Sheikah Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Can anybody recommend me a nice tablet? As a student I could really use one :p This and is also at quite a reasonable price. Anybody know if it's any good? Yup, I have this, was going to recommend it. It's the best in class for small tablets and very well priced. The 16GB is enough for me. The resolution is out of this world.
drahkon Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Thanks The 16GB is enough for me. Hm, I can't find the 16GB version in any German store Would be enough for me, as well as cheaper. But maybe I'll go for the 32GB version.
Ashley Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Yeah go for the Nexus 7. Posted from my Nexus 7.
Cube Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I agree with the Nexus 7 recommendations. Posted from my outdated 2012 Nexus 7.
bob Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Yes, i would say the Nexus 7. Because i know you've already bought it. Posted from my 5 year old Acer laptop.
drahkon Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Yes, i would say the Nexus 7. Because i know you've already bought it. Thank you. You are really helpful :p So, ebooks on android? How do they work? Can I only buy them via Google Play Store? Can I use Amazon/Kindle ebooks? Is there any difference? No idea how this shit works. Help!
bob Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 They come in different formats. If you download an e-reader app (i used to use Aldiko) you can drag and drop any ebook file onto your nexus and read it. Amazon uses .mobi i think, so if you have a load of those, you can put them on your Nexus and read them fine. Or, you can download the Kindle app and just sync your library straight away. I'm not sure what Google Play uses, or how they allow you to move the files around. They might use .epub, which Aldiko can read, but a Kindle can't... Basically it depends on how flexible you want to be. If you're just planning on using one store or another, then just use that and stick with it. That was even less helpful than my previous post i think. Sorry.
Ike Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Google Play allows you to upload your own ebooks, I believe. I know you can upload PDFs.

Cube Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Google Play allows you to upload your own ebooks, I believe. I know you can upload PDFs. I think it accepts any unprotected format for file sizes under 50MB.
Diageo Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 As a recent purchaser of the new Nexus 7, I can say that it's one of my favourite pieces of technology I own.
drahkon Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Good Lord, the Nexus 7 is amazing. Played around with it for 2 hours now. Found a nice app (Kingsoft Office) which lets you create text documents and stuff. Now I need a nice and small bluetooth keyboard. Can anybody recommend one?
James Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 How quick is the new Nexus 7, my original one is starting to lag and does my head in, anyone had the original and gone to second one and worth the investment? although may hold off for a new nexus 10.

Yeah, I have both and it's a major improvement. It's much snappier. The old one could get pretty slow but this one is butter smooth.

The one that comes with Pokémon Typing is actually pretty sweet. Speaking of pretty sweet:
Ashley Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 This change to NFC seems interesting, shame Google Wallet isn't used in the UK. Anyway, KitKat info: http://m.androidauthority.com/android-4-4-kitkat-official-what-you-need-to-know-313100/ Nexus 5 info: http://m.androidauthority.com/nexus-5-specs-features-311608/
drahkon Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 So I bought a Bluetooth keyboard. It works. The only problem...it has a QWERTZ layout (Germany) but whenever I write texts my Nexus uses the QWERTY layout, which is quite annoying since I want/have to use üäö. Don't want to change the system language to German. I also have set the input language to "German QWERTZ". Doesn't work Help.
Cube Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Unfortunately, that's currently something overlooked for Android (it doesn't have the UK layout, either, but it's mostly the same as the USA). There's a fairly cheap app called External Keyboard Helper (with a demo available) which has lots of layouts.
Sheikah Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Hey @Cube (I think you got this setup in the past) I was thinking of getting my Dualshock working on my Nexus 7 but without root, since I don't really want to go down that path. I read you need an OTG cable along with the standard charging cable for the pad, but I really wanted to get it working wireless. I read here that you can pair the controller after connecting up your controller via wires if your system firmware is ice cream sandwhich or later. Have you managed to get it working wireless this way?
Cube Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I use a wired 360 pad. I tried using the Dualshock for something, but then I reset my 7 to stock.
Sheikah Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I've just read that there's apparently some issue with the second gen Nexus 7 on Android 4.3 and using OTG cables. Think I'll wait until KitKat and see if it's sorted.
dan-likes-trees Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Going to give a shout out to this cheeky chappy Great specs sim free for £130! Sterling buy for those who don't need something as flashy as the Nexus 5. As a side note: people talking about last year's N7 performing poorly - I think turn out to be a Google Currents (Or Pulse?) issue, or something like that? There was some app that seemed to be causing issues with 2012 Nexus 7's which I removed and now the thing runs like a dream again. Would love this years version but I can't justify the upgrade - mine's still running seamlessly.
dan-likes-trees Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Is the moto x out here? Nah. Don't think it's coming, sadly. Nice looking phone.
