Choze Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=204432 No price yet. Hopefully it looks better than the arcade versions. Sega has officially announced the first details for Outrun Online Arcade - news of which originally leaked out last month. The new title is in development at the Sheffield-based Sumo Digital and, along with new high-res visuals, will allow six mental racers to go sideways in online bouts. Visually, it looks like the Xbox game, Coast2Coast all rezzed up. Check out the trailer above (thanks to GamerSyde). Both versions, Sega strangely specifies, will support voice chat and Achievements/trophies, while the PSN version will - seeming exclusively - also boast leaderboards. Why there won't be leaderboards in the 360 version is anyone's guess. It'll hit both PSN and XBLA in "early 2009", says Sega, although it's yet to name a price. Should be frickin' brilliant.
Hero-of-Time Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Heres a trailer from Gaf. Trailer (low res only): http://www.gamersyde.com/news_7414_en.html
Cube Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Depending on how good the controls feel, I'll probably get this.
MATtheHAT Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Nice one. Sumo Digital did an excellent job porting Gti Club to the PSN. So this should be good.
Deathjam Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Whats the big fuss <-- never played an outrun game..
Daft Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Strange how the PSN version is getting leader boards and the XBL version isn't. PSN for me. Whats the big fuss <-- never played an outrun game.. It's just fun, fast and easy.
Guest Jordan Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I played Outrun 2006 Coast2Coast in a full sized arcade cabinet in Blackpool... One of the greatest gaming moments of my life . Can't wait for this.
dwarf Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I've never played it so I'm probably mistaken, but itlooks as if you can get better Flash racing games than that. Is there more to the constant drift gameplay?
Guest Jordan Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Alternative routes, awesome music, beating the level is actually pretty hard on the easiest settings... Bare in mind the original did come out in the early 90's and just like Ridge Racer hasn't really ever changed.
S.C.G Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 So basically this is Outrun 2006 but as an Arcade game... complete with upgraded visuals, achievements AND online multiplayer? if so I'm all in, I damn well loved that game it was the sole reason I ended up buying an original Xbox. ^^
Aimless Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Strange how the PSN version is getting leader boards and the XBL version isn't. PSN for me. One of the Sumo team post on another forum I frequent, and the XBLA version definitely has leaderboards. (I'm pretty sure it's one of Microsoft's requirements anyway.)
S.C.G Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I just checked on the BC list for Xbox games, apparently Outrun 2006 was recently added, I played the original to death when I got my first Xbox, but I purchased the sequel when the 360 came out (got it really cheap sealed) 'cept it wasn't compatible then but now it is, just unsealed it and am gonna give it a quick blast now. ^^
Daft Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 One of the Sumo team post on another forum I frequent, and the XBLA version definitely has leaderboards. (I'm pretty sure it's one of Microsoft's requirements anyway.) Good. I thought it was a bit weird.
S.C.G Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I played Outrun 2006 last night briefly and while visually it doesn't quite look as impressive as it did a few years back, after one run on it that truly didn't matter as everything about the gameplay is just so simple, fun, enjoyable but above all the controls just feel right. Great game. ^^
Columnar Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Amazing news - LOVE OutRun 2 on the Xbox and the original Arcade version (that you could play in Shenmue II on the DC) so its a definite Live purchase for me. Can't wait.
Hero-of-Time Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 This song alone shows how awesome OutRun is!
Dog-amoto Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 It's not the same without the arcade cabinet My mate has a stand up one, but it's not the same
Guest Jordan Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 And this is the Outrun arcade i've been to:
Dante Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Strange how the PSN version is getting leader boards and the XBL version isn't. PSN for me. It's just fun, fast and easy. I dont remember OutRun being easy on the sega mega drive.
Daft Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I dont remember OutRun being easy on the sega mega drive. I meant more easy as in enjoyable. It's definitely not easy.
Grazza Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 (Looks at Donkeys' picture) And there was me thinking I'd played the full-size one! I love OutRun 2006: Coast to Coast. To me, it's the most enjoyable racing game ever: best graphics, best music, best controls. It's the reason I bought an Xbox a couple of years ago.
