Some of the trophies looked a bit of a nightmare which is why I bought the Switch version. Having played the game I can confirm that going for the platinum would require a fair bit of luck and grinding. Getting the full amount of stars on every race/drifting challenge and unlocking every key would be an absolute pain to do.

Urgh don't know what it is about Sonic games and difficult trophies!

Sonic Forces was grindy, but a pleasing platinum in the end!

I still don't know which console. Will make my mind up today before going to Argos after work.

Just ordered this from base.com on Switch for £28.85.

Hopefully it runs ok, I would have much preferred 60fps but Switch is now my only console.

For peace of mind, I played both in handheld and docked modes and both ran fine.

So, Sega put an advert out for this... :D

Not a bad effort from the marketing department. ;)

Happy launch day, as the game actually comes out today, I was going to see if I could write a review by today for it but alas...

...interestingly there aren't any/many reviews out for the Switch version (or not recorded on Metacritic anyway) :indeed: so I think a lot of review outlets just covered other versions.

Anyway... soon, I've just got to finish up the main story mode and then I'll put something together but ultimately I ended up enjoying the game more with each play session. :peace:

Lol, nice cameo by Takashi Iizuka there. :hehe:

Not too many races in but not sure what to think of this.

Early impressions are that I'm not blown away. I remember the older Sonic racing games grabbing me instantly, and I loved them, but this is leaving me a little cold and I'm not sure why.

The tracks I've played so far are a little bit boring and not memorable in the slightest and the handling doesn't feel as nice as something like MK which was never previously an issue in the older games.

I'll play more today as I'm off work and see how it treats me.

It seems that the Switch version is missing the opening cinematic, most likely due to storage constraints on the cartridges - the game is 7 GB without the opening movie so including that would have made them go up to 16 GB cartridges which are more expensive.

Here it is, though, for anyone to enjoy:

The cost of the higher storage carts is really screwing Switch owners over. :( I wonder if the opening cinematic is available for those who downloaded the game from the eShop? I imagine not but it would be funny if it was. :D

I'll be trading this in tomorrow.

Think it's garbage if I'm honest. Most of the reviews I've seen are very positive, but they don't reflect my experience at all. Boring tracks, which are repeated way too often, awful mission modes which often don't make too much sense in terms of how you actually earn points. Items are a bit underwhelming and they feel pointless at times.

As a kart racer I think it's pretty rubbish which was not my experience with the previous Sonic racing game that I loved.

I find it just a bit of a drag to play.

Wisps were a mistake, I can't tell what half of them are meant to do and with items that is half the fun of a mascot kart racer.

Another issue is the restrictive nature of just Sonic themed tracks, with all the different franchises and characters in All Stars Racing there was a lot more variety and potential. I do think it's a huge downgrade overall. The team Mechanic is the only redeeming feature of the game, but it just makes the non team racing even less substantial and dull to play.

They should just (And I know some people would be against this) port All Stars Racing Transformed to Switch

Agreed.

The biggest mistake they made was just sticking exclusively to Sonic characters.

I always did love me some Pudding. :(

It also felt to me like I'd played the tracks before? Have they taken any of these tracks from previous versions? They feel very familiar. Which is not a good thing.

I have to say the actual mechanic of the 'team' racing didn't appeal much to me either. Maybe I'm just so accustomed to looking to win as a solo amongst the pack but I found myself not really being bothered about where my team mates were in the race. Using the boost mechanic by tailing them was nice, but that aside the item giving / taking felt very much like a gimmick to me.

Such a shame, I was so excited for this game.

For what it's worth, I had been enjoying Team Sonic Racing based on its own merits.

However, I too would also like to have seen a port of Sega and Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed for Switch, in addition to this.

There's easily room for both I feel but the compromise would have been somewhere inbetween the two racing games.

Sunshine Coast was taken from Transformed (albeit stripped of its flying and boating mechanics of course).

Don’t know if any others were (I don’t have STR).

Ahh yeah it did feel familiar. I think it may just be Sega's obsession with casino levels too that makes that particular one feel like I've been there before.

Nice to see that the Switch version turned out very well! Shame about the XboneS version though.

After the last batch of terrible Switch ports, it's refreshing to actually see a 3rd party developer give a toss about the Switch version of their game! :D
