Hero-of-Time Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 http://kotaku.com/5527119/halo-developer-joins-forces-with-activision Worst. News. Ever. But...but its not April Fools Day!
flameboy Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 honestly I have not read the article but all I can think of is fucking idiots! seriously how dumb can you get? especially after whats happened to IW...so dumb and stupid.
D_prOdigy Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is just for one IP, and Bungie will retain the rights to it. Don't think there's anything to prevent them from working on other things with other publishers. No need for all the nauseating moaning.
Cube Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is just for one IP, and Bungie will retain the rights to it. Don't think there's anything to prevent them from working on other things with other publishers. No need for all the nauseating moaning. It seems so: Under the terms of the agreement, Activision will have exclusive, worldwide rights to publish and distribute all future Bungie games based on the new intellectual property on multiple platforms and devices. Bungie remains an independent company and will continue to own their intellectual property
Guest Captain Falcon Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 So "Call of Duty: Future Warfare" by any other name?
Nintenchris Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Well well well Could things have turned out any worse
dwarf Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 If only that could guarantee a ps3 release of Reach...
Charlie Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is just for one IP, and Bungie will retain the rights to it. Don't think there's anything to prevent them from working on other things with other publishers. No need for all the nauseating moaning. Yeah exactly. The people who posted above you obviously didn't read the article if they were jumping to those conclusions. No cause for concern in the slightest. What the article is saying is that Activision are publishing Bungie's next game.
Emasher Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 After all the shit Infinity Ward went through, I'd imagine Bungie's lawyers will be looking over the agreement VERY carefully. It sounds like they're just going to be publishing the game and not have much control over the game, at least I would hope not, so its not a huge deal. I think I'll avoid the GT forums for the next few days now though.
Nolan Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 What the article is saying is that Activision are publishing Bungie's next game. That is cause for concern. While I can't say yet if I'd want Bungie's next game it's likely I will, unfortunately I don't want to give Activision any support for the fact that they've generally been shitting on the industry in recent times. A similar situation with Ubisoft as well.
dwarf Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Dwarf calls it first: Kotick will charge £55 for when Reach comes out.
Ryan Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Dwarf calls it first:Kotick will charge £55 for when Reach comes out. And how do they have any say in Halo: Reach in the slightest?
Shino Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is just for one IP, and Bungie will retain the rights to it. Don't think there's anything to prevent them from working on other things with other publishers. No need for all the nauseating moaning. Yeah, no need to worry about the developer integrity it seems. But still makes angry that Activision has another potentially huge game on their hands.
flameboy Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 So "Call of Duty: Future Warfare" by any other name? good call...although why the hell would bungie want to get tied into another franchise like that after shedding halo?!
Nolan Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I thought Bungie's next release was Reach? all future Bungie games based on the new intellectual property Halo: Reach does not count as a new IP.
dwarf Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I was being just as ignorant as everyone else by the looks of things.
Wesley Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 (edited) Well well wellCould things have turned out any worse Um... yeah, they could have not got this deal through? Meaning they'd have to have gone to a different publisher, not have got as much money, meaning they'd employ less talented people, probably release a weaker product and wouldn't have had the bigger marketing budget. Or, they'd have signed with one of the big console manufacturers, who could maybe offer the same as Activision, but would then limit them to their own platform, meaning less sales and less people getting the chance to play. But hey, you're right. This deal is fucked up. I can't believe Activision are going to publish their game, give them a fuckton of money upfront, as well as royalties; and have the nerve to let them keep all the rights. Dwarf calls it first:Kotick will charge £55 for when Reach comes out. Bungie have said in interviews they retain the right to set prices with their Activision deal. Dante Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Jason West and Vince Zampella on the news. The LA Times has reported that before leaving Infinity Ward Jason West and Vince Zampella were seeking an agreement with Activision on terms similar to the new Bungie dealThe ten-year Activision/Bungie partnership was revealed yesterday. "According to people familiar with the situation," the article reads, "the publicly released terms of the Bungie deal are similar to the one that former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vincent Zampella were seeking before talks broke down and they were fired for alleged breach of contract in attempting to form their own company." The article also includes a quote from Zampella and West's attorney Bobby Schwartz: “It’s astonishing how much money Activision had to pay to cover up its horns and pitchforks with a halo.”
Choze Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 The difference here is that this is pretty much the same as EA partners program. IW are a Activision studio so clearly they dont have the same power that Bungie do. So not too much to worry about in regards for Bungie. Seems like they got something good out of it. Abit like id and Activision back in the day.
