More infomation.

"Resident Evil: Extinction is again based on the wildly popular videogame series and picks up where the last film left off. Alice (Milla Jovovich), now in hiding in the Nevada desert, once again joins forces with Carlos Oliveira (Oded Fehr) and L.J. (Mike Epps), along with new survivors Claire (Ali Larter), K-Mart (Spencer Locke) and Nurse Betty (Ashanti) to try to eliminate the deadly virus that threatens to make every human being undead... and to seek justice. Since being captured by the Umbrella Corporation, Alice has been subjected to biogenic experimentation and becomes genetically altered, with super-human strengths, senses and dexterity. These skills, and more, will be needed if anyone is to remain alive.

The flick, which hits the big screen next year, is directed by Russell Mulcahy from a script by Paul W.S. Anderson. Anderson produced the film along with Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer."

"Ashanti will play the character of Betty, a paramedic who is a true angel of Mercy. Betty is a former member of the Chicago Airborne Ambulance and she is in charge of caring for members in the caravan who have been wounded in combat." :indeed:

Ok those who've known me since the early days of Cube-Europe, will know that i am a complete nutter of a made fan of Resident Evil, it's storyline and characters are something i know inside out and outside in.

However i have to say that i did enjoy the first 2 films, for the simple reason that i consider them to take place in a different universe to the games, well mostly the second, i can place the first one into the the timeline of the games about 3-6months before REzero with no problems.

But from the sounds of where this 3rd film is going it just sounds like Resi meets Mad Max, and i don't like the idea it taking place for long after the 2nd film what the hell happened between 2 and 3? He can't say the games took place because of what he did with the 2nd film forces it into a different universe from the games.

It was a nice "idea" to do the trilogy like that 1st set before the games, 2nd within the game and 3rd after. But that only works if the games are to have a definte ending and i think we can all agree that Capcom would never consider "ending" the RE series, which means sooner or later there will be a game made set in the same time frame as this 3rd film and i really don't see a Resi game working in that kind of setting

Ok first it's set long after the 2nd now its "where it left off", which is it? And even though the T-virus could be capable of doing such a thing to the world, i don't think it would work that fast. Also the total lack of other viruses is just plain wrong.

Ok so what the hell happened to Jill? And who is Ali Larter? Was she in anything before?

Mokong, none of it makes sense. It's all either really clever or very badly written. I'll leave it to you to decide which. I can never forgive Anderson for what he has done - I would've a thought as a Resi fan the very sight of Nemisis kung-fu fighting and then turning "good" would have made you vomit your own brains, as it did me. Still, to each his own, I suppose.

I haven't seen the first one properly and I haven't seen the 2nd one at all but I've heard nothing but bad things which doesn't bother me really. I will prbably still go and see this and hopefully I'll get a chance to watch the first 2.

Come to think about it, I like Terminator 2 and Mad Max :P

I enjoyed the first film to be honest, yeah the special effects were a bit dodgy and the plot didn't tie in with the games but I found it to be fairly entertaining. Never saw the second but I think this sounds fine, if very land of the dead'ish - Its an interesting take on the world of Resident Evil as far as I'm concerned and whilst I probably won't see it at the cinema I genuinley don't think it sounds as bad as everyone is making out.

Why can't they just make decent, proper plot Resi films. Wesker, Barry, Leon...

That's exactly what I'd love to see! I hate all this "Resi Evil in a different universe" crap. ¬¬ As I said, the novels (with some adaptions) would make excellent scripts for the movie conversions.

And make money? You must be joking...

I think a movie/set of movies closer to the Resi storylines (with the proper characters) would be a big success. Look at Silent Hill for example. Okay, so they did use different characters in that movie, but it stuck really close to the games in terms of style and plot. Heck, they even used the soundtracks from the games! I think it's quite a damn good film, and works really well by being faithful to the series.

I found the first two films to be quite ok and this could turn out to be a a fun action movie as well. I don't really know the RE story so I don't care if it ties in.

I can already imagine the plot: shoot and run over Zombies for 2 hours and find the antidote in some underground lab in the last 5 minutes. :D

But we all must be thankful that Uwe Boll isn't directing:

Alone in the Dark anyone?

