Nope, gonna have to quickly run through Grand Prix so we're not stuck with 3 tracks per game tonight.

Anyway, finding it difficult not to burst out laughing in the middle of the night at the "Crash Out" music in GP Legend. Was not prepared for how melancholy it is!

Right, that's 15 tracks in GP Legends now. There's a secret cup, but I'm gonna leave that for now, and switch to Climax and rack up the tracks there before I attempt that.

I guess if James McCloud can be in F-Zero, why not Wolf O'Donnel as well?

Yes, that's totally Wolf! He can dye his hair all he likes, but he ain't fooling me!

Anyway, PSA for F-Zero Climax, the controls are proper weird. They're fully customisable, but in a bizarre move, you can't have all of the controls active at once.

What does this mean? Well, as an example. By default, you cannot brake in this game! You have to assign it to a button! And that means giving up a different feature!

However, it's in Japanese, but someone thankfully made a handy chart so you can figure out what it all means.

Oh, did I mention there's unlockable controls? Because there is! This game is wild!

Need to find a GBA so I can get my custom track passwords. Actually, it'd probably be quicker to just recreate them in the editor! :laughing:

Oh, I'm glad you mentioned that! It's quite remarkable how disinterested he is! Not a fan. And he's back in Climax, but now he's annoying because he keeps telling me how I'm about to lose the lead!

Anyway, I actually kinda really like GP Legend so far. I haven't touched Story mode yet, but this is the first F-Zero game I've played where the "Easy" difficulty actually is easy, and not just "Still hard, but at least the CPU doesn't cheat".

Also, Grip actually has a tangible effect! I don't really dig F-Zero X or GX, because grip might as well not exist, you still slide everywhere. But here, there's a noticeable improvement between Blue Falcon's "B" and Space Angler's "A". Taking 90 degree turns at full pelt is very satisfying!

Climax is a little more slippery, but not too much. CPU's are a bit more cheaty there, even on easy. They take turns at speeds that I know is impossible.

And finally, the tracks in GP Legend are positively insane! And I mean that in a good way. One track, I think the fourth one, has a speed boost leading right into a jump panel. Obvious shortcut opportunity, right? Except that it was a complete trap, because there's absolutely nothing out there! The tracks love this, but there are also proper shortcuts, alternate paths, choices between healing and speed. It's all so exciting.

This game's great, and there's still two modes I haven't touched.

Phew, unlocked every stage (and variant of every stage, think Wave Race 64) just in time.

Not every machine, mind you. That takes a lot more time, and skill. Doubt I could pull that off.

Multiplayer in GP Legends is a tad... let's go with unbalanced.

I'm no F-Zero expert, but even I know the side attack shouldn't do that much damage.

But yeah, it's fun. Kinda have to put up house rules to punish blowing up in some way, otherwise people will just boost all the time, because boosting until you blow up is still quicker then driving in a way that prevents exploding. Which I can't help goes against the risk/reward thing the boost system is supposed to do.

Finally!

This game needs an NSO release SO bad! Massively looking forward to playing the original N64 version at more than 5 FPS! :D

Anyway, before a better game comes along, we've still got F-Zero Climax to try!

Even when BT comes out, it's gonna take quite some time to unlock all the multiplayer modes; as it's a pretty meaty game (you unlock each multiplayer mode by beating each minigame in the main single player mode... as well as finding some pretty well hidden secrets and cheats... you know the ones...).

So we'll probably have to wait until November 1st before we can really play BT's mutiplayer mode proper.  That's fine though, it gives you guys a chance to play through it (and you'll need to if you want to stand a chance in Tower of Tragedy ;)).

And just when we thought we'd played all of the courses in the game (excluding the variations) but at least this course could just be played and unlocked in the single player, though it could be fun to try it in multiplayer.

Ah I see, it's a course made in the creator mode, still cool though, a course made by someone who worked on the game, I can see from the course outline, that it's a simplistic course if you just stick to the outside (if I'm understanding it correctly) but if you want any of your ships evergy restored, then you have to venture into the middle where the "20" is, but if you just want to race, then I'd have thought you'd just stick to the outside route.

That's so cool! It's almost like having new DLC for a 20 year old game! :D

What a great idea! Nintendo should do this with their older titles that have custom stage/character makers!

Worth noting that if you want to play this in multiplayer, everyone needs to have it on their cartridge. So one person needs to use the password, but they can then share it with everyone else via the "Link Cable".

Banjo-Tooie's available now.

My only advice? Don't forget to talk to all of Bottle's kids at his house. There's a minor optional move there that you can't go back to get after a certain point.

EDIT: Oh, and don't forget widescreen. Select the TV on the file select screen. It shouldn't tank the framerate like the original version.

"Superbanjo" might just be one of the greatest cheat codes in gaming history. So simple, so effective! You can't do that on the XBox version (Unless you don't want to save).

Anyway, @BowserBasher and @S.C.G. The mini games are all unlocked from the get-go. So we'll be playing Tooie tonight at 8:30pm. It's got it all; quiz shows, Mario Party style mini games, a Goldeneye rip-off...

I don't think @Dcubed can make it tonight, so there's a free spot going if anyone wants it.

Spent a literal hour trying to get that last Cheato page off of her, which meant that I went over 10 hours because of her. Would've been even more if I didn't end up resorting to cheating and using save states for the Cheato page race.
Again, if you know, you'll agree I was utterly justified! No regrets!

This sums it up perfectly.

Despite that minigame (Because believe me, it's BS of the highest degree) I still love this game, and I still believe it's the best Single Player game the N64 has to offer (Pretty great multiplayer one too). It's great to finally play it at a great framerate, with no compromises. No borked controls, no cutscene desyncing, no impossible final boss, and the Nintendo references intact.

It's perfect!

Oh, and if you follow me on Twitter, you might have noticed me going absolute ham on unintended tricks and sequence breaks courtesy of "Superbanjo", I've got loads! It's fun to pull those shenanigans.

Banjo-Tooie's so good, it's worth the risk of tearing apart the fabric of time!

EDIT: In case you were serious, it did release yesterday, but at around 2 am. Insomnia has some silver linings.
