dazzybee Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 If the game could work in any environment that would be amazing!! It's a good show off piece though, and if the tech DOES work, it opens up a lot of opportunities with other games!
Sheikah Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Well it really is down to preference, as I loved slashing with the wiimote in Zelda, I love racing with the wheel in Mario Kart (though I do use a GC pad in Brawl ) Love it you might, but anyone who's really good at the game doesn't use the Wii Wheel and I can always fairly easily beat anyone using it. I've played so many games and that's just about always been the outcome. Really the Wii Wheel is just a bit of short novelty fun before you switch to the nunchuck or gamecube pad (if you want to be a better player), yet again demonstrating how the motion controls are often unnecessary.

I play games to have fun, and the wii wheel makes it more fun. PLaying games to be the best at it? Did you use to use auto fire joypads for shoot em ups? Use the awful juggling techniques in dodgy beat em ups? It's all about having a good time PS Bring it on, me with my wheel, you with your nunchuk!!

I always found that a big piece of bull, I don't see why the Wii Wheel would automatically be worse than a normal pad, it works perfectly after you get used to it, I can control everything with the precision I want and I've beaten may people who use the GC controller. Of course this wouldn't apply to a driving sim, but in that case, steering wheel is the only correct answer anyway. And for example in DBZ BT3, the wii controls are less effective, but much much more interesting in fun, I'll take them everyday over classic controls. For Guilty Gear, Naruto and Brawl, classic controls any day. To be honest the PS3 and 360 are holding each others software back, companies have to develope games for two very different systems, meaning neither of the systems strengths are exploited and we are left with games which are down-graded to suffice both systems weakneses. There would still be competition in the software market to make the best product, infact there'd be more as there'd be less developement costs, better tech, bigger market etc. I don't think the industry can last much longer with 2 HD systems, at least I'd rather next gen either Sony or Microsoft drop out. I think what Nintendo do is fine as another console with a different market but for the HD hardcore gaming type experience thing there is no need for two consoles. True. This is more the case for PS3 I think, even if I don't buy the exaggerations Sony make about the hardware, developing for both consoles doesn't let hardware to be used efficiently. I also think a 2 console market would be the ideal.

I think what Nintendo do is fine as another console with a different market but for the HD hardcore gaming type experience thing there is no need for two consoles. This is true... and this is the main reason why I usually get undecided about what console to back and main. I usually come back to wii for the characters . I will admit, the HD stuff can sucker punch me in at times to think a game is better than it actually is... I bought Gran turismo 5 Prologue because of this... But behind the beautiful car showcases and photo realism, within a few hours, I was quickly unentertained by the fact I was playing Gran Turismo 2, 3, 4 with nothing really tweaked apart from visuals and online play. I guess in the end, you can only innovate so much...But as much as I currently sort of despise Nintendo right now, I know full well as soon as Zelda Wii, Pikmin Wii and others come out, Nintendo would be my prime choice.
Sheikah Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I always found that a big piece of bull, I don't see why the Wii Wheel would automatically be worse than a normal pad, it works perfectly after you get used to it, I can control everything with the precision I want and I've beaten may people who use the GC controller. For Guilty Gear, Naruto and Brawl, classic controls any day. I'm sorry, but this is bollocks. I can say this from having played a ridiculous number of hours of Mario Kart Wii. Of course you'll beat some people who have the GC controller, as most people playing MK aren't very good. But when I or my friend gets beat, it's never by a person with the Wii Wheel. The Wii Wheel gives far less precision than using a gamecube pad or nunchuck and that is why anyone who's actually quite good at the game isn't using it. From the god knows how many hours I have played this game I can say that with complete honesty. You can't argue with my observations. @dazzybee, you sound like the kind of person who picks up a controller and doesn't care about the outcome because it's all a bit of a laugh at the end of the day. Let's face it, a lot of us do like to win at games and that's what makes it far more enjoyable for us. If I found that a certain controller was much easier to apply skill with (and no, I'm not talking about turbo options) then I could only think it common sense to use it.
Jonnas Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Aye, exclusives is what made me choose the Gamecube in the first place (and now the Wii). As I said, 3rd parties are unreliable *stares at Namco* As for the "fun" factor, I have to agree as well. I never thought I would have this much fun with Wii Sports, mainly because I never like sports games to begin with. But I'm loving Golf and Tennis (and even Baseball. And I don't know the rules!) The same thing for Mario&Sonic @ Olympics (which I briefly tried). That was the best surprise I've had in recent memory, and what pushed me to buy it. I also tried Mario Kart, for a brief period of time. But it was so brief, I didn't quite get used to the controls. I could probably enjoy it more than Double Dash, though.
Daft Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Recently Sony probably have the strongest first party games. WipeOut HD Resistance 2 MotorStorm 2 KillZone 2 God of War Project Siren Buzz SingStar Gran Turismo Microsoft, although I don't think as extensive as last year, had a strong line-up.
Caris Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Yeah sorry MCJ but Sony's first party line up is much better than Ninty's.
McPhee Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I don't think the industry can last much longer with 2 HD systems, at least I'd rather next gen either Sony or Microsoft drop out. I think what Nintendo do is fine as another console with a different market but for the HD hardcore gaming type experience thing there is no need for two consoles. Porting between the PS3 and 360 isn't all that costly, not compared to making a whole new version of a game for Wii. The problem is that there are 3 (maybe 4) different hardware levels in the games market at the moment. You have the PC, 360 and PS3, the Wii and PS2 and finally the DS. The PSP is a wild card and card, it either takes PS2 ports or becomes a 4th hardware level. If a publisher wants a game on all platforms then they have to create 3 (or 4) different versions of the game. The only way this will rectify itself is if all three manufacturers launch similar platforms and Nintendo kill the Wii off quickly when their next system launches (otherwise developers will carry on making games for it, adding another hardware tier.) As for who could pull out? It could only really be Sony. Microsoft's plans for the Xbox platform are as much about online services as they are about games. At the moment iTunes is the biggest online entertainment store, but Apple have one majour weakness. They can't seem to sell Apple TV, they are struggling to get iTunes in to people's living rooms. It's no secret that Microsoft want a slice of that pie, they've been trying to muscle in on that market for the past few years. Truth is, they can't beat Apple in the music area. Where they can win is with online movie rental and IPTV. The Xbox is already in people's living rooms and is ready for these services. If they pulled out of the games console market they'd lose the advantage they have over Apple in this area, it's far too lucrative to pass up. AFAIK Sony have no such plans. The PS3 has done it's job of launching Blu-Ray and they are too far behind the biggest names in the DD market to even consider catching up (BSkyB, Apple, Microsoft, BT, AT&T among others). If the PS3 flopped really badly then they could possibly pull out of the games market (though very unlikely).
Shino Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I really like the PSeye too, but I don't think it will come as a standard in Sony consoles. In fact, if Sony or Microsoft learned anything this gen is not to make expensive stuff. As for games, I'll just wait for devs to make the smart choice and develop mainly for the Wii, which I think its what we'll see in E3.

