What games do we expect to launch with the Nintendo Lunch then?

I think the big first-party game is 3D Mario, I've seen some online have thrown around Mario Kart, which is obviously immensely popular, but I think it'd be a strange launch title purely because I don't think it's a system seller in the same way? It's more of a game to pick up along with something else as a multiplayer option I feel.

Third-party, I genuinely have no idea. It's so hard to gauge because the Switch launch line-up felt tiny, obviously it's been a massive success, so it needs to be curated well with how these third-party games are spread out. Would love to see a port of Elden Ring or Red Dead Redemption II as a bit of a launch third-party showpiece, though.

Mario Kart 9 feels too early with them just having released the DLC for 8 Deluxe, but who knows with Nintendo.

Since it's supposedly backwards compatible, I don't see much need for a new Mario Kart right away.

"New". The current one is getting on to 10 years old!

Is that the American date format or the British one? It's the UK channel but they stopped localising spellings a while back so who knows.

Seriously Nintendo, why would you not spell out the month?

British

American channel has 4.2.25 as you'd expect

Announcing a direct 3 months away? Weird.

That's what they did with the Jan 2017 Switch Presentation, announced it within a week of when it was revealed in October 2016

That being said: totally agree. 2½ months is a weirdly long wait – makes me wonder if they're still nailing down THE launch title?

I have no idea if this is new MK or old, someone please confirm lol

Back compat confirmed*

'2025'

New. Guess I was wrong about them not doing MK9 yet.

Glad the coloured accents were real.

OOOF That's such a long wait for the direct! Looks pretty good tho, and I guess its time to upgrade to a new system this year. I'm interested to see if there's any new features, or if its just the same as the Switch 1.

I seem to recall the original having a bit more detail in it though but maybe I'm misremembering.

This felt like a bit of a nothing burger.

I thought it needed a bit more technical information. I know it's a joke at this point that Nintendo are a kids company but it felt like a toy advert. Looks at the new pretty colours, ooh it has a stand. I didn't need a full tech briefing but just a few specs would have been nice.

The original video? Yeah, it was definitely more of a concept trailer – I was more responding to the weirdness of announcing a Direct which is 3 months from now :p

Seems to me like this is more of a "fine, there's your hardware and we're not sharing anything else, now shut it"

Thanks, having not picked up or played the Booster stuff I had no idea

Agreed.

Though I think it'd look insanely better in white with the accents. A white one with just red or light blue accents would be beautiful.

Curious what games aren't backwards compatible. The Labo games?

Yeah, it'll be edge cases like Labo VR I reckon.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by the reveal to be honest, it's a shame that we only got renders and the date for the direct is so far off. Still, it's officially out there now so we'll be getting more game announcements from third parties in the interim and Mario Kart 9 does look very nice from the tiny glimpse we got of it.

The way the joy con skate around at one point in the video seems a clear sign that the mouse functionality is a genuine feature too.

I guess it would have been a pretty exciting reveal if all of the designs hadn't already leaked.
