The problem is that enough people see retro stuff as an "investment" - a way to make money down the line. This is why sealing games in boxes, never to be played again, has become a trend.

Should've put that money into Pokemon Cards instead, they would've been millionares by this point.

That scene is just ridiculous at this point. Fights breaking out in stores, people stealing booster packs from shops, retailers having to limit what they are selling or even stop selling them altogether due to the hassle they are causing. This is all down to people just wanting to make a quick buck at the expense of kids or actual players being able to buy the product.

There's a new Team Rocket set that just got announced and I have already made peace that I will never be able to find them anywhere once released. :(

Honestly, it just feels like anything and everything is being targeted with the sole purpose of flipping for a profit. The world sucks.

So I finally got around to playing the Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon N64 recompilation project on PC, and it is superb!:yay:

IChp1yj.png

Super crisp visuals (the leap from 320x240 to 1080p+ is insane!), completely smooth frame rate, perfect audio quality and even wide-screen support! (Apart from the Impact robot battles which have aspects fixed to 4:3).

This is my first experience with an N64 recomp port but it has got to be the very best way to currently play N64 titles, I'm certainly looking forward to trying out some others now.

What a time to be alive. :hehe:

As for the game itself, it's probably been a couple of decades since I last did a complete playthrough of it, and to be honest, gameplay-wise it doesn't hold up quite well as I remembered. There's some bizarre level design and frustrating platforming sections that I was no doubt much more forgiving of in my youth. :heh: Also feels like it was perhaps cut short or rushed, with some iffy pacing and gameplay mechanics that go severely underutilised.

On the other hand, the vibe/presentation of the game has lost absolutely none of its charm! :D The wacky story and characters, vibrant locations, offbeat and hilarious dialogue (complete with canned laughter) and of course, the soundtrack (easily one of the best video game soundtracks ever made!) all ensure that I still have a real soft spot for this game.
Yeah, despite any of the flaws, it's always going to be a favourite of mine. :)

I used to hope that it would get added to the Wii VC or Switch Online, but replaying it has reminded me that there's quite a lot of stuff in the game that could make that problematic (especially these days) despite the English localisation already doing its best to censor things even back in 1998. :hehe:

;);)

Anyway, it was fun to re-experience this after such a long time, and it's nice to have a convenient (and far superior) way to be able to do so again in the future, without having to dig out my N64 and CRT TV.

:peace:

Unfortunately, Mystical Ninja is the only recomp worth playing. The only other one (Majora's Mask) has a decomp with more features

The decomp PC ports of N64 games so far are all great though: Mario 64, Ocarina, Majora, Perfect Dark and Lylat Wars.

That's OK, we don't need to do anything special for it. Nintendo have already done the groundwork!

Earlier today, I had a bit of a panic. I was going through my Gamecube games and noticed Smash Bros, Mario Kart and Mario Tennis weren't in their boxes. I've never lost a game before and so found it hard to believe that I would lose 3 in one go. I remembered I had a little Gamecube disc holder and so popped up the attic and had a look. They were in there, as well as a 251 memory card that I didn't realise I was missing. Success!

Around 10 years ago I had a games night for the youth at my church. I took my Gamecube and set up a retro corner for them and the missing games were the ones I took. I must have put them in the disc case so that I didn't have to take the game boxes. Crazy that they've been sat there all this time. Crisis averted.

@Hero-of-Time Glad to hear that you found your missing GameCube game discs. :peace:

Those official game cases are excellent, and hopefully will have protected the games, while they were in the loft.

Although, if you haven't already, it would be a good idea to check those games, holdng them up to the light, as hopefully they are OK, but I had some GC games recently (not from my own collection) which I believe were stored in their cases, either in a loft or garage, and sadly, a few of them had disc rot (pinholes visible through the disc) including a copy of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance... fortunately most of the other games were OK though.

Still, I may recheck some of my GC and other disc-based games soon, as I will be selling at least a few more of them, but for the ones I want to keep, it'd be good to know that they are still fine in their cases.

Yeah, I was reading on Era the other day about this. Games, dvds and even some blurays are starting to suffer from this. Some examples were even kept in correct conditions but still ended up suffering from rot.

It's nice to have a physical collection but both discs and consoles seem to be ticking time bombs.

I see. Cheers for the info. 👍
Reckon I'll try to give Perfect Dark a go next anyway, as that must be super nice to play with a rock-solid frame rate. :)

That did actually cross my mind as well, but it would be such a ridiculous and embarrassing move to put a game that was originally rated as being appropriate for children on there.
Yeah, unfortunately I reckon Konami would simply prefer to forget about the game.

I seriously need to stop being lazy and check my collection soon.
It's been ages since I used any GCN or Wii discs, last time would've been several years ago when making a few backups for use with Dolphin. :blank:
Hopefully they're all still fine and I'll be able to finish that process.

It totally is. The NSO version runs smoothly compared to the original N64 one, even in wide-screen, and in multiplayer (Unless online lag kicks in). The difference is staggering!

Obviously, the decomp will run better.
