PlayStation 4 Console Discussion

I think I've got 3 now; Walking Dead, Rocket League and Diablo 3.

Trophies can be very fun to try and get, all depends on the game and how sadistic the developers are!

There are a few things I like about trophies. One thing is that you get an extra reward for reaching the end of the game, or doing certain things within it (like completing a chapter). They can also be pretty good at getting you to do things that you normally wouldn't do in a game.

There are definitely annoyances, though. Certain trophies can be an absolute pain in the arse to get and then it becomes more about getting the trophy than enjoying the game. Shadow of Mordor was an excellent game and I platinumed it, but it was a pain in the arse to do certain trophies here and there.

I've two platinums so far. Shadow of Mordor and The Walking Dead. Close to platinuming Rocket League. Not sure if I'll do it for The Witcher 3 as it requires you to do it on the hardest setting...maybe....

Some games are genuine torture. Others just give them away.

Just don't feel the pressure anymore :p If its a game you like it certainly gives you something to do.

(Apologies that I basically always ask this question every once in a while then never buy the thing...but this may be the real thing! :p)

Marcamillian has just caved and bought a PS4 for MGS(no interest myself) but it's making me itchy. REALLY ITCHY. Tempted tempted tempted. My energy company always overcharged me so I'm thinking of sensibly getting back the money they owe me and sticking it right on a PS4 and plus rather than the mortgage. What's the good things for me to be picking up? Obvs TLOU's been recommended, though I'm maybe thinking some of the smaller/cheaper titles etc. Thinking I might pick it up towards end of the month or October to entertain me in my abstinence(and after the buzz of Mario Maker fades).

Tomb Raider

The Last of Us

Infamous

Until Dawn

The Order 1886

Journey

Metal Gear Solid V

Rocket League

Drive Club

Far Cry 4

Valiant Hearts

Batman

Bloodborne

If you are dead set on getting one may I suggest you get PS+ as well. Even if you don't play online much, the games you get each month easily make up for the price you pay.

Fuck sake, @Rummy.

Get this, The Witcher 3, Rocket League and all of the other pieces will fall into place.

Even @Ronnie is getting in on the act!

A few new details about whats coming in the 3.0 update.

Events: A new hub for events has been added, giving an overview of activities taking place in the games you play most, as well as official broadcasts. For instance, you may see an update for a double XP weekend, a special enemy appearing at a scheduled time, or seasonal events like in-game towns being decorated for the winter.

YouTube live: PS4 owners will be able to live stream gameplay to YouTube. Live streams will be viewable across YouTube, including on the new YouTube Gaming mobile app and website.

Online storage capacity increase: PlayStation Plus members’ PS4 cloud storage capacity will increase from 1GB to 10GB:yay:

Favourite Groups: Favourite Groups has been added to the Friends app, letting you add new or existing groups as a Favorite Group and quickly access groups of people you like to play games with frequently. This will make the process of getting a game session up and running even easier.

Communities: PS4 users will have the ability to create communities based around shared interests, like games, genres and more. Communities include a message board with general discussion, screenshots shared by players and the ability to join parties or games. If you want to tackle a big multiplayer raid, but don’t have enough friends, this could be a great way to connect with other likeminded players.

Sharing video clips to Twitter: Users will have the ability to share video clips directly to Twitter. The maximum video length is 10 seconds, but you’ll have the ability to trim longer clips.

Live from PlayStation: We’ve added the ability for users to view popular broadcasts, video clips and screenshots on the Live From PlayStation area

Screenshots: We’ve listened to your feedback and we’re happy to confirm that PNG format is now an option for Screenshot saves

Now Playing: The Now Playing screen will display more information about what your friends are doing, and you’ll be able to quickly jump into a party, request a screen share, or jump to PlayStation Store to buy a game your friend is playing.

Request to watch: Want to view a friend’s gameplay session? Now you can send a ‘Request to Watch’ notification to a player, which will start a live broadcast or Share Play invitation to the person playing.

Stickers: Tired of typing out messages? With this update, you’ll be able to send stickers to friends through the messages.

Yeah I think those two are on my list. Maybe Geometry Wars too, and some cheap Plus too(dunno how cheap one can get it). Some of the social aspects of this console tho! Just reading Hero's post above...man, it really does seem to be on the money. Out of interest do you guys tend to chill and chat when you're online/playing or only when you're playing together? Also what recommendations would anyone make for a not terrible but sub-£20 headset?

Amazing update. My friend told me about the cloud storage upgrade after I kept badgering him.

'Request to watch' is an interesting addition. Could make streaming happen a little more between friends.

also, I've felt consoles have needed an events thing for so long now. Really think it's a brilliant idea. I hope that it record game usage too, or if not now, at some point in the future.