On another note I think we should see Ada Wong with a real actress on the big screen

LOL, there's a lot more to the Resi Evil plot than that! I suggest you play the games first, thier superb. Then you might see why the films are hated by many people (inc. me.) You have a point though, Uwe Boll could have been taken on and messed it up even more. I don't even want to imagine what the plot would have been like if he was to do it *shudder.*

I agree that Ada needs to be in the movies, as long as the actress looks enough like her and does a good job of portraying Ada.

Yes I meant the movie plot. I actually was writing about the plot of the upcoming film.

I completed RE4 and enjoyed every bit of it. I also have REmake but I can't get to grips with the fixed camera.

Someone got their hands on a draft of a Resident Evil: Extinction script post-dated May 15th 2006.

Here's all the info we could glean from it:

-"Post-apocalyptic" world is a bit of an exaggeration. The film takes place only 3 days after Apocalypse and one third of the US has been infected. A massive quarantine barrier bisects the entire country.

-Raccoon City also got nuked, twice.

-The BOWs that will appear in the movie are: zombie, super-zombies, Hunters, Chimeras, the Yawn and the T-002 Tyrant. Some of the lesser BOWs may get replaced with Lickers from the previous movies due to budget and time constraints.

-Everyone who survived the last film is back, except one. In fact we're first reintroduced to the gang when they're mourning Angie Ashford, who died from a zombie attack a few hours before.

-They're in their little Mad Max vehicle driving around the Nevada desert. Dr. Issacs is also back and is searching for Alice in his own armoured vehicle. He's also taken to summarily executing his subordinates on a whim.

-Lots of big wide-angle shots from a news helicopter's POV showing destroyed citiy streets à la RE:Outbreak, before zooming in on Alice's vehicle. They stop at a gas station and get out. Jill and L.J take care of food whilst Alice and Carlos get gasoline.

-Zombies turn up, a battle ensues and during the height of the slaughter Alice uses her super-powers to make the zombies' brains explode. ::shrug:

-Cut to Claire Redfield infiltrating an Umbrella outpost on the outskirts of a city called Birkin (yes, you read that correctly). She takes Nurse Betty hostage and orders her to help Claire get into the more secure sections of the base so she can get more info on the location of her brother, Chris. Betty gets the best of her a few minutes later and activates an alarm. Claire gets taken prisoner.

-Meanwhile Alice & co have also arrived at the outpost and Alice is using her super-powers again to kill the guards. Jill hacks into the security system and shuts it down, meaning all the BOWs can now get out.

Hunters and Chimeras take down all the guards whilst Claire, Betty and "Umbrella Captain" take refuge in an electrified kennel. Alice then enters the base alone and uses her wire kung-fu to kill all the BOWs, including impaling one of the BOW's heads. :shakehead

-Cue lengthy exposition where it's revealed they've all been exposed to a virus. There is an antidote, located in Umbrella's Alaskan lab. They have 3 weeks to get it or they'll die.

-Cut to abandoned K-mart. It's residents are Mikey (a girl), her Puerto Rican boyfriend "Runt" and hanger-on "Pockmark". Alice's convoy runs into them and they join up just in time for Dr. Issacs and a huge army of zombies to arrive on the scene. Claire leads the convoy off whilst Alice and Issacs go head-to-head. Issacs is written down as "mechanically protected", and I hope to god that means armoured vehicle and not mechwarrior. Issacs gets taken out by the two hundred or so zombies and Alice is left close to death. Claire comes in solo and drags her out of there, and they are picked up by L.J and Pockmark.

-Then comes a series of action scenes depicting the journey to Alaska. It's sort of a protracted chase sequence that involves the Yawn at its climax. Some of the extraneous characters are killed off and either Jill or Carlos bites the dust.

-Finally we reach Alaska, where the survivors find out the cure is actually in the blood of a Tyrant (described as "a towering mass of surgically constructed limbs with an empowering hand that features four extremely sharp blades") kept in cold storage. They begin a procedure and fill several vials with its blood when the operation wakes it up. "Epic" fight ensues with a "shocking conclusion".

Stupid Anderson.
