Retro_Link Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) Project CARS Now Headed to Xbox One, PS4, and Valve’s Steam OS Need for Speed Shift developer Slightly Mad Studios has announced that its crowd-funded racing title Project CARS will now be coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Steam OS in 2014. “Project CARS has always led the pack in terms of insane detail,” said head of studio Ian Bell in a statement. “Whether that’s graphically in the craftsmanship of our cars and tracks, technically in the way we’ve approached weather and time of day, or emotionally in how each car feels and responds to your touch.” “These powerful new platforms allow us therefore to not compromise on the quality of our vision and ultimately that means players are going to experience something truly breathtaking when they get behind the wheel.” Project CARS will be available for the PS4, Xbox One, Steam OS, PC, and Wii U later next year. Versions for Xbox 360 and PS3 are no longer mentioned. “Tens of thousands” of fans have already been playing in-development builds of Project CARS on PC as Slightly Mad Studios works towards the finished project. Cookyman Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 “Project CARS has always led the pack in terms of insane detail,” said head of studio Ian Bell in a statement. “Whether that’s graphically in the craftsmanship of our cars and tracks, technically in the way we’ve approached weather and time of day, or emotionally in how each car feels and responds to your touch.” So now in terms of insanely detailed racing games we have GTA6, Forza, Drive Club and Project CARS. Do we really need another insanely detailed racing game? To be honest you could look at the trailer and stick any of the others games names at the end of it and nobody would bat an eyelid. I'm sure Wii U owners are excited it's coming to their console but I'm just a bit meh about it.
Cube Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 It will be the Wii U and PS4s first racing sim, plus one for PC.
Rummy Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 The idea/ethos behind this game is what intrigues me most. Normally, it'd be a game I couldn't really give two shits about, but I'm very tempted to support the end product with a purchase just because of how it's all come about.
Ganepark32 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Wow, just wow! There were genuinely times watching that where it looked pretty much like real life.
Retro_Link Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Yeah you're right, that looks insanely good! End of the year is packed with racers!
MadDog Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Been playing this on my PC. Looks and plays superbly on ultra settings. It's just amazing, much prefer it to Driveclub (which is a very good game). I really like the career mode, and how you progress all the way from karting to LMP1 racing and F1, or the equivalent, it isn't licensed obviously. :p I'd put this game just behind Gran Turismo on the realism scale, and a long way from Driveclub. It's pretty much perfect for me. If you're unsure because you already have Driveclub, it's defiantly worth a look, as it's a much different experience.
gaggle64 Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Think I might spring for this, I actively avoided Driveclub because of the driving model but this is exactly what I want for my PS4. When the new F1 game comes out I'll be all set for racers.
liger05 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I like the game but it feels unfinished. They clearly couldn't delay it again after so many delays already. The default settings for the pad are abysmal. Shocking it shipped with those. Had some strange bugs as well. When pitting and the AI take over the AI crashed into a barrier. I had a race which goes from day to night and when night came my car had no lights so it became a task just to see the corners. My hud has changed automatically where I know no longer see the position I'm in or the amount of fuel left in the tank. When I go to Hud settings it looks fine but after then going back into race it defaults back to something I don't want.
gaggle64 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I really like this game, it really hits the sweet spot for me. It's simmy enough to be a real challenge but not so simmy you have to be insane to enjoy it. I like that everything's unlocked from the get-go and yo can just randomize a whole event if you want a quick challenge. Looks good with 30+ cars on track too.
The Bard Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 From the looks of it there'll be new tracks and cars free every month too. Just bought a fancy steering wheel as well. Really liking this, but it's also my first sim so I'm not going to have the worlds most informed opinion on how it compares to GT or Forza.

Can't imagine you with a steering wheel with your head sticking out over the top of it.

I know man I've kept as far from the genre as possible, but sometimes you try something new just for the fuck of it and it ends up being more fun than you ever thought it would be. It's the same with you and getting a PS4, and being able to try all those gaming goodies you never had access to before . I haven't tried something genuinely new to me for a long ass time so the novelty of this is tingling my giblets.

If you're using a pad, it's left on the d-pad to cycle through them. Maybe that's why stuff has disappeared?
gaggle64 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) In my view it's slightly more simmy than your typical Forza or Gran Tourismo. The options to get really scarily into it exist (you can adjust the pressure on each individual tyre) but you can ignore those finer options and play it all just fine. Plenty of the usual assists and AI adjustments and the like. Got me thinking if a Thrustmaster T80 is worth the cash. Playing around with the weather & daylight settings is cool too. I don't think my knowledge is acute enough at this point to even notice what those options would do. I do love setting the weather to thunderstorm and slipsliding a McLaren P1 around the azure coast (which I think is a fictional track?) The T80 looks super high end. I got this whole monstrosity
gaggle64 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 There's a lot going on with that thing I'm not sure how to process.

MadDog Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 The karts seem broken to me. They handle terribly. I'm not keen on them either, maybe that's what they're like irl? I've no idea. :p When you put it all together they can be shit loads of fun, but that's a hard ask. Otherwise they can be frustrating.
gaggle64 Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 So apparently 22 Ford Escorts is too much Ford Escort for the Monaco circuit. I think I'll try 36 next. For science!
The Bard Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 This game has taken 40 hours of my life and I've done one campaign season. It's so so good.

The Bard Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Upload some laps of you tackling Nurburgring! Would love to see how good you are I've got a couple of good replays saved, one of Nurburgring and one of Watkins Glen where I absolutely slew that shit. But I can't figure out how to upload 'em
