.

Just because their relegated to serie B doesn't mean they'll start selling players, it means they'll have the best second division in the world.

Relegation is feared by many a club for many reasons. Not only can you not take part in matches against teams in the top league, but you will also not receive the same revenue. Face it, who are fans going to want to see? Man Utd against Arsenal, or Man Utd against Port Vale. ;)

Players' wages are linked with the club's revenue. If the club doesn't make money, the wages do not get paid. What does this mean? Unhappy staff. Player's will leave.

If they want to stay in Italy, many will leave for clubs in Serie A. Big players NEED champions league or european football. If clubs receive good offers for their players, they may be forced to cave in and sell them.

I believe thats because AC Milan only had one piece of evidence against them.

Edit - On the relegation point. It is rumoured that Juventus' sponsor is going to pull out of its deal. At thus loss of more money.

Yeah that was the rumour, seems they let them off a bit lightly. Going down 2 divisions would have killed the club off.

Thing is if the players were loyal they would take a pay cut for one season and play their hearts out to get their teams straight back up to serie A. But no doubt they will all move on as football becomes more and more about money.

Mind you deducting 30 points off Juve is a killer... damn if a lot of their players go they are gonna find it hard to pick up points and then they could even end up getting relegated to serie C.
