Daft Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) So there a rumblings of Infamous 3 and comments got me wondering which was the best new franchise Sony released this generation. And now I want to compile a list of all new exclusive franchises (more than one game, sorry no Journey or Flower) this gen because it has been like 7 years and that is an epic amount of time. I have no idea about Nintendo so help with that and anything else I've missed. I went through metacritic and looked through all the games that scored from 70 - 100, too. Looking over it quickly I am sad that Heavenly Sword never got a follow up. Would have been nice to alternate between that and God of War (that agin, I guess we've only really had one GoW this generation). Sony Infamous LittleBIGPlanet Uncharted Modnation Resistance Motorstorm Starhawk Sports Champion (Glow Stick Edition) Microsoft Viva Pinata Forza Gears of War Kinect Sports/Adventure/Blah Crackdown (Part of me thinks this shouldn't count because the sequel was both awful and used the same map as the first game...but that's just me.) Dance Central 'Splosion Man Nintendo Wii Sports Wii Fit Boom Blox Red Steel The Conduit Multi-Platform Bioshock Assassin's Creed Modern Warfare Portal Mass Effect Borderlands Darksiders Dead Space Crysis Left 4 Dead Trine Saints Row That awful pretender to Infamous' throne, Prototype Joe Danger GRID DJ Hero Dead Rising Minecraft Metro 20XX Batman: Arkham Whatevs de Blob Lost Winds Just Dance Army of Two Kayne & Lynch (@Cube - shudder) Call of Juarez DiRT Condemned de Blob Epic Mickey F.E.A.R. Lost Planet No More Heroes Risen Skate The Forced Unleashed Supreme Commander Test Drive Unlimited The Darkness Tom Clancy's H.A.W.XTransformers: Fall of Cybertron Two Worlds The Witcher Shank DeathSpank Demon/Dark Souls I will be adding to this. EDIT: Also, I am not including handheld because there's no way am I trawling through a seaof DS and PSP games and they aren't really part of this generations. They're a portable generation. So no. Comments: MORE Viva Pinata please Microsoft. Edited January 23, 2013 by Daft
Lens of Truth Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 The Wii didn't produce many 'franchises', as most of its original gems haven't got sequels (yet). I'd love to see the Xenoblade universe revisited at some point, but it will probably remain a glorious one off. There were, however: - Lost Winds - Elebits (DS sequel) - Little King's Story - de Blob The latter two both now multiplat. Really does put into perspective the difference in 'approach' between systems!
Cube Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) Nintendo Endless Ocean Pullbox Mario & Sonic Olympics Microsoft Alan Wake (there was a second, downloadable game) Crackdown Multi Army of Two Kayne & Lynch (shudder) Arkham Call of Juarez DiRT Condemned de Blob Epic Mickey F.E.A.R. Lens of Truth Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 How could I forget Endless Ocean! Never managed to play the second though.

I wikied Alan Wake and the downloadable one is not a sequel so I rejected it. Mario & Sonic at the Olympics can sod off. Just Cause just clips the end of the previous generation. --- I'm pretty sure I'm missing a big Microsoft one. Edited January 23, 2013 by Daft
Oxigen_Waste Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I'd love to see the Xenoblade universe revisited at some point, but it will probably remain a glorious one off. One off? Oo Xenogears is as good as or arguably better than Xenoblade. Xenosaga supposedly sucks, though. I don't get why people like to pretend the other Xeno games didn't exist... Oo
Daft Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 NO HANDHEEEEEEELDS!!!!!! NEIN. NIET. NO. NADA. Home consoles. Sorry. And I will only include iPad/iPhone if the game remains virtually unchanged. Edit: Also, dude, it's called Pullblox. ...unless that was a typo.

They changed the title from Monado: Beginning of the World simply as compliment Tetsuya Takahashi (and because it's a better title).

They changed the title from Monado: Beginning of the World simply as compliment Tetsuya Takahashi (and because it's a better title). It feels like one, plays like one, made by the same team as Xenosaga and is named like one. Takahashi IS the Xeno feel... The game IS a Xeno game, through and through.

Cube Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Edit: Also, dude, it's called Pullblox. ...unless that was a typo. It's not the first time I've got the name wrong. I had a look at home console downloadable games: Assault Heroes Naughty Bear (worst new franchise) Shank 'Splosion Man (Microsoft) DeathSpank

The game IS a Xeno game, through and through. The devs themselves have basically said the name was tacked-on, I but I take your points. You do realise I was saying it wasn't a Wii franchise though right? And only speculating/hoping that Xenoblade Chronicles gets a likely-prequel, specifically within the same world (bit different to another similar RPG with the Xeno prefix added ).
Daft Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 I'm wondering if Trials HD would count for Microsoft. Is that based on the original PC flash game version?
Cube Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I'm wondering if Trials HD would count for Microsoft. Is that based on the original PC flash game version? The same developer made Trials 2: Second Edition, which is based on the Flash one. Looking at that list, I don't know how anyone could say that there was no innovation on the 360/PS3.
Retro_Link Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) Sony Sports Champions 1 & 2 --- Man it does Sony a major injustice/disservice not including their games with so far only one edition! Can I at least list them so I have a place to stare at them and savour Sony's success at doing so this generation?... :p Flower Journey The Unfinished Swan Heavy Rain Heavenly Sword Playstation All Stars Battle Royale The Last of Us Beyond: Two Souls Until Dawn The Puppeteer... dwarf Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Never got round to buying Condemned, I played the demo yonks back and remember enjoying it. Copies upon copies reside in the bargain bins these days so it might be worth a shot.
Daft Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 Demon's Souls This was a weird one. Don't Sony own the Demon Soul's IP but Dark Souls is pretty much a sequel that's a different IP but virtually the same thing? Whatevs, I'll wack it up. Sony Sports Champions 1 & 2 --- Man it does Sony a major injustice/disservice not including their games with so far only one edition! First of, there's a second Sports Champion game? LOL WUT? Amazing. Terrible. I'll put it up. And second, yeah, it is but it just makes that list of games that have 'franchised' even more impressive. Sony have smashed it out the park this gen. But everyone knows where I stand on that matter. Minecraft isn't a sequel? This is true. It's been through so many updates it just blurrrrrrred into a franchise in my head. It shall be removed.
Andyliini Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Nintendo: The Conduit Multiplatform: Blue Dragon (strange enough, all the games are exclusive to their consoles, but the series is multiplatform) Cant think of more, altough Wii Fit did recieve a sequel-update-whatever.
Daft Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 The Conduit, how could I forget. It was stand-out generic. As in stunningly generic. Didn't know it got a sequel. Not going to include Blue Dragon because it sequel-ed into a handheld game. Wii Fit added.
Cube Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 This is true. It's been through so many updates it just blurrrrrrred into a franchise in my head. It shall be removed. In a way, it is a franchise - it's massive. It even has an official LEGO set.
Daft Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 I'll keep it stikeout-ed as a compromise.
Jonnas Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) NO HANDHEEEEEEELDS!!!!!! NEIN. NIET. NO. NADA. Home consoles. Weird restriction (especially since it includes games where only the sequels were handheld) nevermind, it's only Elebits you're not counting. Little King's Story has a sequel on the Vita, by the way, so it's weird you're counting that one, but not Elebits. Edited January 23, 2013 by Jonnas
