Ashley Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 My mother keeps asking me what I want for my birthday and other than Kubo I can't think of anything. Games are kind of out because I've already got a huge backlog. Ideally something from a shop but internet is fine as long as delivery is in the next few weeks. Also can't cost that much, so as much as I want a Surface Book Pro I'm not asking for it Just looking for different things. Mooched around the shops yesterday but nothing inspired me.
Happenstance Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 My birthday is next week and ive had the same problem. No idea what I can tell anyone to get me.
bob Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Cake, jelly, ice cream. Perhaps a clown? Pin the tail on the donkey.
Ashley Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 Cake, jelly, ice cream. Perhaps a clown? Pin the tail on the donkey. I will probably have cake, I can't eat jelly and I'm going to a place that sells gelato. Clowns are evil. Are you free then?

sumo73 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Any Blu-ray's or DVD's that you want to get? Maybe some learning materials for studying Italian (at your level)? A decent Italian grammar book perhaps?
Ashley Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 Asked for Kubo and honestly that's all I can think of! I've got a few learning materials. Might ask for Norwegian Wood (the book) in Italian as I've read it a few times in English and it might be good to give it a go.

Dunno if that's a problem. Edit 2: Oh and it's not out yet.. 22-02 Edited January 24, 2017 by Sméagol
Ashley Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 I do want to see that but a) its out on blu-ray after my birthday and b) seems to only be in French. I know its not out here until May in cinemas
Sméagol Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I do want to see that but a) its out on blu-ray after my birthday and b) seems to only be in French. I know its not out here until May in cinemas It's my personal (but not realistic) Oscar favourite, and one of my favourite films of 2016. Visually not nearly as impressive as Kubo, but I actually didn't like the story of Kubo that much.. This is funny and (bitter)sweet, and just excellent. But I guess you'll have to wait. Maybe one of the original Japanese Ghibli blu-rays? They have awesome covers and they all have subtitles. Want to get them myself one day.
Naar Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 I always ask for money because they always manage to buy me something i dont want/like/need. Cash in, go online shopping:
Ashley Posted January 25, 2017 Author Posted January 25, 2017 I've got most Ghibli films on DVD or blu-ray, and I'm trying to keep physical media to a minimum. Maybe this is why people don't know what to get me... Oh and I will be getting cash from my father's side of the family as they don't bother with anything else, but I feel like its my 30th so I should get stuff.
MoogleViper Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Are books an option? Cosmetics? Housewares? My parents just give me underwear and cash for birthday/christmas. They said that they've given up trying to find something for me. Apparently I'm difficult to buy for.
Rummy Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Books clothes or money would probably be my almost-thirty-soon-too kind of shout. My mum's pretty good at buying stuff for me so I'm usually quite happy with her getting me clothes! Otherwise money is just useful because you can put it to almost anything; even if it feels a bit weak as a present(i honestly don't mind tho).
Eenuh Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 I've usually got exactly the same problem (plus we almost share the same birthday, so I'm in the same situation right now). My parents usually just give me an Amazon voucher as it's difficult to think of things to get. From Jim I might get games or perfume, though this year there aren't any games out that I want, and I already have plenty of perfume! With my sisters, we agreed that we are just not gonna bother buying presents for each other anymore, as it's too difficult being in different countries. There are usually things I would want/could use, but they are bloody expensive! :P Maybe you can try asking for money to go towards a holiday, or tickets to something specific (like going to an event, festival or concert etc.)?
Shorty Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 How about some nice artwork for the wall, a framed poster or print.
Ashley Posted January 26, 2017 Author Posted January 26, 2017 Hmm art isn't a bad shout, if we ignore the whole transporting it back to London after. Maybe I'll have a look through some photos and get a print. What isn't helping is my aversion to physical goods as I'm constantly considering leaving the country I did also think maybe a six month subscription to Edge as I usually pick it up.
Ashley Posted January 26, 2017 Author Posted January 26, 2017 Alcohol? Tickets to a show? You asking me out? A good wok Ha this is different. I don't think I've cooked noodles or anything for about 3 years (although I know a wok can be used for other things).
Naar Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 A cool onesie. If you're a Pokémon freak you ask for a Pikachu one, if you're a fan of racoons you ask for a.... you get the picture. Love onesies. <3
