Cookyman Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Dunno if you guys have checked this out yet but it looks pretty cool and is from the Pure developers Black Rock. Could give Burnout a run for it's money. Click here for -> The greatest race in television history - Split Second Looking good!
Guest Jordan Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Put it this way. Pure was fucking awesome. Non-stop awesome. I hope this can be a 'true' sequel to Burnout Revenge.
ViPeR Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I love Pure, doesn't get the recognition it deserves. I wasn't too keen on Burnout Paradise. I just wanted to have a list of races to jump into, not drive around a city and stopping at traffic lights.
Deathjam Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 WOW, that looked bloody awesome. I love burnout, but damn, this games graphics look even better surprisingly.
Cube Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Looks interesting. Triggering obstacles sounds like it could be fun (as does avoiding them). Although I'm put off by the mention of Pure.
Shorty Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Looks interesting. Triggering obstacles sounds like it could be fun (as does avoiding them). Although I'm put off by the mention of Pure. ...Pure was a fantastic game. Like SSX on ATVs.
flameboy Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Looks awesome...I love Burnout Paradise so much that I have actually struggled to get into any other racers since. This could perhaps be the one that does it, as it clearly offers something different and new.
Domstercool Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Looks pretty cool, and while I did get a little burnout vibe from it, I don't think it is actually aiming for that game. It feels more like a racer with booby traps than ramming cars into traffic and what not.
Deathjam Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Its CG right now. Given how Burnout is 60 fps and beautiful its hard for other racers to measure up. Well dont I feel stupid.
dwarf Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-09-split-second/49795 Hmmm, looks gimmicky to me but I'll reserve judgement.
flameboy Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-09-split-second/49795Hmmm, looks gimmicky to me but I'll reserve judgement. See I watched it and thought it looked awesome
dwarf Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Graphics are good but I wasn't convinced it will be any good.
flameboy Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Graphics are good but I wasn't convinced it will be any good. See I think it offers something new and different. I havn't bought a racing game since Burnout Paradise as nothing remotely interests me...I've always been more into my arcadey racers that true sims so glad that this seems to be bringing something new to the table.
dwarf Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I really like kart games, but all in all I'm not really a racer fan. Gran Turismo 3 I played a lot, I played a couple of rally games on the PC with a wheel, I S-Ranked Excite Truck, but I don't like this sort of style racer. I'm just not a fan of Burnout/NFS/Ridge Racer so probably won't be convinced with this. Basically I like kart games or simulators, not what you get inbetween. Although the Grid demo was OK I thought.
ViPeR Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 It looks awesome but i'm worried it might become a bit stale. Depending on how many 'events' there are in each race the player will become accustomed to where they are. I'm just wondering how quick it will get to the point where no one gets affected by the events because they're too predictable. I guess the human element is where it gets its longevity as you're not going to know when someone decides they want to activate a bomb. I can see a lot of people just activating everything in the race instead of leaving some and actually having a bit of a surprise when something doesn't go off. We'll see.
dwarf Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I think the events will mean people will have to go out of their way to avoid them, thus losing time. I see what you're saying though, the events will become readable, just depends how they will be implemented. You might have more choice than just when you want to activate the event.
Cookyman Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 Hmmm still liking the look of this - might tide me over until GT5 eventually comes out.
Ten10 Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) Between this and blur, Splitsecond is the one that I'm watching the most. Downloaded the demo seemed pretty fun. Will try out Blur next to see which one is worth getting. Split second reminds me a lot of burnout but it's not a bad game. Sense of speed however wasn't reflected very well in the demo. Cube Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Has anyone else played the demo? Even though it has no multiplayer, I prefer it a lot to Blur - the handling and controls are just my style. The explosions and set-pieces are also much better than I expected. I was expecting a few simple things on each course, but the demo has three huge course-altering explosions, a few other large explosions and loads of little ones so you always have something to be wary of/look forward to.
Dyson Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Me too, this seemed right up my alley. I worry that it might get a bit stale after a while, though. That's my only concern with this game.
CoolFunkMan Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 (edited) I actually got this through the post today and I'm amazed at how early it arrived! Me and my girlfriend have just got round to playing it. It's great fun, even if it's difficult at times, as it's easy to lose your place if you're not careful. I like the way it's presented in the form of a TV show too, it's certainly an interesting concept! It does feel a lot like Burnout though, but then is that a bad thing? I'd easily recommend it! Dyson Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Yeah it's awesome Got my free copy through (I'll stop emphasising this soon, let me have my moment! ) on Thursday and have played through 3 episodes so far. It's great, the only issue being the rubber band AI. Aside from that it's brilliant, I love opening a shortcut only to see "DOUBLE WRECK!" appear on your screen as two racers try and get through riiight as it closes. So satisfying
Dyson Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Beat the game yesterday and loved it. I love how the game managed to keep my attention right to the finale despite the rubber-banding flaws. I thoroughly enjoyed the single player campaign, and the multiplayer is just as good (if not better). I look forward to the inevitable sequel after that final cut scene!
