Chelsea are just collecting players. Mental. Wonder if he'll start on sunday! I predict he comes on as sub to a chorus of boos.

I agree with dan-likes-trees; Carroll is on good form, and I think he'll be a great future england player (though his debut was shite). How will newcastle do without him?

A world class player belongs in the Champions League then, you can't blame him. Guess he just underestimated how long any changes were gonna take at Liverpool.

Wonder what Gerrard will make of a Liverpool without Torres?

Drogba strength and ability to hold the ball, would make Torres a poor replacement.

Hope to see Torres shine again.

So why 3 weeks ago did he commit to the club? He said he was a pro and was going to finish his contract. Told bare faced lies.

Liverpool had a £20million bid for Man City's Micah Richards rejected.

Unfortunately I can't source what's on the Sky Sports Transfer ticker.

The Editor:

Skysports.com understands Liverpool also approached Manchester City for Micah Richards and were prepared to go up to £20million for the defender. City rejected the Reds' approach.

£35 million is an absolute disgrace for Andy Carroll, no way is he worth that. Gary Hooper scored more than him last season in the Championship playing for Scunthorpe and he only cost Celtic £2 million.

Wow, what a deadline day. Torres to Chelsea is just...odd. I can't imagine him in a blue shirt. You'd have thought that with a new manager having just arrived that he'd wait at least until the end of the season until he moved on. Leaving in January seems really selfish on his part, imo. Its hardly giving the club enough time to find a replacement.

As for Carroll, 35 million? Really? I guess you have to factor in English Player Tax, which is to take the player's true value and then multiply it by the first number that you pluck out of thin air. :heh:

He's a great player, no denying that. Something like 11 goals in 17 league games this season, which is fucking brilliant. But, if you look at the wider picture, so many other world class strikers have gone for less than that. Newcastle are making a fortune, though. I wonder how many of their fans would want him to leave, though.

Carroll and Suarez as a front pairing, though. Could be something special.

I love deadline day.

50 million is the fee paid by Chelsea they must be as despeate as Liverpool :) good little bit of info someone sent into the guardian.

But the larger point about Carroll's price is this: There is no such a thing as 'real' or 'fair' price of anything. Prices are determined in a market based on the preferences and needs of the participants at the time and place. Chelsea desperately needed a striker, and so paid over the odds, which left Liverpool in desperate need of a striker, with a ton of cash lying around. Carrol looks like he can play very well with Suarez. Sure they might be able to get him for a better price later, but they need him now. You pay over the odds for a drink in fancy restaurant, when you can cross the street and buy it for less – but you want it when you're at the fancy restaurant. 'Fair' value is a myth – it's all subjective, baby!"

They didn't pay 35million for a few goals, he's alot more than that, he's tough, he get's himself about, he'll ruffle more than a few feathers. They bought Suarez for the goals not Carroll, although I am hoping he will get a few goals.....

Its funny, none of the big transfers have actually gone through yet. We could see Torres and Carroll stay at their clubs, which would be very interesting this weekend.

New blood is always good. Its going to be hard to imagine a Liverpool attack without Torres, though. Still, Carroll + Suarez = Torres + up to 10 million. Thats one way of looking at it.

I find it strange that Liverpool would sell him to another English team, though. But then, thats football. Logic is dead. Just like Carlos Tevez's comments about "I won't play for Liverpool out of respect for United." City, eh? :p

The deal sounds less impressive if you include Babel. :heh:

His talent was wasted. He could have gone to a club like Arsenal or United and would probably have done well there.

I always felt sorry for babel, he never got the chance and he had the potential, no doubt. He always looked good when playing for the dutchies, maybe coz they are a better team together i'm not sure, but hope he shows what liverpool missed.

2321: DONE DEAL Liverpool have confirmed that Fernando Torres is now a Chelsea player after the Merseysiders accepted a British transfer record fee for the Spanish international. That fee is thought to be £50m. Big.

Christ. What a load of shite.

Arsenal confirm signing of Ryo Miyaichi.. and ship him straight off to Feyenoord on loan. Classic bit of business by Wenger!

Got a bit excited myself when we loaned Bartley to Rangers, was hoping we'd nick a loan deal on Bougherra just for some cover. Alas, unless announced later, not to be.

Still can't get over Torres and Carroll both moving, ridiculous money, Saturday will be interesting to say the least. Is Carroll still injured? Either way I'm glad I don't have to worry about him for set pieces on Saturday.

Carroll has a thigh problem and is going to see a Specialist. I doubt we'll see him playing for Liverpool for some time yet.

I don't believe it, first Ashley sacks Hughton and then we sell Carroll. What the fuck. The guy just signed a new contract.

So Chelsea bought their kryptonite, reckon they'd let us sign ours in the summer? I'd find room for Drogba somewhere in the tea room or looking after some handbags.

The picture of Torres with the Chelski shirt makes me feel sick. He's well and truly disrespected LFC and all the fans.

What he says in the interview is shocking, no mention of Liverpool. "Target for all footballers is to play at the top level, i can do that now", wanker. Looking forward to him playing against Carra tbh, hope he clatters him.

345: Harry Redknapp has confirmed that Tottenham did make a bid - that was accepted - for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam late in the day, but that the deal fell through because "a couple of Blackpool shareholders" just failed to get the necessary signatures on the paperwork in time. So near. So far. So Tottenham.

Gutted. That would have been beautiful. Kind of glad Blackpool still have him though, they deserve a good shot at staying up.

I was holding out on some last minute Forlan shocker at the end. Never gonna happen.
