No price yet. Hopefully it looks better than the arcade versions.

Sega has officially announced the first details for Outrun Online Arcade - news of which originally leaked out last month.

The new title is in development at the Sheffield-based Sumo Digital and, along with new high-res visuals, will allow six mental racers to go sideways in online bouts.

Visually, it looks like the Xbox game, Coast2Coast all rezzed up. Check out the trailer above (thanks to GamerSyde).

Both versions, Sega strangely specifies, will support voice chat and Achievements/trophies, while the PSN version will - seeming exclusively - also boast leaderboards. Why there won't be leaderboards in the 360 version is anyone's guess.

It'll hit both PSN and XBLA in "early 2009", says Sega, although it's yet to name a price. Should be frickin' brilliant.

Strange how the PSN version is getting leader boards and the XBL version isn't. PSN for me.

Whats the big fuss <-- never played an outrun game..

It's just fun, fast and easy.

I played Outrun 2006 Coast2Coast in a full sized arcade cabinet in Blackpool... One of the greatest gaming moments of my life :D.

Can't wait for this.

I've never played it so I'm probably mistaken, but itlooks as if you can get better Flash racing games than that. Is there more to the constant drift gameplay?

Alternative routes, awesome music, beating the level is actually pretty hard on the easiest settings...

Bare in mind the original did come out in the early 90's and just like Ridge Racer hasn't really ever changed.

So basically this is Outrun 2006 but as an Arcade game... complete with upgraded visuals, achievements AND online multiplayer? if so I'm all in, I damn well loved that game it was the sole reason I ended up buying an original Xbox. ^^

One of the Sumo team post on another forum I frequent, and the XBLA version definitely has leaderboards. (I'm pretty sure it's one of Microsoft's requirements anyway.)

I just checked on the BC list for Xbox games, apparently Outrun 2006 was recently added, I played the original to death when I got my first Xbox, but I purchased the sequel when the 360 came out (got it really cheap sealed) 'cept it wasn't compatible then but now it is, just unsealed it and am gonna give it a quick blast now. ^^

Good. I thought it was a bit weird.

I played Outrun 2006 last night briefly and while visually it doesn't quite look as impressive as it did a few years back, after one run on it that truly didn't matter as everything about the gameplay is just so simple, fun, enjoyable but above all the controls just feel right. Great game. ^^

Amazing news - LOVE OutRun 2 on the Xbox and the original Arcade version (that you could play in Shenmue II on the DC) so its a definite Live purchase for me. Can't wait.

(Looks at Donkeys' picture) And there was me thinking I'd played the full-size one!

I love OutRun 2006: Coast to Coast. To me, it's the most enjoyable racing game ever: best graphics, best music, best controls. It's the reason I bought an Xbox a couple of years ago.
