Dot, dot, dot...

So... looks like the base game will have a minimum of 156 character variants that are unlockable.  That's... kind of nuts! And there could even potentially be more unlockable ones than this, this is just the minimum!

The DLC for this game is gonna be scary lol!

I don't understand why they don't just have the characters and then you pick the outfits. You get to a point where scrolling through all those screens will be a pain.

And the one you want is always on the last page. (I’m looking at you, Mii Cow costume)

I just watched through it. We didn't really learn that much than what we knew already across the initial reveal and the Treehouse streams but it was nice to see it all explained in one video.

Yeah, I've very surprised it isn't handled that way. Maybe they'll have an option to change the menu to be like that, much how Smash Brothers has an option to make it so Echo fighters share the same slot on the character selection screen.

Funnily enough, I see that option as utter sacrilege.
Might come down to Echo Fighter characters being actual seperate characters. And also because there's only around 7 of them.

glances over at Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom

Yeah...I'll be honest, modern Nintendo doesn't understand good menus :p

I have nightmares about The Zelda Line chasing me down a very long horizontal alleyway.

I never played it but Mark Brown did do a video where he redesigned the echoes menu for Echoes of Wisdom. The original did look pretty tedious.

As much as they have changed things, this really is looking to be what the series needed. I think it would have sold millions if it was just another Mario Kart with new tracks and new characters with a new gimmick like anti gravity was. But this adds a whole new way to play, and I can/'t wait till me and @Glen-i actually have something to do whilst waiting for everyone else to turn up to the room on a Thursday.

While playing the demo, I never quite realised how much riding on walls can open up stuff. But seeing it in action during that Direct got me mad excited to see what kind of alternate path shenanigans are hidden there.

This made me remember we did discuss what a new entry might look like a few years back:

@Dcubed was right about it being a launch window game!

I expect that have, but I do hope Nintendo have kept plenty of secrets about the game for people to discover at launch.  The number of tracks is the biggest thing for me, as I hope they have more, including those classic tracks.  That’s likely to be a hangover from the incredible volume of tracks in MK8.

Missions returning is brilliant, as I loved this in the DS game, so hoping there are plenty of these to expand the single player experience.

Smaller things they’ve improved upon are nice to see too, such as the accessibility options (auto-accelerate, etc) being easier to find.

Like pretty much everyone has said though, there must surely be a way, either at launch or via an update, to make it easier to scroll and select your character & outfit.

I’m cautiously excited and can’t wait to play it.  It looks great, but as it’s Mario Kart you just want it to be as close to perfect as possible!

A few people mentioned adventure mode, but I only saw one mention of open world. I did say planes and hovercraft (like DKR) so I guess I was close with those. Fun reading back. Also @Glen-i was totally wrong on the costumes being a gatcha only thing. We have got loads of costumes coming in World.

I believe this was before Nintendo decided to get away from mobile games, with the Switch being a huge success.
Mobile Nintendo games were definitely a product of the WiiU flopping, and a bit of desperation, glad it didn't pan out.
Wish Pokémon spin-offs got the memo.
