Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (XBLA, PSN, WiiWare)

^ I could only wish to play that well, never been very good at sonic games.

Tried playing Sonic 1 the other day and died on the labrynth zone 'boss.' The lack of continues always annoys me. :hmm:

This does look very good though, i played the demo and my only complaint is how sonic stops dead when you let go of the directional buttons. I'll probably wait it out and pick up all the episodes when they have all been released.

I've worked out why that is, it's because of the homing attack, if Sonic was movie g forwards through the air without anu buttons being pressed it would make getting in position to attack a nightmare.

Sega done the right thing surprisingly.

But if he was moving forward too much, you'd just tap back and you'd stop making it just as easy. Using the homing attack was never a problem in the Sonic Rush games (beyond it's incredibly short reach) and he still has momentum whilst airbourne in those.

The lack of inertia whilst in the air goes against conventional platforming mechanics and as such should really be a no no. It's not game breaking in the slightest and is fine once you've got going but it does take getting used to.

It's like in the NSMB games, the jumping is so strange that I have to play them for a while before I'm back in the swing of things - I can't just pick them up and play like the old Mario games.

In them, like the old Sonic games, after one jump, you're set for the entire game but here, you aren't.

As for my progress, I beat the end boss last night but still need to collect all the Emeralds - I have 4 right now.

Given you can't go back to the same level to generate your attempts at bonus stages if you've already got one off that level, I've been holding off getting them from easy levels.

So I'm trying to get my next from the Lost Labyrinth, the one after from Casino Street and then finally from Splash Hill. I figure it will be easier that way.

Blasted through the whole game + emeralds in one sitting tonight.

Err...I enjoyed it more than I didn't. There's many bullshit design choices throughout and most of the levels are completely soulless...but there were enough moments that felt fun and impressive to warrant playing it.

All of Mad Gear Zone was good, act 2 of casino street is great, lost labyrinth 1 has some nice parts.

I dont think I or most people can forgive the physics still being shite though. I really genuinely dont understand Sega.

In the old games, if you're flying off into an unknown space, you can kind of let the momentum carry you to where you're probably "supposed" to land, when you cant actually see where you're going. In Sonic 4 it's almost always impossible to judge what kind of speed you're meant to be flying through the air at from most ramps, the only thing that felt natural to do was try and propel myself as far as possible and "hope for the best".

I don't fucking understand why you cant spindash up some surfaces too but like run really slowly standing and make it around them fine. I really dont get why Sega just completely ignored that stuff.

My video of the Untouchable achievement (last boss with no damage) and the best ending. Couldn't find any other videos of this ending so I made my own.

Nice vid Shorty! :D you basically used exactly the same tactics as me nearly except at the end you do know that when one of the arms 'falls' you can actually use a homing attack on it while it's in mid-air? it saves you some time because you only have to hit it once instead of three times when it gets stuck in the ground. :)

Re: the arm.... Yeah the first couple of times I fought him, I hit the arm in mid-air. But after that I messed it up once and I was concerned the previous times were flukes. Since I was going for untouchable I didn't want to risk it... I quite like the 3 hit method though as you can rebound into him after the 3rd for an extra bash.

Well I got the the remaining chaos emeralds last night and on the whole, I do really like the game.

Mad Gear is my favourite Zone or the lot. Love the music on Act 1 (best piece In the game for me) - it has that epic struggle vibe going on which fits perfectly with the level.

Then it's Lost Labyrinth, Splash Hill and finally Casino Street - never been much of a fan of the casino levels thought I thought they were pretty cool in Sonic Heroes.

Also, I know a lot of reviews moan about Lost Labyrinth Act 2 (aka the one in the dark) but in actuality, there is almost nothing in the darkened sections that can actually hurt you. You can run around safely and not worry at all. Sure the torch has a very limited range but it's a fun level. That you don't know that before you've made it through keeps you on your guard but after that one time, it's plain sailing.

I love this game!

I have got all the chaos emerelds now. Had a lot of trouble with the last 2 though!! (lost count at the amount of times i had to replay levels just to get back to the special stage!!)

Whats odd though is that ive just done all the special stages again on time attack and did them all first time! lol.

I have made a few attempts at the untouchable cheevo but no luck so far!

I finally played this on my brother's PS3 this morning and.. I wasn't hating it :hehe: I'm still not sure if I want to download it onto my Wii yet.. but I'll certainly consider it  I can see plenty of desire to go back into each level to go different routes and pursue those chaos emerals :heh:

Can anyone who has gotten the "Golden Flash" trophy/achievement tell me how they did it? I have all the Chaos Emeralds so that is not the issue but in theory the boss acts don't have 50 rings to turn into Super Sonic.

Is it just that you need to finish each "proper" level as Super Sonic? I wanna know the rules on it before I attempt it, just need this one to get all the achievements in the game, a rareity for me! :)

Just finish the end as Super Sonic, boss stages don't matter. Doesn't matter how long you stay as Super Sonic either, you can change right at the end as long as it's before the finishing sign thing.
