Paj!

I hate that some people think weed is as bad as heroin.

That would be uite cool, but id like to play with friends because i can be a bad loser sometimes.

I'm confused. You would be playing with your friends, unless you wanted to play with other people?

You pay a deposit of 50p, or around about there. They give you the game, and you play it with your mates. When you're done, you give it back.

I'm also surprised at the fact that nobody has mentioned the fact that you can get live music at pubs or clubs. Pubs aren't just about someplace to get drunk. You can chat, listen to live music, watch live sport on the telly (great if you can't afford sky sports, which I can't), enjoy a roast dinner on sundays (or eat other food for that matter) and meet new people. There's something for everyone, if you can find the right place.

A lot of places even offer Wi-Fi services, so you can surf the internet, or play something online there. I've been to a pub, and played Mario Kart online during half time whilst watching the footie. It is an absolutely huge misconception that you need to be able to drink to go to a pub and have a good time. This is just simply not true.

There's a club in London (Ghetto, Old Street) that has Super Mario Kart :)

We had a pub...sorta place (actually, maybe it was a bar, it was a strange place) back in Newport, which sometimes had an Xbox360 hooked up to the big telly. Me and a mate played Gears of War (I think it was) the one time, and that was pretty fun.

It was quite funny seeing how rubbish people were at it, and they didn't even appear enebriated

What an interesting thread, seems to have gone all over the place and covered lots of ground!

Original point, the annoying girl and her views. Well, I probably share Paj's views, BUT I feel the two of you are probably just as bad as each other! Neither seems to acceptant of the other's views! I know there ARE people who don't like drugs, or even drink, but all I ask from such people is their reasons for why. I'll glady give me reasons why I like it, and why I may disagree with their point of view, though I wouldn't hate someone for their views, nor push drinking on them(and I won't not drink around someone who doesn't like it just for them, except maybe in exceptional circumstances). Which reminds me, does bluey not drink? And are people thinking that people are actually just gonna get absolutely trashed at the N-E meet? Cos that's not really so fun. Drinking in moderation, kids! Why DOES the girl have such an issue with drugs, did you ever stop and ask her, Paj? Anyway, about drugs...

Took the words out of my mouth.

I personally agree with her - you shouldn' take drugs, as they have a very, very strong correlation with fucking people up. I do believe, however, that if you want to take them, you shouldn't be stopped. Discouraged, but not prevented (ie like cigarettes).

I do disagree with stuff like this though. Maybe it's because I'm rather aware of the major flaws that can come in experiemental designs and analysis and findings, and fickle it all can be(as I'm sure fish is aware of too, at least in part). I rarely take 'statisical' evidence at face value these days.

As for the whole drugs thing, I dunno. Weed CAN be pretty devastating in some cases, but on the whole it's obviously nowhere near as bad as heroin on average. Like, heroin fucks up more people than weed does, from what I've been led to believe. I think there should be a definite distinction between trying something/experiementation, and being a regular user, also.

Back to drinking/related establishments though! I don't get how people can dislike pubs, a brilliant place to go chill and chat with your mates, and have a few bevvies if you like also. I love pubs in summer! Never played much games though, Jenga in a pub one was probably the only time. Funny though, whole pub had eyes on us lol. I know some people may not wish to have a few bevvies(and that's fine too), but it goes back to the drugs thing, I don't think you can fully and wholely condone something until you've tried it and had full experience of it, to do so would annoy me immensely if you put total conviction in your views being right and fact rather than personal opinion, and I think that's probably why Paj was so annoyed with this girl.

Well, I think it's about time I give my five cents, having followed this for a while.

Paj, while she does indeed seem annoying from your view, I'm afraid that you are equally annoying. You don't seem to realise that you are as stubborn in your ideas as her. :heh:

About the going out/drinking/pubbing etc., I've never been much of a party-goer myself. Recently I've begun going out more, even started to drink - though not really to get drunk, just for the socialising aspect of it. And that's simply because I've gotten some amazing friends that I go out with. I wouldn't go partying if it wasn't for them, and I'm bored as fuck when I'm out and not in the company of good friends.

Anyone who goes out purely to get drunk dont deserve the right to do it.

It causes too many problems.

It annoys me when people find out that I drink at home and say;

"You drink at home? What's the point in that?"

Because I'm not some cretin and can actually enjoy a good drink without having to get "wasted mate".

What? Where's your logic/reasoning in that one? I often go out to get drunk, does that mean I don't deserve the right? If I wasn't drinking alcohol for drunkness, I wouldn't be drinking it at all(well, maybe for the taste of some too).

So you go out just to get smashed, not to socialize, not to meet new people, not to have a good time.. Just to get smashed?

Then i think you dont deserve the right to, no...

Ahh, that's the problem, now you're saying smashed when all you said before was drunk! For me, drunk is a blanket term which basically means to be under the influence of alcohol, beyond that there's all sorts such as tipsy, pissed, smashed, wasted, off me nut, etc etc and even then some of those terms are subjective. I thought you just generally meant people who get themselves under any sort of influence.

Even then, if you dont go out to socialise and just get drunk. I still dont believe you should be going out.

Getting drunk without any socialising is a sad experience, no? But most people tend to socialise a lot easier when they're under the influence of alcohol.

Thats true, but not what im getting at.

I mean i dont think its right when people just go out to drink, and then not socialise.

Its perfectly fine if they use it to boost confidence.

So you mean like what, going out by yourself to the pub to have a few pints and sit in silence, or what?

Ok, fun fact; if you are looking to just get drunk then you are going to do it at home, alone. I do not believe that anyone actually goes out simply to get pissed. The only reason to get pissed out of doors is to interact with society, albeit in an unsober manner.

Bring Risk to the meet :P I'd love to actually play the game!

Weird thing, I was just thinking/typing about Diplomacy and just couldn't remember what it was called. Mini lol.

Yes indeed. I can't stand peer pressure. If I enjoy a beer, I'll have it when I fancy it, not when other people think I should have it.

There's no reason why you couldn't just get to know people while drinking soft drinks.

Yes, people go out to socialise. But please do not kid yourself on this one - getting drunk is the main reason people drink a lot of types of alcohol. As for wine, that is a different matter.

Yeah, to be fair, the only reason I drink is because I love getting just a little bit trollied when I'm out with some awesome mates. Take the mates out of the equation, and I wouldn't drink because I don't really see the point (Unless like you say, it's a glass of wine or something).

The effect of the alcohol in the context is the essential part. Being lightly (or not so lightly) drunk while having fun with friends increases the feeling of fun. Likewise it loosens up the mood and makes one more talkative and makes it easier to socialise. If you're drinking by yourself, you're more likely to get sad and somber and feel lonely.

Alcohol simply enhances your feelings, so the context is important. You don't just drink to get drunk, you drink to get drunk in the situation - if that makes sense ...

I don't drink to get trollied as it were, i drink what i can manage in a night. This can vary from 4 pints to 25 pints without getting legless. Last 25 pint session was New Years last year, wasn't trollied but staggered a little and could speak clearly.

I only have say 1 beer if i am alone with no-one out then i tend to go home.

Danny, i see where you are coming from. One of my mates drinks to enhance the pleasure feelings he has, but most of the time comes back down to Earth with the miserable feelings which follows on afterwards and he goes off for a cry somewhere. I drink with mates, become more sociable than before and really enjoy myself even on the way home after the night of fun.

After Saturday night I have sworn myself off alcohol.

Until Friday night when I intend on getting leathered to forget about Saturday night.

Yes, so like I stated, people drink to become drunk. Being drunk, even lightly, then enables them to loosen up and socialise more easily.
