Agreed.  I find DF Retro far more interesting than the modern stuff.

In Take-Two's annual report, they have reiterated the game's plans to release in Fall 2025.

This is before the inevitable announcement of a delay in Spring 2025 :p

Don't worry, they'll release it 14 more times anyway so you'll have plenty of chances to get it.

GTA VI and its online component will be sold separately with a story upgrade available to Online owners, reports Wccftech, along with some pricing talk and potential news of locked 30fps on base next-gen consoles, and potentially 60fps on the PS5 Pro:

Quote

Grand Theft Auto VI and Grand Theft Auto Online will be sold separately at launch, with a potential upgrade for the full game available for those who only purchase the online component of the next entry in the Rockstar series, according to rumors circulating online.

Quote

On the GTA Forums, known Rockstar leaker Tez2 said that the release of the sixth main entry in the series will coincide with the first time the full package and the online component will be sold separately at launch. According to the leaker, Rockstar Games will have to factor the price of the online component into the total cost of the game, but could benefit from pricing the online standalone lower to provide access to players who cannot afford the full price, who could, eventually, upgrade to the full game including the main story campaign.

Quote

At the same time, if the online component is priced low, it could help Rockstar Games keep the price of the full experience low, which is something many in the industry wouldn't want to see, as there are expectations that a potential $80 price tag for Grand Theft Auto VI could normalize video game pricing, which hasn't increased much in the past few years despite rising costs.

Quote

The rumors of Grand Theft Auto Online possibly being sold separately from the full Grand Theft Auto VI package isn't the only news related to the highly-anticipated game that's come in the past few hours. As reported by GamesRadar, former Rockstar Games animator, Mike York commented on what console players should expect in terms of performance, saying that the developer is likely going to go for a steady 30 FPS, optimizing the game as much as possible to make sure it will never dip below the target.

Quote

On PlayStation 5 Pro, using the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaler, the game could hit 60 FPS, according to the former Rockstar developer, but 60 FPS shouldn't be expected on base hardware at launch.

£100 (+?) GTA VI + GTA VI Online incoming.

Had a several hours long talk with a friend about this just the other day and I figured it'd be either this or a week of "earlier access" to the game ahead of launch which would get them to/around that £100 figure ::shrug:

No surprise with the performance news, either. Can already see the ad in my mind's eye and talked about this with my friends at length forever ago: "plays best on PS5 Pro".

Last year's release to help get production stock to a point that they can handle a massive spike whenever this game lands, and potentially a price cut or bundle for the Pro or standard PS5, makes a lot of sense now.

Still won't be upgrading myself, though...

Take-Two Interactive's quarterly earnings report has been released today – and they're still maintaining that GTA VI will release in Fall 2025.

“Looking ahead, this calendar year is shaping up to be one of the strongest ever for Take-Two, as we plan to launch Sid Meier’s Civilization VII on February 11th, Mafia: The Old Country in the Summer, Grand Theft Auto VI in the Fall, and Borderlands 4. We continue to invest prudently in our development pipeline and remain confident in Zynga’s potential to create new mobile forever franchises as demonstrated by their ongoing success with Match Factory. As we continue to deliver hits, we remain highly confident that we will achieve sequential increases in, and record levels of, Net Bookings in Fiscal 2026 and 2027.”

At what point are we allowed to actually start believing them?

Chris Dring of the newly minted The Game Business dropped this piece the other day about multiple AAA publishers having plans to delay out of 2025 to avoid GTA VI (not remotely unexpected).

And then comes Devolver...

Hi everyone,

Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.

We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.

With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.

We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.

Sincerely,
Rockstar Games

Glad they've got it out of the way.

Seemed inevitable with how Not-E3 is fast approaching and they'd stayed mum, and there's no way everyone could sit on their hands through June and not announce games for September/October.

I think Yōtei getting that October 2nd date the other day was the real smoking gun that this was about to go down – PlayStation probably got a heads-up and learned that they could go ahead with confirming Yōtei's release date before this got revealed (a much stronger look than doing so AFTER a GTA VI release date reveal/delay).

Anyways, Schreier chiming in:

Anyone else gutted it isn't a 6th June 2026 (Saturday so it wouldn't happen)/26th June 2026 release (a Friday so it actually could happen)? The May in that release date is killing me.

Also, a Tuesday – Rockstar's typical release day right? So guess we'll be waiting a bit longer to see if the possibility of some sort of early access through more premium editions is on the table.

Bad news for those hoping that GTA VI would somehow save the industry.

I guess it depends which face of the industry we're considering. A lot of the people saying this are analysts who are basically just doing their job by looking at graphs.

The overall industry numbers, where the higher they are the more investors come in [with totally unrealistic expectations that record-breaking years is the norm]? Sure, I totally see it, probably would have brought it in line with or had it go over COVID numbers in a bumper year where the Switch 2 also released. Especially with people now needing an excuse to escape more than ever.

On the side of developers and consumers? Yeah, I'd argue it's set to cement the path that we're on and just make things a whole lot worse ::shrug:

Yeah that was my thought too. 26/06/26 just feels better (or 06/26/26 for the weirdos).

Second trailer is up:

Vice City, USA.

Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida- forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.

Interesting that it's still just "Captured on PS5" rather than on a Pro. No doubt the Pro will get boosted performance, but I'm curious to see if a Pro patch is available at launch, and I've got to respect them going for the lowest common denominator when it comes to these trailers.

Anyways, visually it looks great, Jason is like some Paul Walker meets Channing Tatum hybrid (with a splash of Wentworth Miller, maybe?). Anyways, as was the case with [half of] the last trailer, it feels like they're leaning heavier into the story here than they have with past GTA story trailers. No doubt there'll be GTA silliness, but I wonder if they'll use the main story as a way to tell a Red Dead Redemption II level of story, and focus on the more wacky and off the rails stuff in Online? I know a lot of people feared VI could have even been completely online with some weird GAAS story a few years ago, and V obviously had story DLC cancelled given the success of Online, so this would be a nice middle ground to appease both sets of fans I feel.

Again, I feel like with Dan Houser gone now, I feel like a tonal split between the two, more than ever, makes a lot of sense. And yes, this is my way of coping knowing full well that the next Red Dead (if we get one) is like a decade away :p

So uh, am I crazy or is Lucia looking like a Latina Hailee Steinfeld?

Not that I'm complaining or anything, but even the moles aren't a million miles off...

(the one diagonally to the left between her nose and mouth is placed almost identically, the two moles to the right between her cheek and jaw have been shunted up to the chin to be more prominent but look roughly the same distance apart)
