ReZourceman Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 (So I can tell them, I assume the apology letters did no good?)
UK Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I never said I would show you all the posts, all I said was that there were 5 'GTFO' threads made and removed, and if people didn't believe me, I could screencap them. But everyone verified their existence for me, so I didn't bother. And I certainly never promised anything. Just to clarify something, bans are absolutely fucking final. You're wasting your time. Then can I ask, why just not delete members if bans are final? Bans are used usually for temporary sackings, nothing more, nothing less. Ant and hobbz may of caused friction, but just looking at this forum's past- RAVING HOMOSEXUAL for one, never got banned. you banned two respected members, and you can't ban someone who did nothing but argue and create spam fests accusing the forum of being homophobic? Just looking- solitanze, the third children, the ganondorf, all those people deserved bans. They were morons. But Ant and hobbz were alright.
Charlie Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 But Ant and hobbz were alright. Take a look through the football thread.
UK Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Take a look through the football thread. Alright, so why not just 'move' the football thread of thats so bad? Why do it when the MPOTD was such a special part of my forum life?
McPhee Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Then can I ask, why just not delete members if bans are final? Continuity. If you delete members, you delete they're posts and threads make no/little sense
motion Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 People argue, it's part of life. Good times, bad times. Get on with some people, don't get on with others. So they spammed a topic or two, so what? As UK said, they were respected members of the forum and shouldn't be castrated just because they argued a bit. What Hobbz said to dynastygal is pathetic in the sense that she had no reason to complain. If he was banned for that and past indiscretions fair enough, but to judge it solely on that is wrong I think. Ant's record is pretty much clean I believe and even if it's not, did he really deserve to get banned for life? And correct me if I'm wrong, Shorty... you say bans are "FUCKING FINAL"... I'm assuming you mean all bans except temporary 2 week bans eg: Hobbz a while back? Or Ashley banning himself (why again??) for a day etc...
Charlie Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 And correct me if I'm wrong, Shorty... you say bans are "FUCKING FINAL"... I'm assuming you mean all bans except temporary 2 week bans eg: Hobbz a while back? Or Ashley banning himself (why again??) for a day etc... Do you really need someone to answer that question for you or are you just trying to cause trouble?
motion Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 It just seems that temporary bans do happen a fair bit?
Ashley Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 People argue, it's part of life. Good times, bad times. Get on with some people, don't get on with others. I'm assuming you mean all bans except temporary 2 week bans eg: Hobbz a while back? Or Ashley banning himself (why again??) for a day etc... You can't just say "people argue, c'est la vie" and then criticise me whenever I say something that in most social contexts would pass but comes under heavy scrutiny on here. Hobz telling a relative newbie to "get the fuck out of here", on top of pushing a lot of people's buttons, to me seems a bit far. There are plenty of people who have hyperactive newbie syndrome and go crazy at first but calm down. (not really an important point, hence parenthesis, but you say "for life" as if its a prison sentence. People tend to have a short lifespan on forums, most people don't see past four or five years because of changing interests and the sort) My banning was for fusies :p (well long story, but can't be bothered to go into it. And not because its some big consipiracy or something like that. Its because im going to go play Mario Kart)
Shorty Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Then can I ask, why just not delete members if bans are final? Bans are used usually for temporary sackings, nothing more, nothing less. The point of a ban is to prevent people from returning. If I just deleted their accounts they could just sign up again. Banning someone's name means they can never use their old account again. Banning someone's IP should prevent them from coming back at all. And motion... there's only one real example of a temporary ban, and that was hobbzinio. He basically posted a big porn picture, but after a while we all decided amongst ourselves that he had not done it intentionally, and revoked the ban. Do you not think this was the right decision? Should he have been perma-banned despite only doing something by mistake? Then you need to make your mind up about how fair you think the mods and admins are.... As for Ashley being banned... he didn't do anything wrong, he just chose to do it to himself as a break from some hassle the forum members gave him. IMO it's not the best action but he wasn't really 'banned'. He took on the banned status but was not removed from the forum for breaking rules, which is what 'being banned' really is. So there we have two examples, hobbz, which was a mistake on our part we corrected, and Ashley, who banned himself. Not really "happening a fair bit", is it? And Hobbzinio was not just banned for his PMs to dynastygal, that was just the final straw.
Kurtle Squad Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Could we have the top bar randomly change rather than having it as the same game until another decent one comes out...or is that not possible!? heh
Tellyn Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 It is possible, but you only have to wait a few more days till it gets replaced by a Metroid banner.
Guest dynastygal Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Can we have a "shifty eyes" smilie?? I second that notion....there's a green version of one of those blue ones (http://www.mysmiley.net/free-scared-smileys.php) somewhere on the net that's popular.
AshMat Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Here's a shifty eyes one i threw together in 2 minutes. It'd look more shifty, only i couldn't think how to put my facial expression into a small smiley.
Daft Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 If anyone uses Adium there is an AWESOME shift eyes smilie of Link!
Fields Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Yes, our smiley selection needs something of an overhaul.
ReZourceman Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Suggestion ; Abolish "Infraction" system Bring in visible warning points system. They work. A heck of a lot better. Discuss.
darksnowman Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Suggestion ; Abolish "Infraction" system Bring in visible warning points system. They work. A heck of a lot better. Discuss. Suggestion: Just visit the games boards, talk about games, debate games and enjoy the community. Don't slag each other off, or hurl abuse, don't spam and the infraction stuff won't need used and thus no one will be banned. It is a Nintendo site like! Wii Discussion, Handheld Discussion, go!
AshMat Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Because that post's ever gonna make a difference. I like ReZ's visible point system, though my suggestion would be yellow/red cards show up on peoples' profiles (or do they already?) Then can I ask, why just not delete members if bans are final? He was way before your time.
ReZourceman Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Exactly its a Nintendo site....not a football match. IMHO there is nothing that a permanent ban acheives that a temporary ban cant prevent/make better. If after the temp ban they dont get the message, then perma but the people who have been banned (Non Fields/Hobbz etc) didnt seem to get a fair warning at all. Uber lamez.
Guest Jordan Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 People are banned for a reason. I take serious consideration any decision i take and i consult all the staff members before taking it. We do not like trouble makers, sarcastic idiots or people who start arguments for no reason. This forum will slowly get back on track, but you members have to trust that we're doing these decisions for all of us, not just to make life easier for us forum staff.

Im not going to beat around the bush here, Rokhed does all three of these on a regular basis, and is still not banned? So is it just...? Ant, Harribo and Motion were all nice people. It sounds like all three were not given ample warning that they were towing the line, which I think isnt fair. And I wont be silenced.....unless like Im banned or something, which would = suxxors.

People act like his cross dressing is going to mentally scar all of you, who are being pussies.
