flameboy Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Didn't see a thread for this so thought I'd start one. If you havn't tried popcap's latest effort get yourself on Steam and download the 60 minute demo, things start off pretty slowly but it soon perhaps a mad cap race to keep those zombies off your lawn. Part tower defence, part turn based strategy its brilliant! Honestly download it is worth it. area5.tv looked at it on co-op; http://area5.tv/blog/co-op-0111-drop-and-give-me-e3-bionic-commando-plants-vs-zom.html
Cube Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Aww....I was interested by the artwork and stuff. But tower defence/turn based stratergy...I hate both.

dwarf Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I use Bellsprout! OK, uh, I still don't actually know what steam is.
S.C.G Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 (edited) This game is epic win! I implore those that are curious to download eet! incidentally there is a pack of about THIRTY games by Popcap priced at around £50... but! it includes Plants vs Zombies, all the Peggle games, all Bejeweled and loads of others, works out at less than £2 per game when the usual rrp is £6.99 each, well worth it if you don't have many - or any- of the games in the pack. ^^ I downloaded the pack thanks to Raining recommending it and quite honestly there is so much fun to be had from all the games you get, heres the full list... Bejeweled 2 Deluxe, Chuzzle Deluxe, Insaniquarium Deluxe, Zuma Deluxe, AstroPop Deluxe, Bejeweled Deluxe, Big Money Deluxe, BookWorm Deluxe, Dynomite Deluxe, Feeding Frenzy 2 Deluxe, Hammer Heads Deluxe, Heavy Weapon Deluxe, Iggle Pop Deluxe, Pizza Frenzy, Rocket Mania Deluxe, Typer Shark Deluxe, Talismania Deluxe, Bookworm Adventures Deluxe, Peggle Deluxe, Venice, Mystery P.I. - The Lottery Ticket, Amazing Adventures: The Lost Tomb, Mystery PI: The Vegas Heist, Amazing Adventures Around the World, Peggle Nights, Bejeweled Twist, Mystery P.I. - The New York Fortune, The Wizard's Pen, Plants vs. Zombies, Escape Rosecliff Island. But yeah if you're only interested in Plants vs Zombies then at least get that because it really is awesome. : peace: Edited May 24, 2009 by S.C.G
flameboy Posted May 24, 2009 Author Posted May 24, 2009 Yeah saw the pack but quite expensive and don't need that many games all in one go. Anyway off to play some Plants vs Zombies!
CoolFunkMan Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 All I can say is, this game is epic win! Deffinitely worth the price. The plants are awesome, and the Zombies are hilarious.

flameboy Posted May 24, 2009 Author Posted May 24, 2009 I am addicted to this game.The roof part is a bitch, especially with those bungee jumper zombies... Not got that far yet...Up to the third set of levels. Love how just when you have got it sussed it mixes things up and chucks in a ton of new possibilities/problems that make you tackle the levels in a new way.
S.C.G Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Just finished another session on this, it gets better the more you play it things are kept fresh by introducing new plants / zombies etc regularly, not to mention the mini-games! so much fun. ^^'
flameboy Posted May 24, 2009 Author Posted May 24, 2009 Glad to see this game getting some love! Been taking some screenshots for my review for my blog;

The zombie characters are well thought out! I love the angry old zombie with the newspaper The sound effects ... "braaaaainnns"... "the zombies are coming!" just make me laugh so much I'm on steam too - tis raining_again

PopCap Games went outside of their Peggle comfort zone with the quirky tower defense title, Plants vs. Zombies. Their risk is now their reward -- Plants vs. Zombies is a financial success. So successful, actually, that PopCap can now claim it as the most lucrative game in their heroin-laced library. Ever. “At this very early point in its history, it’s the best-selling game PopCap’s ever had,” PopCap PR man Garth Chouteau recently told Gamasutra. Mind is blown. We weren’t shy in lauding the innovative and entirely too addictive title, but a new IP crushing Peggle so soon? That’s like killing a zombie giant with a fire sling or something. http://www.destructoid.com/plants-vs-zombies-the-best-selling-game-popcap-s-ever-had--133364.phtml Have to agree with this sentiment can't believe its overtaken Peggle so quickly. Dyson Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Hmm, I'll give this a whirl. Sounds good, love tower defence games. The Popcap pack intrigues me too but I think I'll wait for a Steam sale/weekend deal to pick that up.

I bought the pack and have been playing the games for weeks now, have barely even got through half of them so far but I'm working on it! ^^' Seriously though it's a really good deal, though I appreciate that waiting for a further sale may be a good idea, if they lower the price any more then the games in the pack will dangerously be approaching the £1 per game mark lolol.
jayseven Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I think i've still got some points, so I may well scoop this up. Masseev win :P
flameboy Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 MUST HAVE ONE OF THESE!!!!! How cool is this; Check out this real-life Zombie Defense Plant that PopCap sent me. My home is relatively free of zombies, so I didn't have much of a sense of urgency when feeding and watering the thing. I planted the seed, watered it and left. I went out of town and came back to find that my little peashooter had grown to well over a foot tall. Today it stands (well, kind of) at a whopping 21 inches tall. At the base of the plant a little growth popped out of the dirt, and it reads "zombies," as shown above. It currently stands in my office at the ready, fully loaded and waiting for the next wave. Watch out, cone heads. They also sent along more seeds for my front yard (see gallery below). The package for the zombie-zapping peashooter says that it requires 100 energy points. It's a good thing that they also included a package of energy-boosting sunflower seeds. I think I've got enough to hold them off for awhile now. Thanks, PopCap http://www.destructoid.com/elephant/photo-m.phtml?photo_key=96013&post_key=133391#prevnext
dwarf Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Won't be impressed until it grows that head and starts shooting stuff at intruders. I may have to get Steam if this is as good as everyone says. I do love a bit of tower defense, similar to golf in the way you can relax and watch it.
Domstercool Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 This is a god damn brilliant game! Everyone should play it, it's simply FUN with a capital FUN