I know you probably meant future references but you can't know this until they come out but don't you think you're grasping for straws when you put singstar, buzz in there? and what makes everyone think killzone 2 will be so good? the first one was awful Yeah sorry MCJ but Sony's first party line up is much better than Ninty's. Basd on games that aren't out yet:) I guess anything is possible.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is out. Grasping for straws? Why? Buzz and SingStar are both great games. Buzz came out this year and has content added to it all the time. Singstar is continually supported. The library has grown so much this year along with the ability to use PS2 discs. I added KillZone 2 because it's out in February which is pretty close and for what I've heard from everyone one on the beta, people I know not websites, at least the multiplayer is going to be amazing.
jammy2211 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 To be fair he didn't include Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, LittleBigPlanet, Socom which are all better then any of Nintendo's Christmas offerings...

Are you speaking generally, or recently? I mean generally no one comes close to Nintendo, surely you agree? Recently, well 3 of them aren't out yet; Wipeout is amazing but it's just old wipeout in HD? Though throw LBP in there and it gets interesting?

Jonnas Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Wether one line-up is better than the other one is highly subjective. -Gran Turismo bores me; -I highly doubt Wipeout will be able to surpass F-Zero GX (once again, subjective because several people don't have/can't find GX); -FPSes don't work for me, unless it's Timesplitters or Metroid Prime (and I'm having doubts about MP3). Among other things. But that's probably a good thing. At least (s)he who likes a certain type of games can get the right console for him/her.

Recently, well 3 of them aren't out yet; Wipeout is amazing but it's just old wipeout in HD? Though throw LBP in there and it gets interesting? I mean recently. Up until last year I was a rampant Nintendo fan but I feel things started to slip. Now if you ask me if the current trend, where I see both Sony and Microsoft having more than enough first party games being better or at least equal to Nintendo's effort, carrying on then I would say it would. About Wipeout, that list isn't focus on innovation. It is just first party games. I love WipeOut but then it's the first one I've played (I love my music in Zone Mode ). Forgot about LBP. Wether one line-up is better than the other one is highly subjective. I was just listing the first party games that come to mind. Personally I think GT5 is pretty dull, it's just not my thing likewise Project Siren. Both great games but not for me.
dazzybee Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I had both Wipeouts on the PS1, loved 2097. I love Wipeout HD too! Amazing game! I think 2009 is going to be a great year; I'm hoping Nintendo pull it out of the bag with their releases, I expect them too - Punch Out, Pikmin and more! I think PS3 will have better exclusives then 360 too!
dwarf Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Punchout Pikmin and more!? Your excited about 2 games for next year and think Nintendo can pull it out of the bag? No chance! (subjective obviously) There is so much more stuff to get excited about next year for Sony and Microsoft. for PS3: Gran Turismo 5 Tekken 6 Killzone 2 (which I already know will be awesome cause I played the beta) rachet and clank future 2 God of War 3 Resident Evil 5 Infamous MAG Yakuza 3 Heavy Rain (Timesplitters 4 ) Shame most of them are sequels, but that isn't the point.
Cube Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 You know...a new Pikmin sounds much better than that whole list put together (with the exception of Heavy Rain...I hope it doesn't go the way of Liar and Haze). Edit: However, if you added Bioshock 2 then nothing stands a chance. Unless they completely fuck it up.
Sheikah Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 You know...a new Pikmin sounds much better than that whole list put together Yeah...in opposite land.

Well no, my point was that I expect Nintendo to unveil more. Remember Nintendo do things differently, we know what we're playing from MS and Sony next year, Nintendo will surprise us, hopefully pleasantly But GT5, R&C2 and MAG couldn't bore me anymore. Excited about RE5 though, the others are looking good. But Pikmin 3 and Punch Out excite me way more yeah, and Wii Sports 2 come to that! But I'm expecting a few of new IP's/Excite Truck 2/Galaxy 2/Kid Icarus/Star Fox/F Zero....
Cube Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Yeah...in opposite land. It may be a little bias due to quite a few requiring me to use a controller that I can't use for more than 5 minutes.