Edit:

@Rummy, tbh the earpiece that comes with is pretty good. I don't think you'd need another unless you were going for the Playstation Gold headset.

I do with my nephew and lostmario. It depends what im playing really. If im just trophy hunting or not in a game for the story then I like to have the general banter with people.

I remember last year I was sat talking to Blade, lostmario and Kav while I was simply just sitting watching the X-Factor. An argument broke out about whether Cheryl Cole hot or not. :D Good times.

As for the headset, I just use the earpiece you get with the console. It's worked fine for me and I haven't had any issues with it at all.

Ahhh cool! Didn't realise it comes with one! Watch this space for another adopter soon...

That was something that jumped out at me actually. Whilst I've little interest in playing MGS, I might not mind watching Marcamillian play through and a feature like that's pretty awesome to be able to just watch and chat with someone whilst they run through games. Probably won't have quite the same edge as doing it in person, but be interesting to see how it feels in comparison.

You know, we could have an 'KNEE plays Until Dawn' session. Send Requests to Watch, even pass the virtual controller around.

HOW FUCKING RAD WOULD THAT BE?!

It's like living in the future.

I don't do an awful lot of the online gaming stuff, mainly because I've been heavily into the single player types or aspects of games like Bloodborne (although that has got a multi), The Witcher 3, Arkham Knight, Alien Isolation, the plus games, etc.

When I went online with things like FIFA and Battlefield, it was a chance to socialise whilst gaming. I probably would like to get into that side of things more when I get another more multiplayer orientated game, like Battlefront. Soon.jpeg

Just get it, dammit. You know you're going to get one at some point and you may as well jump in and enjoy it now rather than wait to hopefully save a couple of quid. There's some awesome deals floating around, plus the catalogue is expanding. Things are just getting better, too.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking - just got to get the latest bill then ask for my own damn money back. Is there a decent party chat system for ps4? Like regardless of if were in multi could I just be playing witcher chatting to you playing FIFA whilst HoT's playing Rocket League?

Party Chat is a built-in app. It runs like Spotify does in the sense that it's independent to the game. So, the example you posted is possible. You don't need to be playing the same game in order to chat. You don't even need to be playing anything at all. It's its own separate thing.

I thought there was - but I recall when I used to actually play my PS3 the tiny bit I did that the chat features weren't particularly great compared to that of what I was used to with my 360, so just wanted to be sure it had moved on to something decent! I don't actually know how much I'll be party chatting, probs more one on one but just good to know it's there! Used to love just sitting in party chat on 360 and gassing with folks as we were all doing our own thing after a halo sesh or so!

The party chat on PS4 is really great. With the Destiny DLC around the corner the Destiny clan will be on party chat a lot for plenty of banter. Speaking of which... in 12 days Destiny will be available for around £40 with all DLC old and new....

Pfft, I used to play my NES at home on one game and chat to my friend over the phone while he was playing another!

Interesting...how much would all the DLC cost otherwise? Just wondering whether a second-hand+DLC would save a few quid.

Also does the PS4 install all games to the hard drive? I'll still get a 500GB model and looked to upgrade myself, just wondering how fast I might end up running out of space.

No, you will literally be savng all of the moneyz if you just by the new Taken King. TTK expansion DLC is £40 on PSN. The entirety of Destiny including all the previous DLC and The Taken King is £42 on Amazon.

It's a joke.

The PS4 installs like 95% of games to the HDD, and you want it to because the optical drive is the system's weak link in terms of speed. You will probably run out of space eventually, especially if you make a lot of videos... but you can upgrade to a laptop sized drive. I upgraded to 2TB for £60 about 8 months into owning my system.

I reckon you would love Destiny, raiding, PvPing and party chatting with the clan :D There's a very long demo available on the PSN store.

Yeah a few different people I know have mentioned it over the last month or two - the social aspect of it is definitely a draw as it sounds like just the thing I'd enjoy and keep me playing. I don't think I can wait to hear about my money and I might just order the thing tonight along with some Plus - make do with the games from there and maybe pick up WatchDogs as it's apparently only a tenner in CEX. I'll get The Witcher later(sorry FLink). Gonna have a scout for best deals now...

EDIT:£300 for a white from Argos with 2 of: Minecraft, TLOU, DriveClub, TheOrder, GodOfWar3, LBP3 or HellDivers Super Earth... vs £280 for a Black with 2 of: GodOfWar3, The Order, LBP3 or Minecraft...

£299 at Argos at the moment. You can get it with MGSV or pick 2 games from a selection which include The Last of Us and The Order 1886.

Shopto has the same Metal Gear deal but you also get 3 months of Plus with it.

GAME have a bundle with The Last of Us and God of War 3 for £299 or with Until Dawn for the same price.

EDIT: You beat me. :D
