arab_freak Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Yesterday, I had just installed Linux on my 2GB iPod nano. Not only can I play videos, but I can also play 3D games on it. I'm playing the original Half-Life as we speak, followed by a short game of iDoom. What a great way to welcome the new year.
arab_freak Posted December 31, 2005 Author Posted December 31, 2005 Must be shite to control Oh, not at all. MENU = move forward Play/Pause = Fire Center = Action (open doors, switches, etc) Rewind = Look left Forward = Look right I wish I could use the hold button as pause, and the click wheel to look around. Now that I'm watching video, here's what I plan to do. *Walk into Apple store* Me: Excuse me, I have a question. Can the iPod nano play videos? Clerk: No, I'm sorry. Only the iPod video can play them. Me: STOP LYING YOU FUCKING CHEAPSKAKE *whips out nano and plays video* Clerk: OMFG!

Now that i would like to see, get someone to film you so we can see it
arab_freak Posted December 31, 2005 Author Posted December 31, 2005 Now that i would like to see, get someone to film you so we can see it Can't, seeing as the file will probably be too large for hosting, even putfile.
AshMat Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 How long is this going to b? I've watched 8 minute movies on putfile before now, this wont be more than 5 minutes surely
arab_freak Posted December 31, 2005 Author Posted December 31, 2005 How long is this going to b? I've watched 8 minute movies on putfile before now, this wont be more than 5 minutes surely Oh alright. I'll tell my friend to bring his Sony handycam.
arab_freak Posted December 31, 2005 Author Posted December 31, 2005 Too bad you voided your warranty. Not if I format it and restore the original firmware.
demonmike04 Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 How do you do this? I'd like to play video's on my ipod nano..
Bluejay Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Pretty cool, but I can't imagine the controls being playable at all, still an amazing achievement.
Ramar Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Too bad you voided your warranty. Couldn't agree more. Nothing I'd love to see more than you screw yourself over by messing with the firmware. I'm such a bastard today.
Marshmellow Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 ive heard of people doing this before but on regular ipods...
Shorty Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 no matter what you do to an ipod its ridiculously easy to restore factory settings, so I wouldn't worry, the only thing to fear is loss of data if you have to format. I think it looks cool but also imagine the controls must be clumsy. It would be better if the centre button was move forward, then you could hold that down with one hand and turn with the other.
scubahood Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 I'm interested in how you do this care to spill the beans?
demonmike04 Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Just realised something...how the hell do you exit the game when all the buttons on the nano control it? :S
arab_freak Posted January 1, 2006 Author Posted January 1, 2006 As I said before, the warranty is just as it is. It's ridiculously easy to restore my music and original firmware. I even formatted it to make sure. As to exiting the game, it's simple. Just turn hold on, then off. The pause menu will appear. Select exit with the click wheel and press the center button. As to how I put it in, a simple google will tell you. If you want it on the nano though, there's a special way for that. In a nutshell, here are the steps that took place: -Downlod some apps -Reforemat iPod -Restore iPod -Install Linux -Reformat iPod -Restore iPod -Reinstall Linux -Restore music, photos, and convert videos http://www.ipodlinux.org
arab_freak Posted January 1, 2006 Author Posted January 1, 2006 I went to the store today, whipped out my ipod after the usual lines, and the clerk wasn't as impressed as I thought he would. He thought I "put a patch" to make it play video. He thought I was an ass to show that to him.

arab_freak Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 LOL, did you filmed it after all? No, since you wouldn't understand Arabic.
