What do you class as Sport?

Sport is great. Its a fun and competitive way to socialise and something productive comes out of it. But yesterday, i saw a tiddley wink championship, darts and bowls matches on the telly. Of course these sports require skill and precision, but i dont agree that they are actually sports. Assuming that if you do sport, your a sportsman, when i vision a sporty person, i think of someone fit and physical and hardworking. Not a fat man throwing a little pointy thing at a board.

Think about it. 3 wives chatting to each other, one says ' oh, my boyfriend michael jordan is such a great basketball player, he works so hard' one says 'my hubbie frank is so wonderful to watch in football for chealsea' and one says ' yeah, i have a boyfriend too, he works his heart out rolling balls down a little strip of grass'

get where im coming from?

obviously its good to have these things around though for a bit of fun every now and then at a pub, but a pub game! a sport? no!

i think gaming is a sport, i mean it improves hand to eye co-ordination.

on a serious note, i think sport is something that involves sweating. i class sport as fgetting fitter, so i rule out golf being a sport. unless for some reason you sweat when you play....

I think for something to be a sport it has to be physical and require fitness etc.

I look at say gaming or darts as activities not sport.

And I love sport. I am a massive fan of football(both to watch and play) and I play squash, tennis and do boxing.

I personally think football is the most entertaining sport in existence. A good International level game between two strong countries is a brilliant experience for everyone involved.

Isn't sport about enjoyment? Who are we to shit on someone who plays darts or bowls and has a complete blast doing so? Anything that doesn't hurt others and gives someone a great enjoyment can be a sport if they want it to be. Usually sport goes with some degree of physical acitivity and competition.

As a personal thing, I've never really classed gaming as a sport but when you stop to think about it I guess it could be a sport as much as it is a hobby. Except there isn't really much physical activity to be done with it. Guess we'll hafta wait for the Revolution.

Any competition can be counted as a sport. The problem is that the word sport is just a word used to descibe something that the dumbest of people can do / 'teach' (P.E 'Teachers')

My hands are sweaty all the time, so typing is a sport too ey!?!? And golf excersises your arms...seems as though you've never played golf or have any idea about it...I assure you that if I played golf, I would get fitter.

Your argument is flawed. :nono:

Boo, it sounds like you just don't like darts, not that you think it isn't a sport. Personally i hate football, i think that they get injured too much, over nothing and that there's waaay too much hype over it, and pisses me off when the gtood tv shows are mvoed aside because Man U are playing. But i'm not saying it isn't a sport, just that i don't like watching it/football in general, though i think playing it is fun.

Playing any sport is better than watching.

It depends how you define sport; if you have to exert yourself then darts etc. isn't sport, whereas football is. However, the line is unclear; you still need good hand eye coordination and arm muscles (to a degree) to be good at darts, so you might as well call it a sport. It gets even more complex when you include examples like chess.

Hockey is my favourite sport.

also my favourite sport to play and watch.

lawn bowls and darts are in everyway sport. have you played darts and tried to get the scores of professionals and got anywhere near here scores.

lawn bowls is even in the commonwealth games (which Australia is flogging :yay: )

i would assoicate chess as a sport.
