Tales Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 A sequel? Awesome, I was one the few that loved FFXIII, so I think is great news.
Debug Mode Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 There's a second part to the event, so I'l try to update the main post as the details come in.
Aimless Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Personally I think XIII-2 is a great idea. The first game's combat system was sublime and on the audio-visual front it was absolutely beautiful, the game's real downfall was the drip-feeding of mechanics and the linearity. The former shouldn't be too much of an issue in a sequel — you would assume those in the market for one are already familiar with the underlying systems — and Gran Pulse showed that the game was perfectly capable of rendering expansive environments. Hell, give me an entire game of Ci'eth Stone quests with an overarching story spread over a few open environments and you're pretty much done. That said I'm annoyed Versus ostensibly isn't coming out this year.
Debug Mode Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Following up on XII-2, it seems to be a prequel Hopefully they will make it a fuck ton better than XIII. I absolutely hated it.
Caris Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 How the hell are they bringing out XIII-2 this year? I would have expected 2012 at the earliest.
Aimless Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 How the hell are they bringing out XIII-2 this year? I would have expected 2012 at the earliest. No doubt it will be 2012 for the West. It's not that surprising, really. XIII came out in December 2009 in Japan, so you're likely looking at close to 2 years development time, a pre-built engine plus whatever content was cut from the first game to work with; a lot, allegedly. A fast turnaround for S-E, perhaps, but they weren't always so tardy.
Debug Mode Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 How the hell are they bringing out XIII-2 this year? I would have expected 2012 at the earliest. The engine and the majority of the character models have already been done and need some slight re-skins, so I imagine it's relatively easy to churn out another one. That and the development team for XIII I imagine have fuck all to do seeing as the other teams are still pre-occupied with their own titles (FFXIV, Type Zero, XIII Versus). EDIT: Now watching the Nico Nico Douga stream. Expect news if there is any.
Ramar Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I thought XIII was alright, but I don't know I feel about XIII-2. I don't think it's worthy of another game, but I'll probably buy it.
Debug Mode Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Looks like the stream will be full of trailers.. Not that I'm complaining!
heroicjanitor Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I was one of the people who didn't finish XIII... At the start of XIII I was thinking the critics were mad, the game was awesome. Then I put it down an hour or so after I hit the open world, I liked the graphics but the characters and story didn't interest me at all. It will be interesting to see how XIII-2 does since a lot didn't finish the first. Agito is Type Zero now? Is it the first psp game with two umds? Crisis core was brilliant so I'll probably like this. Still want some info on Versus though...
Debug Mode Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) No gameplayer of XIII-2 in the trailer. The majority of it (30 seconds) was from the final scenes of the first game, then about 10 seconds from the new one. Holy crap, I expected more if it's due out this year. That was nothing short of fucking embarrassing. EDIT: Currently talking about Type Zero on Stream with the composer (Hironobu Sakaguchi) and presumably the Director(I wasn't listening, doh), Hajime Tabata. From what I hear, it is expected to be released on PSP this year. EDIT 2: XIII Versus trailer shown. Still missing some voice acting for a few cut scenes that were shown, but fuck the whole thing was forgiveable by how epic the trailer is. Open world with varying settings. City similar to Tokyo. A large field area. Waste land similar to fall out. The action looks brilliant as well, attacking then hijacking a tank... Finding an enemy mech in the streets and hijacking that.. Fuck I want it.. Aimless Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Here's the Versus trailer in relatively decent quality: Don't expect it to be around for long, mind; it's not supposed to be released until Thursday.
heroicjanitor Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Oh my god that looks amazing! It would be even better if a second player could control one of your party members, now that the fights are on the same map that you run around on
Hero-of-Time Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 A sequel? Awesome, I was one the few that loved FFXIII, so I think is great news. This! Bring on the sequel/prequel.
Shorty Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 The first game's combat system was sublimeReally? Before I got bored and gave up, I never found a single fight that I couldn't win without just tapping A over and over again.
Arnieboy Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Loved ff13, not sure how the sequel will work, especially if Sazch isn't in it, his presence will be missed if he is absent. Definately will be picking that up though. What i really want is more solid Versus details other than pretty trailers that show no or next to no gameplay. To be honest though, i'd much rather they just skip all this sequel malarkey and just announce that they're working on FF15.
Aimless Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Really? Before I got bored and gave up, I never found a single fight that I couldn't win without just tapping A over and over again. Honestly the true battle system doesn't reveal itself until you're doing the end/post-game content. The various aspects of it are introduced achingly slowly, but once they're all at your disposal there's actually a lot of depth to it.
Jon Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I loved XIII, so a sequel sounds good to me. Just hope Vanille or the voice actor who played her are no where to be seen.
killer kirby Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 So the only game out of the lot Final Fantasy XIII Agito is now getting a new name change. Seriously. That game will ass rape every Final Fantasy game since XII. No skills in directing so you want him to go back to art directing.. interesting.
Emerald Emblem Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Versus XIII Looks so much better than XIII by country miles. I could forgive Square Enix their mistake if Versus XIII is as fun as it looks.
