Anyone here know/like them? They're playing at Carling Academy in Brixton on saturday 9th september, I've just bought 6 tickets and should be going with about 10 people.

Will anyone else be going?

Brand new are pretty cool, i've only heard Sic Transit gloria (only single i purchased instore within the past 10 years =P) and The quiet things no one knows.

Wont be going though, still waiting for Muse or linkin park to go on tour, or i may buy panic tickets for this october.

I have their album Deja Entendu and admit I only listen to Sic and Quiet Things (and sometimes Boy Who Blocked...). Nice album though, just never listen to it in full.

Oh dear lord. Emo? Emo...?? What is the world coming to?

Haha, you can hardly criticise someone's musical integrity if you listen to POWER metal yourself.

Posted

Power metal is fantastic. What's that to do with integrity? Power Metal requires far more technical ability and knowledge of how music works, and how to structure a song than Emo or pop punk does. Why dont you like power metal? Because of the lyrics? If so, that's being a tad superficial.

I also don't just listen to Metal, I listen to a great deal of different types of music.

Just found it a tad funny how you were jumping on the bandwagon of bashing supposedely emo bands. Anyone who listens to metal knows power metal is the laughing stock of the genre anyway.

Posted

Im not jumping on the bandwagon, I truly despise emo. Emo stands for "emotional" apparently, but the music these days thats branded emo is nothing of the sort.

Power metal may be the laughing stock of metal but thats only because of bands like Helloween and Manowar who are far too cheesy for their own good, but since when are metalheads ones to care for labels? I'm gonna go ahead and listen to my Blind Guardian and Iced Earth regardless of what anyone else thinks of them.

Does it matter, its like saying the only decent computer programs are ones that really use up everything a PC can do. One of my favourite songs of the moment is a song that just uses a piano (and vocals).

That's a bit of a crap analogy right there, but what the hey, I take your point. Most of my favourite songs use just Piano or Just Guitar and Drums, maybe even two guitars. Multiple instrument's aren't what make a song complex.

Also, most emo bands are just a bunch of fools that can barely play their instruments and are riding on a wave of popularity at the moment because of stupid teens that don't know any better.

I thought you humped music that had insane mechanics and knew how the music worked

Lol, no, but the thing is, if the musician knows how to implement theory, then the song is going to be that much better isn't it? Heres the analogy: You're better equipped to express your feelings if you have a better vocabulary right? Music theory is a tool, like Vocabulary that enables you to express yourself with ease.

Completely disagree. Take bands like feeder and the stereophonics, and think about some of the songs they did. Not overly complex to construct, but they hit right home.

I think you're talking about playing rather than listening. Both are entirely different things.

Yes, I agree with you but I don't think you understand what I am saying. I have Echo Park and Comfort In Sound and I think they are great. They would be considerably less great if Grant didn't have such a great knowledge of chords and chord harmony. Most Emo bands can't even string together a series of 3 power chords.

Edit: Stereophonics are the worst "band" in existence. Fact.

What?! The stereophonics are a great band.

True, if he had less knowledge of chords etc, the sound wouldnt be as good. But, there's more to a band than just the guitarist. :p It's the vocals where some bands really excel.

Am I the only one thinking The Bard is just the stereotypical elitist forum guy because he thinks the genre he listens to is the dogs bollocks.

Yes before the smart ass comment, that is a Fall Out Boy Avatar.

As for the band Emo, sad to say I've never heard of them.

I admit I am damn elitist when it comes to music. Is it bad to be elitist? Like hell it is. I have a firm belief in the inherent superiority of some types of music over others. But then being a Grade 8, I have the right to be. My bad?? And I am anything but stereotypical. Any fool could wander in here and say that you were the stereotypical emo fag who reads kerrang as if it were his bible and listens to all those insanely overhyped emo bands (queue: MCR, Hawthorne Heights, Aiden) but would that be right? No, because unlike you, I have the sense not to stereotype someone depending on the music they listen to.

And as for your avatar I really don't give a crap, honest to god I can't think of anything I care less about.

You'd be wrong. Firstly I'm not emo. I do read kerrang, but I don't buy it. I definitely don't think its the bible, its a rag. Finally I don't like any of the bands you mentioned. In fact I hate MCR and Aiden.

[edit - removed the last part becasue as Flinky said, let's not get into fights - Ashley]

actually they are the old true emo type of band, like Morrisy (spelled it wrong I know), Fugazi, Indian Summer. The type of Emo that was part of the 80's. Not the fag emo of today with fag bands like Hawthorn Hieghts, or fall out boy.

BTW: Aiden is goth punk like AFI. MCR used to be goth punk, but they have gotten so full of themselves that they only cater to the MTv teenybopper's instead of their old true fans, which I'm sure they've lost.

Jimmy eat world is pop punk, just like Blink 182

And the Used are sell outs just like MCR.

Well to be fair it does suck the dogs bollocks

I agree with mario_jr,

How can anyone like Hawthorne Heights, i mean to they want their fans to kill themselves or something? they suck

Jimmy Eat World are one of the most solid bands out there, have you ever heard a bad JEW alb? I wouldn't class them as emo myself, but each to their own.

What i hate atm, it Sandi freaking Thom, the ammount of chavs that buy her song does my head in. Ok, i know its a pop song, but i feel like hammering them with my knowledge. I just want to ask them what kinda punk bands there into, old stuff like SexP, TClash etc., or newer stuff like Rancid etc. Then have a good old political rant with them. If only...
