Nice. I pre ordered it at the store because of what happened with the original where I bought the LE edition as well(arrived on Monday). So I'll be picking it up on Friday, lucky for me I'm still at college so I can take the day off with no worries.

I'm confused, when is this game released? I thought it was Friday, but I just got a strange text from Game saying it's out tomorrow, spesifying that tomorrow means Wednesday. So I checked a couple other sites, and the dates vary between 1st and 3rd depending on which edition. Is it really out tomorrow?

And can mod(HoT?) change the title to XIII-2? I didn't have a working x on my keyboard at the time.

Edit: Change of plans! I went down and asked and it is indeed out tomorrow :D

Launch trailer

Also DLC news.

With Final Fantasy XIII-2 seeing the light of day in the west this week, next week will see first dose of post-launch DLC hitting the Xbox Live Marketplace with Coliseum Battles that will test your skills against a series of friends and foes from the Final Fantasy universe.

Once you've vanquished these rivals in the Coliseum, you can then recruit them to your party, bolstering the number of options and reinforcements you'll have for battling your way through the story. The first Coliseum Battle is entitled 'Lightning & Amodar' and will be coming to the Xbox Live Marketplace on February 7th.

There's no pricing confirmed for the Coliseum Battles just yet, but Square Enix has also revealed that it'll be releasing DLC episodes that'll enable you to explore more of Final Fantasy XIII-2's secrets through story episodes for key characters, including Lightning. These will slot into the main storyline and will be revealed in more detail at a later date.

I'm hoping for some classic FF bosses/enemies to appear in the coliseum.

I played the demo for this.

I could go into a really long post about this but I'd be wasting time. I'll summarise with the words 'crap, uninspired money grabbing soulless cash-in'.

The thing I liked about X-2 was that even though the story wasn't great, the gameplay was amazing with the job system and obviously a complete change from X (which was still great, but this being different and still great justified it being made).

This isn't justified. It's just bad; why they were pretty conserved when XIII wasn't exactly great is somewhat confusing.

Oh well. Maybe one day they'll make another good FF game.

Ok, happy waiting then.

I for one am having fun. Four and a half hour in now, exploring my third area.

It is pretty happy when you consider there's much better RPGs that have stepped up to the mark this generation to play, instead of taking a giant leap back.

I appreciate that you like the game and have tried in earnest to keep this topic as 'pro' FFXIII-2 as possible. But as it stands, I think a lot of people won't like the direction this has taken too and in interest of balance/fairness we should be able to say this (no offence intended).

Not every game has to reach the current benchmark to be a great game. I have played plenty of the games you're thinking off probably but I also played plenty of average ones and they are just as much fun. But I hardly see how this is a giant leap back, I very much disagree with you on that one. Fyi, you haven't played the game yet.

I'm all for people voicing their dislike for the game as long as it doesn't turn out to be a multi page discussion about how low the series how fallen etc. There's a general FF thread some pages back.

Keeping on topic, I seem to have gotten the wrong edition. I pre-ordered the nordic edition for the DLC, but I seem to have gotten the limited edition. Got an awesome 3d print of Lightning, soundtrack with selected songs, artbook and character cards. Won't bother going down to switch though, already opened it to see what what inside and I know they didn't recieve any other editions since I asked if the calender was inside the box and he said it must since they didn't get any other editon. Too bad though, if the calender was full scale it would be pretty nice.

Edit: And Gaius kicked my ass twice.

I love the monster system in this game. Customize a flan and have it fight beside you is just pure fun. Can't wait till get a behemot.

I haven't played the full game, true, but my criticisms are not with the story or anything else that would require playing the full game to legitimately complain about. Rather I am disappointed with the lack of effort in terms of retaining almost exactly the same battle and levelling system as well as the overall feel and overemphasis on flashy cutscenes over solid gameplay.

Oh, and your whole post was on topic since it's all about FFXIII-2. :p

I'll stand by your side Tales, don't worry. :D

I put a few hours into this yesterday and so far i'm really enjoying it. While playing it i'm getting a big FFX-2 vibe, which is a good thing for me seeing as I loved that game.

I didn't get that far into the game despite playing it for a while. I found a great spot early on for getting the 100 consecutive pre-emptive strike achievement/trophy, so I sat there for an hour do that.

I'm just at the start of chapter 2 where the monster taming stuff has come into play. I never played the demo so i'm quite excited to see how the whole using monsters thing works out.

Did anyone else get a Sonic Adventure vibe from the first area when you are running around the beach and the music kicks in? No? Just me then. :D

I fought Caius for the first time yesterday, kicked my butt something rotten. :( This being the case I decided to head back to where the Behemoths were walking about, can't remember what it's called but it's the place where all the lights are out.

I stayed there for about an hour just levelling up. I caught a Behemoth in the process and added him to my team. By the time I had done all of this I was stupidly powerful and all the mats I got off the fighting made it so I could fully level up my Behemoth, well until I find the next level of mats.

I went back to Caius and kicked his sorry butt in about 10 seconds. I started by using the super useful Bellow ability from the Behemoth. This gave all the characters attack up, defense up and magic up. After that I just went RAV/COM/COM and he was dead! :D

I'm really enjoy the way things are playing out in terms of the story. I'm also having a blast just jumping through time and doing different tasks in different time periods.

Just started Episode 4 and loving it. :bouncy:

Just finished the main story, last boss was very epic, so much better than FFXIII's final boss. I liked the story for FFXIII more but I still enjoyed the story on this. I have ALOT more to do on it though, I think I only grabbed 40 odd of the 160 fragments and there are many other things to explore, such as the Chocobo Racing and the many sidequests.

Overall loved the game and I have still really only scratched the surface.

FFXIII didn't do anything for me so I wasn't expecting much from this demo, but it's actually quite fun. The battle system seems a bit manic but I thought the same about Xenoblade when I first played it and it soon became second nature so I'm surre I'll get used to this. I'm also loving the monster-raising. One of the reasons I loved Disgaea, La Pucelle and ToS DotNW was because I could raise and battle with my own army of monsters. Can you have more than one monster fighting alongside you in the final game?

I fully levelled up my characters yesterday and started doing some of the sidequests for the fragments. Some of the Paradox Endings are great, one of them i've unlocked was actually quite funny.

On my first run through of the game I didn't manage to beat the final boss with a 5 star rating. I needed to do this this for an achievement, so I headed back there yesterday. Last time it took me 18 minutes to finish the boss, this time it took 3. :D
